Love the sounds of marching feet, and the drill commands as they're shouted out over the parade ground, left left left right left left right left right left. What a brilliant sight the Forces are in full ceremonial dress, the performance enhanced when march music is introduced.

An island is a seagoing nation We need another 10 surface combat ships, double the submarine force and at very minimum an amphibious flat deck assault ship More aeroplanes and consider other deployment options for 3Bde such as Osprey. Finally - the Bde far too small for the variety of tasks likely to encounter I'd like to see a new submarine with offensive cruise capability including nuclear and air to surface systems
@Tank Boi 2003 Yeah, thank goodness our newest aircraft Carriers are the most advanced and automated in the world, so they can actually function fine under their current levels. This should mean that with more recruits we can have them man another Carrier or many more Destroyers if needed, WHICH WE MOST CERTAINLY DO.
This's much great news. I wonder what's with the increase in recruits anyway!? If it's due to many people being made redundant, so people migh see the Royal Navy as a good alternative then all the better I guess. If this truly keeps up, then we might be able to have all our current and future ships at capacity after all. This's brilliant news for the Navy, Armed Forces and the nation as a whole.
Maybe, if there's such a big increase in numbers, the number of ships will also grow as well, because out tiny fleet of 6 destroyers and 13 frigates isn't really much

I contrast this to over 1700 of us ( boys training 1971 HMS Ganges ) while at the same time HMS Raleigh was doing the same thing and the subsequent run down and closure of that shore training establishment. (Man) power was never an issue then with so many more ships. I guess if it works and solves the problem at Dartmouth it has to be worthwhile.
Not to sound bitter but BRNC axed May intake because of Covid but took in ratings? May intake also included myself and now I've been pushed out of September intake too because of however they're selecting out of the all the applicants from both intakes. Been in this process for two years now, have already repeated the recruitment process (PJFT, medical etc) twice now as they expire after one year. Looks like I'll be doing the lot for a third time now, possibly have to do AIB again and will be completely unsurprising if they make me redo FATs as well which I probably can't pass for a second time given only 3 of us out of the 16 passed when I did it. Lovely treatment from the RN. Should've went Army or tried for Pilot in the RAF instead given how much potential career time they've burned for me.
Your experience seems really unfortunate but may I assure you that you will never regret joining the RN instead of the Army or RAF. A wonderful career lies ahead if you persevere. I literally travelled the world having been to 65 countries. I met so many wonderful people and saw so many marvellous places and experienced things and events in my 34 years of service that would never have been otherwise possible. The educational opportunities are second to none. You get paid handsomely to study and are guided and helped to achieve chartered qualifications that would take considerably longer as a civilian. I just wish that I had been allowed to have served longer. They changed the rules after I had to leave, aged just 50.
My eldest son has Asperger's but really wants to join the Royal, all he talks about is the Navy and the ships, he absolutely fanatical about the Navy, hes also very fit and can swim and wants to join the cadets once Covid 19 is over, however I don't know the Navy feels about people with Asperger's joining if they can at all.
@Rob Wilton Well this is a question we asked, as he's got older he has gotten a lot better as he's maturated, this is why we wanted to test the waters (excuse the pun) with cadets, it would be sad if he couldn't as I think he would be a great asset.
Aspergers is not an automatic no (Autism is). He will be assessed by the RN medical board on an individual basis. It's all about the 'severity' and the form the condition presents in each person. The Armed Forces Careers Office will have detailed guidelines for him.

Not sure you’re aware of this (forgive if you are) but Asperger’s is no longer a diagnosis. People (like me) are now known as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). One of the problems your Son may have is the likelihood of any one of the co-morbidities that go with ASD. I’m a Paramedic and have been for many years. 18 months ago, I suffered what I now know to be ‘autistic meltdown’. I was incapable or functioning and making any sort of meaningful decision. This tends to happen when the person is under psychological stress and in me, caused a significant sensory overload. Imagine that on a warship? My Son who’s 10, also has his heart set on RN (he wants to be a warfare officer on destroyers) but also has ADHD and ASD. I breaks my heart that he may never be able to join.
Thank foooooooook we have an Army because one of funniest thing I have ever seen is Royal Navy personnel ‘Marching’...........bless them for trying though. 😁
I was in the Andrew for 7 years and wanted to have a career service, however, I discovered the RN was just an officers club (on one ship the 13 officers onboard had the same living space as 160 ish crew) Cocktail parties where they tried to make the crew walk in the rain to go for scran in the rain( for'd messes to aft on a Leander ) that one didn't work ! Had two occasions where a new officer almost killed people (Fo'c'sle } because he didn't shut his trap and listen to advice. Actually the best officers and the worst came from the lower decks. The best because they knew what the attitudes were from the ratings and knew how to manage them and the worst because they knew all the nuances of life in the lower decks that make life bearable and would try to stop them. Anyway after 7 years the navy had had enough of me and me of them, I hope things have changed.
Please,,please,,please more of this put in front of our young uns and me myself having a little daughter will be trying my best to push her into the forces has this army which as protected myself and my family has been an honour to watch and never forgetting the ones which didn't make it ,,,I really do think our ARMY IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD YET THE PROUDEST AND STRONGEST I WOULD FEEL SAFE FOR MY DAUGHTER AND WOULD IN JOY THE FACT SHE'S SEEING THE WORLD
When I joined up in the early 80's I never witnessed so many bullies by length of service or rating and rank. Especially from the now captain of Portsmouth harbour. You know, yeeee heyyyyyyy.
Remember the ratings that got captured by the Iranian navy gunboats. One of them was Nicknamed ‘MR Bean’ I sincerely hope that you are getting more robust ratings and giving them better training In preparation for such events. Unfortunately too many times when you have let the cameras in the way the Navy comes Across look quite childish. The officers and to some degree the instructors feel like they have graduated from some corporate training course.
I just can't get a good jist as to what the royal navys goals are. just to exist? i know they do missions but it would be good to know what humanitarian missions, combat, patrol ect. don't want to join a group of nobodies.
Makes you wonder why initial training isn’t identical for all potential ranks, then the PO’s (Potential Officers) are selected from that intake. Given that JR’s (Junior Ranks) are already likely to meet the basic academic requirements for officer training, it seems like a really good way to bring some real diversity and talent into the future RN.
Shocking that in today's climate of restricted defence spending this huge landlocked gin palace has only just opened its doors to training ratings. I served 22 years in the RM and our officers were and still are trained in the same camp as recruits and dare I say in quality and leadership are a cut above those in blue. Keeping Dartmouth on the books is nothing but maintaining the 'them and us' system prevalent in the RN all the while cutting back on resources for other ranks. I left the forces in 2003 but even then many joked that RN officer levels were still on similar levels to what they were in the 70's, I'm guessing not much has changed.

It looks like they are marching in boots,why??,shoe's or slippers more suitable surely.Run from 1 end of boat to another in boots,poor things will get tired.Just a pongo's opinion.
If you want to grow stop peddling to the minority of the country and left wing shit..focus on getting the best for the job no matter what. No quotas or tokenism is a good start.
@@Derek-jp3fn Coud have done what Ihave and that is to buy a set of clippers and run over your head with either a No.3 or No.4. It gives a reasonable haircut and saves from total scruffyness. Also how is then that the recruits all have standard regulation hair.

According to the news yesterday you are not allowed to use words like manpower and man overboard not sure about manifold though.

@JGW 97 Definitely for the tanks. We lost soo many of our historic tank regiments during the last reductions to the armed forces.
