Thank you for watching!
Simon and Mark
Would love to see some more classic sudoku content like this please 😊
You are freaking amazing! This is a VERY difficult puzzle for the recreational SUDOKU solver. Thx for not only passing on the criteria to locating the X-wing but for the indepth treatment of all the subtle inferences. Your manner in presenting the material is geared towards showing the beauty of the challenge and doing so with zero ego. Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom.
hi lll.l””0”
This is the first puzzle presented on this channel that I solved entirely on my own.
For awhile I've watched these videos and always struggled to fully understand how an x-wing would help besides recognizing it in a puzzle, but seeing it used in a more 'simple' version seemed to help really clear up any misunderstandings I've had. Great video!
It's comforting to see progress in oneself. I actually saw the X Wing. It's nice to "finally get your head around it" as Simon put it. Thank you @ #crypticcracking
It took me 55 minutes to solve because I couldn't find the x-wing. Once I found it, the puzzle solved itself. Great puzzle. Thank you!
I already knew about X wings, but what makes this video so instructive is that it advises when and how to LOOK for X wings!
It took me a very long time to solve this puzzle and a lot of will power to resist the desire to watch the solve in order to get a clue. I knew there was something in the grid that I just wasn't seeing and then I finally spotted the X wing. Once that happened, it was smooth sailing to the end. What a great feeling to find the solution without any hints!
Simon, thank you for your thorough explanation of the value of X-wings. I finally get it! Love your patient gentle manner.
you probably dont give a damn but does anyone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I was dumb forgot my login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Bo Jacob instablaster =)
@Grayson Ruben Thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and im in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Grayson Ruben It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account :D
@Bo Jacob You are welcome xD
I had done some more pencil marking than you did when I spotted the x-wing. "I spotted an X-WING", alert the media! Because I had a few more pencil marks than you did, I was a flurry of resolving pencil marks. I had to slow down so I didn't make any mistakes. I took longer than you, but I really don't care about time, I just like finding the solution. I have developed a new appreciation for handcrafted puzzles. They are truly delightful. Let steam know I was looking forward to your new app. Great video, elegant puzzle, big fan.
I've watched 6 or 7 of the classic sudoku videos now. I suppose you've earned my subscription.
Thank you for this video. I saw the 2s in both of those columns, but didn't realize that was an X-wing until you went over it.
22:13 one of my first solves on the channel before watching the video
Same for me. :)
Really nice - thank you very much for showing this! Also the sound is perfect again.
Excellent thank you. I'm keen to improve my skills with these advanced techniques, please do more.
Solved it in 25min, I really liked the flow of this puzzle. I found the X-wing on 2's in rows Four and Eight that broke the puzzle for me. I never got stuck for to long so I enjoyed solving it even though it didn't have any kind of theme or fancy tricks.
I did it in 9 and a half minutes. With the sandwich sudoku app and with a lot of practice its getting better and better. Cant wait the new app😀
always took me an hour to do superfindish, as i did such a long rooted way of doing x wings, this helps so much, down to the 20 mins now
Thank you for showing us some of these "easier" puzzles for you guys. It is helping some of us learn. Thanks again!
It's quite straightforward. Took me 13:27 and solved it without using notations.
17:38 and feeling proud :)
This series is awesome! I'm firmilar with rubiks style puzzles but I've never really forrayed into sudoku before the x wing will be a very helpful tool! Cheers!
As someone new to sudoku I found this video very helpful. A clear explanation of an x-wing really helped.
This is excellent! Would you and Mark be willing to add 1 or 2 videos of this difficulty every month? It'll be great for those of us still learning the difficult tricks!
Most helpful! Thank you
Thanks very much. I'm getting a little better at the classic sudokus with your help.
Took me 17 minutes, but I played the video in the background so luckily I heard you talk about an X-wing because i was stuck haha
Instead of X-wing on twos, a simple slot machine on sevens eliminated a seven from R7C7 and R9C8, that made R7C7 a naked single of 5, R8C9 a naked single of 2 etc...
Yes, that was what I used too.
Interesting. I found the same elimination using a 2-string kite from the central box.
This was I approached this puzzle; but I used the finned X-wing technique (7's restricted in column 6 and column 8) instead to make the same elimination.
Not necessarily easier to spot than the X-wing on 2's, but I think it was 'available' earlier (the 5 into r7c7 was my fourth digit entered, roughly) and I was lucky enough to spot it.
Same
I love the videos! 16:22 one of the few rare solves I can complete for classic sudoku. This was a pretty smooth solve for me, and I did not get stuck for long periods of time during the solve. I found the X-wing relatively early (for me) and slowly made my way through the puzzle. The step by step videos are great and the logic is easy to follow. I've seen a lot of improvement in my solving ability and ability to locate the next steps for me to complete the solve.
Im aware I cannot solve the hard sudoku's yet but watching Simon and his tips and tricks is so very helpful to further my Sudoku knowledge! TY!! Major TY's!!
Thank you also for explaining your logic behind your moves. Your mind moves so fast I can't always seem to see how you got a number!
Very useful, my first true understanding and application of an Xwing, thanks
Hi! My first puzzle that I solved using the X-wing that I found and used myself. Nice! Thank you so much. Took me about 30 minutes.
This was also a lovely puzzle to do without notations. I solved basically all the areas in similar order, particularly box 3 and the impact it has going left and down. I had noticed the situation of the 7s that tended to be in alternate corners of various boxes. Then I found the X Wings of 2 which, in retrospect, had been visible from the get go. The moment the X Wing allows you to place a 2 in r9c4, the impact is considerable. Immediately, all the 7s are disambiguated. The 9 also becomes restricted to r8c8, which you failed to see until the very end, and accordingly you now have the 194 positioned in the middle column of box 9. The puzzle is done. Most enjoyable. I clocked about 16 minutes. I am no very fast at this game, but that was not so bad for me.
Thanks! Very helpful
This was very helpful. I tried the puzzle on my own 1st but got stuck because I did not see the X-wing. Thank you for pointing it out and why it was so powerful.
Hi,
I'm one of the new subscribers that you referred to in your video and I really did find that very useful indeed! I struggle a bit with the speed that you agile brain moves at, but that's just due to my old 68 years old!) brain not processing information as fast as it used to do!
This is why I've started watching your channel. I've been doing easy and intermediate puzzles and am keen to make some progress. Your channel is ideal. Thanks so much and keep up the excellent work.
Phil
I only just now figured out I have do do them all in one go; or my math vision just walks away. If I come back after a bit, I don't even know what to do. *facepalm*
Finished in 11:19, but to be fair I had seen comments saying there was an x-wing that broke the puzzle, so I spotted it very quickly.
9:19 for me, x-wing on the 2s got it done..
I'm still new to this channel and I love it. Although when attempting these puzzles often I find myself missing obvious placements because I forget something I just placed. Could you make a toggle on your web-app that colours the tile when you place a new number? So like: "Colour Follow: On/off *Colour Choice hidden when off, defaults to green when on*". I find it would really help stay organized and by using different colours you could even track your solve in stages in case you didn't catch a mistake early on and didn't know where to start looking. Keep up the good work and thanks for the great content!
5:41 for me after importing and building a candidate list. X-wings were indeed the key to breaking this one!
Managed to get a 19:31 finish! The trickiest bit was some logic on sevens in the bottom right corner where I found a pattern that removed two potential seven locations and left behind a single 5 in box 9.
Very good! It shows how Snyder notation makes spotting x-wings easier by not over-crowding the grid, and shows how finding rows or columns with only two candidates for a particular number, may lead to finding an x-wing.
Thanks Simon, I've seen you use X-Wing a few times but didn't really get it. This time I do, great video for a newbie like me :)
at 15:48 your xwing 2's you described very well actually rule out the top 2 in your 2:8 pair in column 1
This was a nice puzzle to do a tutorial on for those new to Sudoku.
I am slowly getting the hang of X-wings now, I understand their importance and how they work when you find one, the difficulty for me is spotting an X-wing in the first place. I do enjoy the colours on this software, it really does help visualise and remember the X-wing better.
Great, concise X-Wing explanation!👍
14:44 quickest yet. X wing on 2's unravelled this one.
Thank you very much! Ive always fully pencilled the harder puzzles but inevitably the sheer volume of numbers becomes overwhelming and hard to spot patterns. I much prefer this method.
Why Zed
One of my favourite things about their web applet is that I can combine position and candidate notation.
I found a 2-string kite on 7s in the central box that led to the 5 (naked single) in column 7. Simple from there.
I found the other x-wing on 2's much earlier (in rows 5 and 7) as soon as I placed the 3 in r7c3...
20:08, first time I was able to solve one of the puzzles here!
16:49 for me. The first x-wing I found by myself
Thanks this help me understand Xwings hopefully I can see them without help
Love your vlogs
20:27 took me a while to find the x-wing on 2s
Omg, I loved that thumbnail
37:57 but I got stuck and needed Simon's help to see the x-wing on 2s.
24:43, I am actually quite proud, despite it not being a super fast solve
8:02, spotted the X-wing on 2s almost immediately, got slower towards the end as always. The more numbers there are, the harder for me to spot the next digit.
26 minutes. Struggled a little just staring after filling in boxes 1 and 3 until about 22 minutes in. Then noticed the x-wing staring me in the face and it cracked from there.
took me 14 min, smooth
Dospermiona lekcja bratku specjalnie taktyka z dwójkami w 15 minucie
Got it in 30 minutes, no idea the logic i used but it worked!
I tried it in my own. I couldn’t find the x-wing. Next time I’ll make that ring in my head
Nice spot on the x wing
13 minutes!
But I've saw the topcomment before attempting to solve the puzzle, which definitely sped up the process quite a bit.
I've been going from the beginning with the videos, and decided to try this puzzle. I got stuck at the middle maybe. And i noticed i had a lot of digits in the cornes, which led me to phistomafel (not sure if its spelt correctly) ring. And i finished the puzzle with that, which ended up being the correct solution. But still a good puzzle!!
I know all about xwings and once Simon said there was an xwing on 2s I saw it and was able to finish the puzzle. I have no idea why I can't spot these on my own.
15:57
That took me 11:11. The time does line up nicely, doesn't it?
Haven't watched the video yet, but I solved it in 24 minutes. I got stuck for a very long time in the middle of the puzzle until I noticed a weird pattern on 7s in the bottom right four 3x3 squares that worked very much like a series of Y wings. Once I found that, it eliminated r7c7 as being a possible 7, and the puzzle collapsed.
I remember how I solved this puzzle because I did it over and did the same thing. It involves the same squares are the x-wing but I didn't use the x-wing, I used uniqueness to put a 6 in c3r8. I saw the 2 and 5 and used uniqueness.
18:30 I'm glad I coud spot the X wing but not so early though
My first successful discovery and application of an X-wing - hooray!
13:25 by simple logic: didn't need an x-wing or anything clever, just worked through the numbers from 1 to 9 in ascending order pencil-marking where necessary and it broke when the 8s allowed me to clear the 7s then the 4s.
I am brand new to this, I find it helpful to go from Nine to One, not so much help going the other way.
16:53, and I actually spotted an x-wing! Now to see how you did it... Edit: LoL, I found an X-wing in 2s, but it was in the rows, not the columns!
Are there some standard sudoku puzzles that require more pencil marks than just Snyder notation? I did a puzzle today that required *me* to fill in all of the options in a row before seeing a single. Now I can’t help but wonder if there was something that I missed that would’ve let me solve it sticking with only Snyder notation.
23:39 It's first time i spotted x-wing and it resolved a sudoku, many times i found them but coudn't do anything with it.
I hear that weird twang/noise sound in the background when you talk again :(
Interesting... I solved from the bottom up and found an X-wing on twos for row five an seven, column one and eight, which broke the puzzle for me. Perhaps something to note?
Didn't spot those twos, but cracked it with an empty rectangle on 2s in box 7, removing the same 2 as the X wing
Damn, I solved this in 10 minutes it felt really easy for some reason.
I am just starting at Sudoku...and having problems recognizing many of the techniques used...and how to approach puzzles. Can you do more of these??
they do videos like this nearly every day, take a look at the profile. The website to solve them is only in the more recent videos though.
Hey,
this comes really fast if u practice Sodokus :)
Lerning by doing
Damn it, why didn’t I see that x-wing.
Yep X wings on 2's but needed some 'centre' pencil marks to spot it
Maybe this time, the x-wing will stay in my brain...
Interesting puzzle. It was unnecessary, but I happened to spot an X-wing on 7s that eliminated a 7 from one cell, leading to a different finned X-wing on 7s, which made r7c7 a naked single, so that was fun.
Solved it using the 7's as well, didn't use the X-wing of two's shown in the video so for me it was pretty integral in beating the puzzle.
17:32 I know I need to find those X-wings faster than I do.
Could you make it so that we can put in our own sudokus in the website
there was also an x-wing on 2 in rows 5 and 7
Took me 20 minutes, got to start somewhere 😅
22:46. I'm actually really proud of myself for noticing the x-wing, it was less obvious than most are. I really feel like i'm improving!
My time is 44:02. It took me a while to notice the x-wing on 2s.
Seeing this reminded me to play this game. Not played it for years. I started working it out just in my head using my minds eye / imagination etc. Does anyone else do this? Just found myself doing it. Does anyone know an good sudoku on android or Apple? Thanks 😘
This is prolly my fastest solve so far on this channel...
will classic sudoku be available for ios ?
tone the moan
I assume it will, just like the sandwich sudoku app.
Nice haircut Simon
Don't thank those maple syrup chugging hosers, tell them to take off
