Thanks for the video. I was feeling terrible, and this video fixed that. I just needed to see regular people being regular. For my sanity. I feel sane again. Thanks.
Exactly my thoughts... u get hammered with glamorous Instagram mega buck builds and so nice to see real builds done by real people being brave and adventurous ❤
Hi, this is my camper, and I thought I would address all the concerns for my safety and the safety of others following me. This camper is actually very well built, structurally. For starters, there are absolutely no nails in the build, with the exception of the roofing material being applied. It has been built with screws, exclusively. It's been driven well over 20,000 mi, and is still as strong as when I built it. There have been many improvements, not the least of which to the suspension. I have added heavy duty load leveling shocks as well as an extra leaf on the springs, and I have purchased super springs that I plan to add soon. No part of the roof has ever tried to come off in all of those 20,000 plus miles that I have driven at highway speed. Although, it is true, I prefer small highways to the interstates, I have driven numerous miles on the interstate as well. To be honest, I can't park anywhere or drive anywhere that people don't pretty much throng me to get a picture or a closer look or both. There is angled flashing at both ends, on top of the shingles to secure then, and I used expensive composite shingles that I purchased for over 70% off from a roofing company and which are overlapped properly with angled flashing securely holding down both the front and the back as well as the top. Everything is held together very well and supported properly. As to the legality of it, the only thing I've ever gotten from police, is them stopping to take a picture or giving me a thumbs up. I'm not sure what states those of you who are claiming special knowledge on whether or not this is road legal are from or how much actual expertise you have in the laws, but that is the only reaction I have ever gotten from any law enforcement personnel in any state. It takes the wind beautifully, and the steeply peaked roof not only gives the room to stand upright and feel comfortable inside, but it splits the wind on the outside and allows me to move down the road with better gas mileage than I got pulling my trailer or I would have gotten with a standard cabover camper, which is like a huge solid wall hitting the wind. There have been many upgrades since this video was shot a year ago, and I love my little home. I've sold my travel trailer and am living it exclusively now. Safe travels and I will see you down the road!
Again, I'm happy that HOWA is my charity of choice. I love to see my contributions at work. Every time I hear someone complaining about the unhoused problem, I tell them about HOWA. People doing what they can to help themselves.
@@user-pi5lx8dm6k Enough to overload the suspension, wheel bearings, frame, brakes, steering, tires etc. The truck is in pain. Look how the rear suspension is sunk and front suspension is in the air. My guess is 4000 lbs as is. The truck's payload is ~1500 lbs.
I love creative builds. Look how much you can live with. Going tiny doesn’t mean you have to deprive yourself. She looks comfortable and happy! Nicely done!!
This is so awesome. My name is michele and I’m retiring next year and I am building my van out right now. So so fun. God bless. Love you, Bob. You’ve taught me a lot over the years.
I’m so impressed with her resourcefulness. She built a tiny home on her truck and it works great. She’s living her life and even has a fishing pole! I wish I could do the same! So awesome!
Michelle is just doing life her way. She says friends say she should decorate. Honestly, I can't imagine myself walking into someone's home and saying such a thing. Michelle is busy thinking things through so that her life works for her. She has a good attitude and is creative in her approach to her own personal challenges and needs. She knows what's really important in life and surrounds herself with those things. That is how she decorates her life. Others think to do that with knickknacks and tchotchkes. Where's the adventure in that?
The Rambling Cottage! What a great name! She is awesome to just do it even without experience. Most people would not. What an awesome woman! She's a great problem solver. I love the treasure chest of tea, hehehe. So many brilliant things in this build. I love her magnetic TV, That is so brilliant. It would work for me too when typing out a lot, answering emails, replies in my online groups etc, when I want to use an external keyboard. Good on her for figuring out how to attach and set up the back seats! I took the back seats out of my SUV and wanted to do that just for seating in my house at the moment, but it's tricky because they attach at different levels and orientations in the vehicle. She's got beautiful skin and hair. The baking soda and vinegar for the hair wash and rinse is way better than commercial products with all their toxic chemicals and carcinogenic fragrances.
She could paint Rambling Roses on her home. There is an actual type of rose that's called a "rambler". There's Tea Roses, Miniatures, Old Fashioned, Climbing and Ramblers, and I'm sure a few more since I was into roses.
@@MS-1917The weight capacity is in the owners manual which you can see online. There are Weight Stations semi trucks have to us we to be on the freeways. Autos are allowed to use it too. She has done a wonderful job on her build. I wish her the best of travels.
I tell you - the more single older women I see doing incredible things like this woman - the smaller and wimpier I feel. This kind of thing is shocking to me that she took it on and she’s conquered everything. Even with needing insulin - she’s taking the world and had it work for her and she has quite a beautiful life. Incredible.
💚What a creative solution, you are glowing with happiness. You are truly a pioneer woman to do your own build out. Penny is a lucky dog to be traveling with you.❤️
I very much liked her traveling house. And she Made it Herself! She has such get up and go! Michele, your doggie has a very smart owner. Hope to meet you down the road.
I think it's great that she's built her own home... But if I'm being honest, I don't want to be anywhere near it when it's going down the road. And I can't imagine she does not get harassed by Highway Patrol who want to see proof that it is safe to be on the road.
Likely an older seasoned lady with medical issues won’t be harassed by the po po. It’s not the image police want to have with the public. Work it sistah!
I was one of the other lucky winners back in October of last year to win Bluetti Solar System 😊 Thank you Bob and all the other people that was involved
As I tell you frequently, you’re amazing! So happy Bob did this video with you!! Glad I got to see a real tour! So glad you got the recent breakdowns repaired!!
She is a truly inspiring and interesting lady with what she has done in her life. I'm not surprised at all she accomplished something like this. Fantastic job lady!!!
I’m 51, single and watch CheapRVLiving almost exclusively as I plan how I will start my RV/tiny home on wheels life. I love this video. I wish there was a playlist on this channel just for newbies with no experience planning.
It depends on the vehicle platform you start with. The specifications are in the vehicle owners manual. That pickup looks like it is well balanced and not overloaded.
That is insane, is it legal in the US? At Freeways speed the roof could come off one of these days and I feel sorry for drivers behind her when that happens, this cant not be allowed on the highways, before she hurt some body badly.
@@Short4feeling wow u must be really on to it to beable draw such a strong opinion from this video...can u do the same with the lotto numbers for next week
awesome home! I wonder about the weight and its impact on the truck. What did adding the home do to the gas mileage, and how does it affect the drivability of the truck, is it more likely to bottom out on rough dirt roads?
Wishing Michelle all the best and safe travels. God bless her. This build is awesome. I'm sure people at HOWA brought up the weight and the height and other things. It's impressive she did all of this by herself. I like her tool draw. I wish to meet her someday.

I'm impressed that she did this build out by herself. She thought of everything and she seems happy which is the most important thing. Kudos to her!
I wonder what it weighs?
When you mention a dog, I always want to see the dog. You almost never show the dog. (whining)
Me too, very impressive 👍☺️
That truck is working itself to death pulling all that weight around and bucking all that wind up front
Safety is the most important thing. 🎉

So valuable for the community showing "down to earth" diy builds. Not just the glamorous Instagram builds... keeping it real❤

I met her at the HOWA event. She is a super lady and an inspiration to us all

Great job. If you look at a still shot at about 3:54 + it looks like a picture of Santa/ Bob is in a frame, it's really your mirror. 🙂🙂🙂
Please wear a helmet and be careful on the Ebike. Avoid being near traffic if possible. ❤❤❤
The best of luck to you, Michelle!
great job! Very ingenious!
You are a very impressive person! Amazing job on this! Happy trails!
The part that i like is that she built all of this. So, if anything has problems, she built it and can fix it without help. Do it.
So much credit to this lady for doing this build all by herself! Kudos!
Michelle is a delight. I wish everything good for her.
What a delightful lady living life, and not making excuses. The fact that she did the build by herself should be an inspiration to all of us.

I'm a retired finish carpenter and she's done a lot of basics everyone should know. Great work on her part.

I am thinking the same. Maybe she should get a vehicle specialist or someone knowledgeable about weight capacity and vehicles to inspect it.

I'm surprised that they let her go down the road because the DOT is very strict but hats off to her
It could be because it can be removed. Rules are different for truck caps
I'm all for DIY projects but I have to agree with you. It doesn't look road worthy. For her sake, and others, I hope I'm wrong.
I’m guessing it had to be reclassified as and RV. Curious
Yes. I don't understand the rules and also regarding insurance... curious not judging
How much dose this weight? Looks very heavy

INTERESTING, but... the weight and very fragile construction might be a disaster in the making? Hope it all holds up over time. All the best.

I don't see how she can get insurance to drive down the road with that unsafe build, not to mention the fire hazard it is.
The camper is not a licensed vehicle. Police should have nothing to say about it.
@larrydevenney1008 There are definitely regulations on how you secure a load on a truck.
