I love the ending after she is done singing. The audience is applauding but is Lea smiling and bowing, accepting the accolades--NO. She is still in character. A truly awesome performance from a master of her craft
usually in theatre performances they don’t smile or bow until the end of the show. basically, they don’t loose character until the end

and i think the only artist who won the Tony and Laurence Olivier in a year’s time....the producers from the original Miss Saigon will not open in America unless she does the lead for the opening and for a period of time...or until the world will witness the artist named Lea Salonga...my close friend was the 3rd Miss Saigon and “reliever”...even she said...even if her mouth is still locked in an acting kiss....and the actor was a bit behind...the voice is out...on cue with the orchestra..and for years...she has never witnessed her off key ..and having gone off on stage placement ...and sets the whole cast to keep up with her thoroughbred performance..she literally mouths in “talking” to anyone ..preserving her voice....trained at 9 years old in Repertory Philippines....the combination of the epitome of a stage mother, training, discipline and that amount of natural talent..(she knows her gift..hones it, embraced it fully with knowing humility)…she is a gift for the likes of us to look up to and aspire in essence

Her first starring role was in Miss Saigon and she absolutely owned that show. Nothing but success ever since.
She is one of my favorite Eponine’s. Love her version. My favorite musical, I’ll watch it any time I can.
Lea Salong was just 18 when she became famous worldwide, starring in the lead role of "Kim" when the musical MISS SAIGON premiered at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London UK, on Sept 20, 1989.

I’m surprised you haven’t come across Lea before, especially as you’re a fan of the theatre. She is the queen of Broadway & the west end and had played various characters in ‘les mis’ in productions at both. She was the first Asian to win a Tony award, for her leading role in ‘miss Saigon’ (Lea was the original miss saigon at only 18 yrs old). She is probably best known on the more mainstream music industry as a real life Disney princess & is the voice of Jasmin (Aladdin) & Milan on the Disney films. Yet another amazing singer from the Philippines (there must be something in the water!!how else would a relatively small nation produce so many good singers?).
She was all ready to train as a doctor & was ready for med school when she got the chance to audition for miss Saigon, needless to say she blew Cameron mackintosh outta the water despite her young age & the rest they say is history. Her brother Gerard is also extremely talented, he is an orchestra conductor & can often be seen leading the orchestra when lea is performing in concert or on TV ( I think I read somewhere that ‘his’ orchestra is based in Australia, something like the Sydney philharmonic ).
There is a really excellent & very moving video doing the rounds along with the one you’ve just seen of lea’s rendition of ‘don’t cry for me Argentina’ from the musical ‘Evita’ ( I shall try & locate it & send you the link)
My favorite song of her’s is “The Journey”. Hopefully not for a long time but when the time comes this is one of the songs to be played at my funeral.
She was by far the best Eponine. Her voice was perfect for it. I liked Ann Hathaway, but Lea Salonga's voice was made for theatrical performances.
Except that you’re mixing up characters. Ann Hathaway played Fantine not Eponine.
@@jeremyhelquist My mistake. Though Lea is still the best I've heard. I mix up those characters a lot, the names are so close. I don't remember the name of the actress who played Eponine. I only saw the movie once years ago.

Lea has a LOT of awesome performances on UA-cam that you can check out. I highly recommend searching UA-cam for Lea Salonga CNN Philippines (it’s about 44 min long). They interview Lea, her family, friends and colleagues. You learn a lot about her life and career. As for videos to react to, there are tons I could recommend! I’ll start with Still Hurting rehearsal (her actual performance is great but the rehearsal is SO amazing - no makeup, gorgeous), Lea and Regine Velasquez musical medley, Lea and Rachelle Ann Go MISS SAIGON 25th anniversary.
What a beautiful voice and magnificent performance! Les Miz is my favorite musical, and this is one of several songs in it that usually get to me. I misted up a little during that performance. She really portrayed the emotion.
Sorry, but how can anyone never have heard Lea Salonga? She's been active for years (originated the role of Kim in "Miss Saigon" at age 17--age when she was selected, 18 when show premiered). She received a Tony. She is absolutely amazing and now that you've heard her, please do some other songs by her.

I absolutely love her. She has one of the most beautiful voices. She was the singing voices of Jasmine and Mulan in the Disney movies. In the 25th Anniversary of Les Miserables she was Fantine. There is also a video out there of her singing "Don't Cry for me Argentina" that's great. You can't go wrong with any of her stuff.

In addition to her awards for Miss Saigon and other broadway shows, Lea Salonga provided the singing voices for two Disney princesses: Jasmin and Mulan. Because of her contributions, she was given the Disney Legends Award, a Disney Hall of Fame program in 2011. I think there is not a broadway fan that doesn't know who Lea is.
Me and my Mom were so fortunate to watch her in her concerts and Miss Saigon held in Philippines. Her voice will give you goosebumps during the whole concert and play.
I like this vid and the artist voice and performance is awesome! That last part of the song is so beautiful. At one point in time in someones life , one will ponder and question and make resolution of their love for someone.

i was about to comment that because Lea is very particular about her name being mispronounced. I actually saw an interview of her and if i remember it right she said it was one of her pet peeves, when she gets interviewed and her name is mispronounced.

Brad, I miss theater too. When it comes back, which it must and will, if you have a chance to see only one show, make it Les Mis. I’ve seen many of your reactions, and can assure you be thrilled by It, learn from it, and cry, a lot. The themes, the musicality, all amazing. Lea is an icon, and this song, sung at the 25th anniversary production, is one of many Morissette-like moments in the show.
