Hey Michael, First, thank you for sharing these videos. I have a 2007 8.1 GI Volvo DuoProp and was wondering if you can show or explain how to adjust the trim gauge? Thank you, Steve
@@michaelromer2016 Thank you for your prompt response. No, I believe it is this. www.greatlakesskipper.com/faria-boat-trim-gauge-12828-mercury-euro-black-2-inch-gp9374d
@@michaelromer2016 I guess you covered it in the video, for some reason I didn't catch it the first time. Wasn't trying to be a smart @$$ about it, sorry if it came off that way.
yes, I do like your video but what I really need to know, is how to connect to the outboard motor. Is there a specific place on the bottom of the motor. i need to know where tHat I do install the wires on the motor.
One other note: I tested the connections in the engine hole and the gauge worked perfect. However, when making the connections to the gauge at the dash I forgot to turn the power off and lightly crossed the ignition terminal with the ground terminal. Replaced 10 amp fuse and it now works backwards.
I thought I replied to this already. I'd get a really cheap trim gauge and test it. I'm 99% sure you shorted out the gauge or some sort of wiring. My subscribers get top priority when it comes to me replying quickly. Please hit that subscribe button!
just ca,e across your vids and they are just what i needed. my trim gauge doesn't work and the trim is working fine. should i assume the gauge is bad? how to test the gauge before replacing?
It's likely your sender is bad. Especially, if you have an 80s/90s OMC/Volvo. You can buy gauges really cheap and test the sender in the back, where the harness is located.
@@michaelromer2016 yep, 1996 VP sx. does it make sence just change the wire routing to more a reachable location? no way can i get to where this vid is showing? i really think the sender is corroded badly. previous owner had total gearcase covered in algea and i mean covered w/ algea.
The two wires that coming out of the trim sender are used in the G and S position. Please keep in mind those two (G & S) wires are not interchangeable. I found that when I ohm test the 2 wires (which go into the G & S part of the gauge) coming from the trim sender, one ohms between 0-160 Ohms @ 20K and if you reverse the leads, you get a different reading. What that means is you need to watch my trim sender diagnosis video first, then re-watch this one. It will walk you through determining which part of your sender is G and which will be S. Have a good one!
I watched the other video and most of your others as well. Thanks so much for your help. So do I separate the plug and redirect the wires from below to the gauge?
I recently replaced my OMC Cobra sender and gauge. Wired correctly but the gauge works backwards. Revered the wire order of the signal and ground but still have the same issue. Is it possible that the polarity of the gauge is reversed?

Thanks for the video- very informative. My boat trim gauge is working fine but I am looking to replace the entire gauge cluster to modernize the dash a little bit. If I simply swap gauges and don’t touch the trim sender or anything at the back of the boat, will the gauge require adjustment or will it just be calibrated when it’s installed in the dash? Thank you in advance!

@@piercemykytyn5852 You adjust the accuracy of your gauge by rotating your sensors on your sterndrive!
I - ignition
G - ground
S - signal
It really is that simple
That's right! Thanks and subscribe!

@@JasonTAho Oh no problem! Have a good one!
You put two wires on ground or 1?
Hi is put two but I don’t know if’s need 2?
I have a buzzing noise coming from two different trims that i have tried now? thoughts? only buzzes when turned on? TIA
How I seen in your video you put 2 Ground 1 from sensor and second from boat is correct?

whst happens if you take the bolts out that are located on the side of the gearcase? is this for adjusting or is there acess to wiring connections?
That for adjustment purposes. You can turn the drive to the left and take a peak at the cable. Chances are it is comprised.
From where would I get the lead to connect the trim sensor to the gauge? I have located the plug.

These gauges work based on a potentiometer built in the trim sender, in the back. For that reason, no adjustments are needed for your upgrade.
What about mercruiser
You can make a sender work with a ground, hot, and sender connection. It doesn’t matter the make and or model of the boat.
where does does the sender wire go though???? this video isnt very informative.
