    Welcome to the community!
Wanted to put my thought's on character creation in wasteland 3 after finishing my first run of Supreme jerk. BG 3 is just around the corner so I know that I could likely give out more tips but it's not likely ill have time to add to this guide.
Some information is contradictory to my Ranger guide but that will happen when playing in such a short time and only once or twice.
    Cheers, hope this was helpfull.

Okay, so I know I'm late for the party here but here's my OMEGA list of tips for supreme jerk in comparison to what Ronin Jeremy said in video:
    1. Bronco & Kickboy have the 10% critical strike utility item, which is massive, but I didn't like starting with premade characters nor trashing them and creating another pair after you got to HQ first time. You can play without this items, there are many good utility items in the game, but you only got 2 starting characters ;)
    2. Sex machine background + cricus freak quirk is a great combo, especially for the SMG guy, you have all the speed you need on those two, literally played him with 1 speed whole game, and you don't have to waste points in speed otherwise put into awareness, inteligence, coordination. With perk on automatic weapons level 8 - stormer, you essentially run 6 squares to get free attack
    3. On snipers, always take death wish quirk for +3ap, you can then shoot twice every round - you have 14 ap base at max coordination.
    4. Sneaky shit I feel was very good on rocket launcher character. You got guaranteed critical strike on explosives lvl 7 perk, and with level 10 sneaky shit perk giving you another +100% damage is just nuts damage. I even managed to get level 7 small arms perk on him, which gave me at least 2 rockets fired in turn 1, because it makes firing after realoding free, so you only pay for reloading after the first rocket ;)
Played sneaky shit on sniper too, idk if its worth, but I had every skill covered by my 6 characters (played without HQ rangers chars for modding and barter for additional challenge)
    5. Oh boi I need to tell you about weapon modding. It's amazingly good. Making your shotguns and flamethrowers range longer works amazing. But the best thing about mods, is obv damage mods! Not only incendiary linkage, for example, on your SMGs (this combo is super strong but besides the point). Some weapons hits multiple times, so maybe 8 damage isn't even noticeable on sniper rifle, but oh boi does it do the difference on heavy guns and late game smgs? Minigun shoots 18 bullets, every one of them has 8 dmg more, you can calculate how much it actually adds. Same thing on late game SMGs, 10 bullets every attack. You can also add linkage which adds flat damage, for example Toxic one gives you another 8 damage! It's huge.
    6. Flamethrower characters need to have certain combo to feel good: background Disciple of the Metal and quirk Pyromaniac plus heavy investment on weird science for +30% fire dmg, you got the overcharge perk there, which is amazing with flamethrowers, also you need level 7 toaster repair for another perk giving you another +25% bonus fire damage. Very important, mod your weapon on this build, magazine giving more shots before reloading and choke for EXTRA RANGE, which is huge when you fry like 5-6 enemy characters at once, 2 attack in round, and at least one is your overloaded torrent strike (strong attack). You need your leader to rally and max coordination ofc to have enough ap for this combo.
    7. DoT damage is, sadly, garbage. I mean, sometimes it procced and actually helped in fight, but it was maybe like twice in a whole campaign. Not only it proc on the end of the round, but also if its a human, he will for sure heal himself. Its okay, because it prevented him from dealing damage to some extent, but nothing to be building your characters around.
    8. Didn't know about crouching exploit. (never mind, just checked in game, didn't work for me, I guess they patched it). Don't like things like that, but if you are really struggling, who am I to stop you if it works for you :)
Okay, so from me some other tips:
    - use Show stat button in attributes page, for example you can check your speed there, but essentially there's all of your stats.
    - when crafting mods for weapons, you can check what ony mod does by pressing shift with your mouse hovering it
    - you can throw some snowballs if you don't have anything other to do in a turn, they help
That's all from me, will edit if something comes to my mind. Noone will read it anyway ;)

But when you talk about your sniper using 6 AP for each shot, don't you use the best snipers? (for me those cost 7 AP per shot) ahh yes, later when you looted the agent-2000 rifle, i saw the AP cost used to be lower.

I just started playing last week. After a first few somewhat frustrating hours, I finally understood the mechanics and think about it all day while at work. One thing I wanna point out, I read somewhere that Leadership does not stack but instead goes with the highest level any character has. Would be pointless to have more than one character having that skill, wouldn't it? Correct me if I'm wrong.

    • @RoninJeremy
      @RoninJeremy  2 роки тому

Not entirely pointless. It's been a while but if it's like divinity original sin or many other similar games, leadership doesn't effect the character with it. So depending on the perks you get from it a second person gives it to the leader. Also can help with its limited range.
But wasteland has a lot of skills to try to get across the party, so likely a second leader would be later in the game if you even feel you'll want one.
      Hope that helps.

My experiences after 1 play through with Ranger difficulty. At Ranger difficulty early and mid game can be a challenge but endgame is way too easy. Finished the final fight against Patriarch in 3 turns, which was very disappointing fight.
    Skills/Perks
On Armor modding Perk Tendering Loving actually quite nice as it give +8 Armor to all team members. Personally I used this in endgame but this is something I have to reconsider.
Nerd stuff is good for melee characters as Targeting override means that enemies will attack the bots/turrets you have overridden. If you have fast melee characters it means 2 enemies are out and function as shield/decoy for your team. Combined with EMP grenades and fight might be over in 1 turn as all enemies are on your side. Stupid thing is that you can override even bosses with EMP grenades. (Synths, robots and turrets)
Animal Whisperer is a great perk line as well, which I certainly did not use on best possible way. Animals work as decoys/tanks and do good damage, they give nice buffs (spirit animal). Secondly this perk line makes it super easy when fighting animals as you can charm them.

    • @RoninJeremy
      @RoninJeremy  2 роки тому

I haven't played since release, but IMO armor is pretty negligeable since not getting hit in the first place was my goal / playstyle.
I agree with the end game being disappointing, it's a problem in a lot of tactical games with RPG stats. The games should rely on tactics not stats for their end game. More Environmental elements and mechanics IMO.
      Thanks for the comment, Cheers!

Finished ranger difficulty couple days ago, now on a supreme jerk run. Just wanted to share a few things.
Somewhere along the way they added crafting and one of the new weapons is a sniper rifle called freeze ray. Now what's interesting about that particular rifle is its very high chance to hit (base is 90%), in addition to that you will be able to use the skill risky shot. In that run I ended up with 151% chance to hit and there's still room for improvement. Essentially, you will be able to crit with every shot your sniper fires because risky shot doesn't have a cooldown so it will pretty much replace your default attack. But there's more - it deals cold damage which is excellent against organic targets and the shot will be piercing, or going through everything - much like ray tracer so you can line them up for a good shot. Fairly common to one-shot at least 2-3 targets, with patience and timing you can get even more (5 targets was the max for me).
I put lockpicking on my ranger since you get a ton of exp from picking locks in this game (is it the highest? more than explosive, hacking etc?) but it might even be better on a character with high charisma to squeeze as much exp out of those locks as you can.
I was fairly disappointed with animal whisperer. Outside of providing specific buffs like crit chance/damage for your sniper or evasion for your tank, the enemies rarely focused them. Not sure if they changed that since I got the game with version 1.4 already. For distraction purposes decoy seemed a million times more effective. Also, a lot of pets actually get in the way of your MG/shotgun's strike skills which is quite frankly extremely annoying. I'm noticing that especially on my SJ run right now where I gave everyone 2-3 points in animal whisperer to have some additional meat shields but so far the enemies are avoiding them almost entirely.
Weird science could be extremely potent on modded miniguns - one with cold/fire damage for organic targets and the other one with energy damage. I'm thinking specifically about the perk microwave research which adds flat damage.
Evasion seems to be the way to go on SJ if you want a tank, though I'm not sure you really need one? I'm currently looking to achieve 100% evasion with the help of Defend, which adds 5% evasion for every AP spent and it seems fairly managable to get to a base evasion of 50-60%, meaning you'll need about 8 AP to get that sweet 100% evasion. With smoke grenades or the pet Polly (5% evasion or 10%, if you pick the 2nd animal whisperer perk) you can push those numbers even higher.
I missed this one the first run but the merc Wolfe will reward you with a pretty amazing skill to level (crit chance, up to 50%) if you hunt down all the synths. Definitely something one should utilize though I'm not sure what the best way to go about it is as of now. Initially I was thinking about a sniper but with freeze ray and risky shot you crit anyway, you don't need more. So perhaps this could be put to good use on a minigun character or shotgun.

    • @RoninJeremy

Thanks for the feedback, i did play 1.0 so things might have changed a bit since.
Sounds like decent changes but i don't think enough to bring me back to the game, at least not yet.
For SJ i feel like building a tank could work but that is a bit risky imo. A dead enemy can't hit you. And even with full tank stats i could still die in one turn. It also only works if they target the tank.
Give it a shot, sounds like the sniper would still be your carry though. I still think 2 snipers is likely the way to go for SJ. Mind you i heard that the jackhammer got nerfed so don't follow my run through lol. I abused that a little after a while.
      Cheers!

@@RoninJeremy Completely forgot to to put that in my initial comment but well done video! Perhaps a bit lenghty but very useful :)
I will restart with maxed charisma and see how things go from there. This is probably the most interesting takeaway for me from this video, never considered that even though it seems a bit obvious if you want to maximize the exp gain.
I also just loaded up a save that put me close to endgame, the fight at the ranger HQ, to test the jackhammer. With the strike skill I still hit Greatski for about 1.9k dmg, not quite enough for a one-shot but still decent. I guess it must have been absolutely nuts in version 1.0.
