I used to have a pet sheep. Late one summer he got out and mowed down my herbaceous border (iris, daylilies, catmint, etc.). It came back in a few weeks better than I ever would have expected. This is when I began to understand the relationship between grazing animals and plants. We gardeners need to mimic grazing animals and remove the top growth in late summer as hungry grazers would do. Thank you for a very well presented video!
thank you for the post really informative, but i was never taught when i was an apprentice if you mulch with compost or manue and when do i feed sa;vias, i have hot lips and salvia pretemsis growing on a border, many thanks
Hi Rosy thanks for this it is very helpful. My Italian cypress (totem variety) had its foliage turn to brown. Do you suggest I cut them down entirely so as to encourage new growth?
Nearly impossible to water as you suggest with a very large perennial garden that must be hand watered. ☹️Mine have been cut back already since we are having drought and temps in the 90s. ( F)

WOW! You’re so intelligent (and experienced!). I never thought about it like that. Thanks! 🌸
Thank you Rosy, that's really good information, I'll get right on it. 👍🤗🌱
Brilliant, thank you so much! New subscriber here👍
NEPETA: I cut mine back like you demonstrated for the sake of the pollinators. I cut back the spent bloom stalks.
Such a helpful video. Thank you so much

Rosy, which plant was it that you cut all the way back, right before the Nepeta?
melittis melissophyllum

Use a soaker hose
