Although, I remember the days when the Phenom II x4 955 was such a good bargain, and before the Core i5-2500k stomped a mudhole in it. I built my brother a system around one of these and a Sapphire Toxic 1GB 4870

@@thecatdaddy1981 if you didn't know intel kept releasing refreshes of core i7 with the same core count until 7th generation, and guess what? 7th gen competed with 1st gen ryzen, then they upped the core count with 8th gen and so on

I have Horizon Forbidden West on an i7 2600k, it doesn’t start at all, because it doesn’t have F16C instructions, but here it not only starts, but also 100 fps. Even on i7 4770 fps the average is 2 times lower than in these “tests”.

@@gigihgigih9192 API, most games are designed under DirectX, Dx11-12 and VULKAN API is relatively a new thing. You can't say that Vulkan is better or worse than Dx11 or Dx12, it's more about building low-level components of a game. Due the fact that directx coding was used for years (DirectX9 is trully legendary) Vulkan technology won't be the killer of DirectX.

The equivalent CPU with i7 870 in its 14 years ago should be Pentium Pro 150 MHz. Guess the differences they have.
3770k OC'd to 4.5 ghz with 2060 running a racing rig in 1080 and an FX8350 running vpin in 1080. They still work acceptably.
I had a 3770k and a GTX 1080 in my media rig, until the P67 board died. An overclocked 3770k held up well with the GTX 1080. My main rig had an E5-1680 v2 with a GTX 1080ti, then an RTX 3070, and it held up well with both cards. Running quad-channel memory at 2400MT/s really helps Ivy Bridge processors a lot.

Intel avx emulator or SSE fixes. There are some people who are keeping old CPU's "updated" for certain games.

Not really. CPU's will last for ages, unless they're over-volted. Intel and board partners never gave these old CPUs more than 1.25v.

3:45 this right side on Forbidden West has too much fps, that the physics messing up, which is why 60fps is the most recommneded one (and some games like granblue fantasy has messing up physics on 60 fps)
9700k vs 14700k ?
In heavy threaded games it get 4x. Least threaded games is 2.5-2.8x. thats the difference in single thread uplift and multi thread uplift. CP can eat 32 cores and ask for more.
I would be suprise, how the g7400 can still hold up in 2024. I never found a benchmark like alan woke 2 or other games example.
I still play on my old 3770K. It's amazing what that old CPU can still do, but more and more games are dipping into the 30/40fps range or stuttering, so I finally decided to upgrade my PC.
14700K will certainly be a massive upgrade from 3770K, but I'm worried about the power consumption. It seems that 14600K is much more efficient (100W less power consumption compared to 14700K according to the techpowerup multi-thread power consumption test) despite being just 6-10% slower, so I would rather buy 14600K.
I'm also thinking of switching to an AMD CPU, as something like a 7800X3D will be twice as power efficient as a 14700K, and still be faster.
u should go with am5 right now , 7800x3d only uses like 60w in gaming and competes with all high end cpus in just gaming performance + the am5 socket is future proof , lga 1700 is finished with 14th gen intel

This is actually freaking amazing that a CPU from 2009 manages to run games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and the newest Warzone at ~60 FPS.
Imagine a CPU from 1994 running games from 2005-2009 like Assassins Creed 2 & GTA IV
People want the act like Moore's law isn't slowing down but come on.. it used to be twice performance every 10 minutes. This is why buying a 4090 now will still have value in 12 years. At that point.. GPUs will not be 10 times faster.. only like 3x faster because we cannot progress as fast as we once did because MLID!!!! Also . Anyone that tries to argue it's not does not factor in the cost of new nodes. They are more expensive which factors into Moore's equation. We are at the point where nodes will lever off and advancements will come in 3d stacking and other technologies..not because we can indefinitely shrink transistors. We cannot do that. I would be in 20 years we will barely be past true 1nm if we even get there. At the rate of the 80s and 90s we would have passed 1nm years ago. We haven't..............................

@@christophermullins7163 It's not the nodes that kills off old hardware like this but the lack of newer DX feature sets and CPU Instruction sets. The 780ti would still be a somewhat serviceable card if it had DX feature set 12.0 and 12.1 capabilities. The same goes for these Westmere/Gulftown 6-core Xeon processors and their 6-core i7 counterparts. They're obsolete because they don't support AVX.

30fps is unacceptable. IF you have a variable refresh rate and IF the game has some really good motion blur and IF your eyeballs are kinda ass and don't see fast motion clearly anyway than the lower fps that is remotely enjoyable is 40+. Even in that situation it would be worth doing anything possible to get up a little to 50+ so it doesn't have quite the slideshow feel to it. In the real world with real gamers and like to play and reasonable framerates and expect smooth visuals.. 75+ is the minimum and even that has an obvious strobing effect on camera pans. Let's not even get started on how beneficial high framerates are for scrolling through texts as well. 😊 Let's all appreciate how valid the fact is that all new phones of any sort of value at all have refresh rates of 120hz or higher. ALL new iPhones and flagship androids are 120-144hz even though 90% of usage is tiktok and texting. Because it helps.. a LOT.
