14:45 I like how you edited that notification so it looked like it was on the screen
As nice as Aqua is, there's definitely still something to be said for Platinum, wonderful UI!
Love how much of the NextStep roots you can see in early OS X.
Rhapsody DR2 was the cream of the crop... the best software NaPPLE ever released. It's all been downhill from there.
Oh shit a two parter?
Now this is gonna be good.
Enjoy the new video! This is a 2-parter so make sure to subscribe and click the *Bell* so you don’t miss the next part…
UPDATE: the subtitles are now available!
idkw but the weeks feel too long cuz i always miss these.
Computer Clan have you ever tried installing the oldest version windows on a really old apple product, if you haven't try making a video of the process of how to do it Thank You❤❤❤ Love You
Also another idea is trying to upgrade the oldest apple product components in order to get it to run the lastest OS of MacOS Mojave
Good thing there's auto-genereated captions!!!!
Well, I need a subtitle for this video as soon as possible. (Sorry about that)
@@moelester1997, It's okay, but not that good.
Maniac Mike, would you be so helpful and walk *all the way over there* to press the power button?
Or press the sub button
*Naniac Nike
He'll drive the 3 feet
How ‘bout mine?
About 14:48 : man reffers to the section where the manpage you saw belongs to. Each section contains manpage for a certain topic.
Watching Ken's tech misadventures makes me happy that there is someone in this universe who has worse luck with anything more advanced than copying and pasting a file than me
Well, Looks I need to pull my PowerMac G3 out again!
"Mac OS X 10.0 Developer Preview 1 is a hybrid of Mac OS and NeXTSTEP". Subsequent versions of OSX are not? Well, maybe you mean that they are essentially just NeXSTEP at the core and no classic Mac OS stuff at all which is probably true!
The only vintage Mac OS installation video from the Computer Clan in recent history made as a two parter was when Krazy Ken had to install Mac OS 9 on a computer, but ended up on an iBook G3 Clamshell after he had tried on the iBook G4 and the iMac G4.
Half Life 2 quotes and vintage macs? You're becoming my favorite vintage tech channel.
Thank you : )
You're welcome man! all joking aside, i love your work. Currently watching your videos while installing Mac OS 9.1 on a Flower Power iMac G3 !@@ComputerClan
Ahhh... Flower Power. I think my old high school had one-or it was the Dalmatian one.
me every single day: "here's what we know: we know it's not working, what we don't know is how to make it work"
The G3 was cool. We found a couple being thrown out around 10 years ago and beefed them up as high spec as they could go at the time.
Ended up editing a short film with DV footage in final cut 7 on 10.4 I think.
It also just kept up with Quake 3 deathmatch over our network.
That sounds fun. It's a cool machine.
Very nice. The earliest version I used was Developer Preview 4, and that was probably on the same machine (I had a 400 MHz tower) and, of course, back when it was current. I was very excited about Mac OS X back in the day, having experienced OS 9's lack of protected memory and preemptive multitasking. I was beyond ready for the switch. I still have my DP4 CD-R around somewhere, as well as a factory-produced Public Beta that I had ordered and installed later.
That’s awesome.
You should try to install every other DP and the PB as a grand finale of sorts. Should be fun to see the evolution of OS X like that
This channel should be called "Krazy Ken's Tech Misadventures Channel" because episodes were served to us for months
Krazy Ken's Tech Misadventures is the flagship show-much like how Mickey Mouse is the mascot of Disney, but Disney is still called Disney. The Computer Clan will still be called Computer Clan. However, we do have some AMAZING non-Krazy Ken content coming soon ; )
@@ComputerClan just fun
Angry Birds 2017 oh hola!
yey c:
The 18th anniversary of macos x is in 3 days
10.3 DP has a beautiful intro, anyway I haven’t seen it fully but just looking at the intro it looks amazing
ok
Once, I got the "Panic: we are hanging here" message on a board damaged iPhone 4
15:51 a better description would be "NeXT Step skinned to look like Mac OS". I remember a .plan comment from programmer John Carmack expressing slight disappointment that Apple had spent all their time making a Mac skin for NeXT Step rather than introducing new features into NeXT Step, and yeah on a technical level Mac OS X was just a re-skinned NeXT Step back then, it was the OpenGL hardware acceleration (Steve Jobs listened to Carmack's advice on this) that really got the ball rolling towards the launch version of Mac OS X.
I liked how Ken used the letter N instead of the letter M in order to pull a big funny on a broken keyboard
Came for the old mac stuff, stayed for the Man Man & Boy Boy call out.
I bought a G3 from a guy on Facebook Marketplace for 20 dollars. When I got it home, it had a board in it that I had never seen before and I found out it was an add-on for a DVD drive. Sure enough, when I looked, it DID have a DVD drive in it! I have 3 Blue and Whites in my collection, and I've always thought they were the coolest looking tower Apple ever released. Where did you get the developer CD?
7:51 I just checked the PDF version of the iTunes license agreement and its, get this,
260 pages.
Oh dang
holy shit, man thats a lot of pages
how did you read?
(did you see the thing about nuclear things?)
I think this is the first video i watched on this channel
used to not watch this channel because are used Windows but now I like it
Mac OS X 10.0 preview beta is from 1999...this OS have greats graphismes for 1999.
Your channel is the best!
True
13:25 Kinda interesting how Apple doesn't do that too much anymore and now if you look for the "rounded corner obsessed UI", you'll find it in Google's "Material Design 2" and Samsung's "One UI". Both UIs for Android.
I disagree. Please have another look at macOS. Everything still uses rounded corners.
Heh. It’s funny to hear people use “a very long time ago” and “iMac” in the same sentence. But yeah, I had a B&W G3. In fact, in its later days, it ran Mac OS 10.4 Server 24/7. The only “downside” was that after the initial setup, it ran without a hitch for a number of years. By the time I was ready to migrate the server to a new machine, I’d completely forgotten how to set it up.
In my opinion, 90s and early 2000s (up until 2006-7) Mac design is the peak of Apple.
Wow that was easy to open and close... Where are cases like that today
Apple made good stuff.
the suspense is killing me. this is even better than rhapsody DR2 : ))
I installed Apple Rhapsody on a virtual machine and it's almost identical to OS X DP 1 except for the verbose boot screen which looks like the verbose boot screen of NeXTSTEP...
A funny thing was that Apple sent me a copy of OpenStep final after I wrote them a letter. Then they sent me all the developer releases until OSX became proper.
I had Openstep running on Sun Sparcstations, NeXT hardware, HP machines and a variety of Dell laptops. I think I ran Rhapsody on Intel and Mac... can't recall.
Irony is that we lost all of that flexibility somewhere along the way. For no reason. Sheesh. Nowadays the only fast mac is a Hackintosh.
I like your comment, but I disagree with your last statement. Macs are still fast. I still use my near 6-year-old computer for all my videos. The new MacBoom Pros have an 8-core i9 with a Vega 20. That sounds fast to me, and that’s just in a laptop. : o
I'm glad you took my suggestion of Try Not develop a preview for testing out
“Did you press it right?”
There is no wrong way to turn it on.
I still miss platinum. If I could theme modern MacOS to look like it, I would jump on that shit so fast.
Holy pancake! the iTunes EULA does say you're not allowed to use iTunes for nuclear weapon creation or biological warfare
14:25 I'm not a cowboy, I'm a cowman.
A manman.
HEY ACTUALY I WAS PRETTY CLOSE, ill get you next time krazy ken!!
You had my attention from the content, but you earned my like for the HL2 reference.
Remind me what I said. I don’t remember. XP
ive been messing with Old Apple Systems Recently as i got a 12in iBook G3 from 2002. i tried to install 10.1 on it but no success there just get the spinning ball for 15 min then it freezes. can do 9.2.2 and 10.2/3/4 but nothing in between
oh boi a two parter
(also 4 views but 5 comments and 6 likes when I clicked on a video that came out 1 minute ago and had no views... youtube is weird)
I have the realtime stats. It's actually at 120 views.
CC,you are the greatest, upload more videos please
More than the 1,100 we already uploaded?? Okay! We might have 2 next week…
@@ComputerClan super,good luck,please love this comment
This installation was like the modern Mac OS installations
I don't think so. The modern macOS installer shows a logo, a progress bar, and a "time remaining" counter. This installer has a GUI with mouse control, and it shows information about what is being installed.
4:17 The drive already had DP1 installed, but the Mac couldn’t boot from it.
uh-oh
*where's the repair section?*
And I just ordered lunch on postmates! Great timing lol
Heck yeah
DP totally has a different meaning………... can’t say here or I’m gonna get in trouble. BTW, you can basically do addition and multiplication to construct any and all other mathematical functions.
still waiting on the ms-dos installation sensation video
DP1 was SO horribly slow. Rhapsody DR2 was blindingly fast... it was a perfect blending of NeXTStep and OSX.
Why don't you try to install a version of Mac OS X on a normal pc?
A Hackintosh? I plan to… one day ; )
Many people refer to macos as an unix os, but that's not the case, it's a mach os and those oses nslaves a bsd subsystem to get bsd compatibility, that should make you feel superior to any linux or pure bsd boy, you have the mach os which is the best in managing hw resources and then you have the bsd subsystem, which gives you programs compatibility and portability
I sometimes say it’s a “Unix System”, but I’m hesitant to say that. I suppose I should say “Mach” more (and yes, Mach is really badass.) However, to be technical, macOS is a Unix 03 compliant system, so I think it’s okay to say “Unix System”. But to be safe, I throw the “03” part in there ; )
Well it's compatible just because it has that subsystem, which is based on free bsd on actual mac os versions, the bad ass thing is that we can say that mach literally enslaves bsd, so while linux or bsd users just uses a unix os, we use an os which enslaves unix, so that makes us fell better @@ComputerClan
@@ComputerClan the point is that it's not just unix, but it's compliant
It was Mac OS X panther when the Apple logo boot screen was introduced
I don’t think so. I have an iMac with Jaguar on it, and it shows the Apple. Please watch the latest iMac G4 episode if you want to see for yourself : )
Alright Krazy Ken, your turn!
How did you get the developer preview?
thank you for this dear cake day present
Maniac Mike, Braniac Brent, and Krazy Ken
Oh look! 18:44 It's Boise! Well, hello from Boise lol
11:29 knock on a lot of (beepping) wood
Hey what about the download link for that OSX? ^^
Do Mac OS X public beta
Can somebody comment the link for when that fire went off in that clip.
12:12 Where is Steve Jobs?
Hello there,
*Mike*
firmly grasp the lid.. the lid the lid the lid
Hahaha. Love it.
I called it on Twitter so hard. Oh man does it feel nice
Oh hey, my request!
thank you for the entertainment like always ps nice advertisement lol
Thank you : )
A lot of apple devs call rebooting "respring"
what
respringing is restarting Springboard on iOS devices
Can i use the bsod part of your intro on my video?
It depends. How do you plan to use it? What’s the context? : )
@@ComputerClan I would like to use it for a video that I will publish, to make a transition with a text
Do a klondike beat version
Cool now do a Rhapsody boot on a G3 or in VirtualBox.
Today on Peppermint Park, we’re introducing the letter *M!*
Today on South Park, we’re introducing the letter *F!*
I thought 10.1 was bad...
Great video
How would you know? It's been up for 60 seconds.
Computer Clan Well your videos are really great and amazing so yea and also plz love my comment!
Also you should try to use Xcode for a episode
In part 2, we’ll use Project Builder, which was Xcode before Xcode. : D
That into was just
IT DOESN’T
IT DOESN’T
IT DOESN’T
IT DOESN’T
IT DOESN’T
I worked at Apple in the early 2000’s and we HATED this pile of shit. It was SOOOO buggy it drove us nuts but Steve Jobs had to show everyone a real modern operating system because OS/9 was painfully old and was being left in the dust by WindowsXP, we had all this amazing hardware coming out (G4 Cube, I still have mine in the box!) but no operating system. I would have at least one kernel panic a day on my workstation, that thing was such a hog on RAM and couple that with OS9 “Classic” running in the background of an already buggy operating system. 10.1 was such a godsend.....
This has like no comments. Wow. Keep up the good vids though
It has 183 comments. I thought that was an a'ight number : c
@@ComputerClan It's decent. But compared to some of your other videos, it's not much. But I still love your content no matter the views.
Mac OS 10 10. Nice title mate 👌
That's how it's referred to. Mac OS X 10.0 is even used in the crash log.
There's a power button on the keyboard by the way...
Can you give me a lift of all compatible models for the DP?
Yes. Power Mac G3 (Blue and White) and the beige model desktops. It's very limited out of box.
Plz make this videos in 1 part
4:07 computer being bad
Is nobody’s mind blown about a platinum OSX
Most people haven't seen it. Everybody is different. Everybody is predisposed to different experiences at different times.
Funny how my school distract is literally called the BSD... kinda weird but cool
That restart icon is a Hanzo's scatter icon lmfao.
Guess I'll give this video one star. Oh wait...
(14:28)
Stars??!?! What is this? 2007???
@@ComputerClan Lol no. I just got the reference. (Man Man)
I'd give five stars. Really, this show is great. And I don't even like Apple products!
0:30 Yes I did.
4:06 oof
the m key was doing a lil bit of trolling
nice half life 2 reference lmfao
MacOS stickies still has this UI........
Nice reference y'all! (BTW I'm American)
Which reference? : o
Oh crap I forgot the reference.
If it forgot which drive to boot from and had to search for the drive, it could have lost its PRAM config due to a dead PRAM battery. You should probably remove/replace it before it ruptures and sprays its icky bad stuff all over the inside to corrode the fuck out of the fucking logic board and other electronic shit and bits.
What is the title of episode #61
Oops. I should’ve added a card for that. Search MAME.
