  • Been feeling down lately. Which is odd considering things are going really well. I’ve got a lot of ambition but I feel a lack of focus. Anyway, just wanted to talk some things out with you guys.

Something I'm realizing as I grow in this job is the never ending need for "more." It's this trap that success can lead people into; a bottomless rabbit hole of more opportunities, more accomplishments, more projects, more of a legacy. You reach the next milestone, but it quickly becomes not enough. You check an item off your list and another gets added. And you step back and realize it's just another drug, just another high you're chasing. Self-checking that feeling is really hard, especially in our line of work. I get what you're feeling. You're not the only one.

no ,that's normal for ambitious people>>>>they always feel they are not doing enough no matter what!
when you start to feel you are doing enough ,you will stop making progress.
because your mind hates to feel uncomfortable , and it will do whatever it takes to feel better .
and as he says ,he is looking for future , because that's what matters for a human, the future ,the past doesn't really matter .
i can see that mark feels empty , like existence of a jewel for no reason.( and that's just guess )
i really thank him for giving us such a unique experience , i can only see from this, learning a lot about life.

Thinking about the future is very good though because it prepares you for what is to come. I am now 36 and totally lost in many ways, but I was loosing my mind when I hit 30. I cried. It's unbelievable how you manage to put my feelings into words. I relate so much. I'm currently battling depression, and I believe a big precursor to this hopelessness I keep feeling is the knowing that I want something to strive for. I crave to feel that I have a purpose and that I change the world for the better everyday. I feel a strong desire to move forward, but I just can't seem to figure out where to start and where I want to go. What am I good at, what do I want to do with my life? This feeling of wanting to achieve something and the lack of hope and direction really fuels any depression, and my depression really blocks the light I'm trying to find.
Thank you for being you. Once again you put my feelings into words and show us that we are not alone.

They’re saying that feeling sad or unhappy is not a bad thing, as long as you believe that things will turn out ok eventually. Now please leave, since you ruined a perfectly good comment with your toxicity.

    1. Get a sturdy fern
    2.Give it a name “Leroy”
3.Take a single seed of it every day for two months
4.After two months take all Leroys seed and scatter it in your back yard randomly
    5.wait for new ferns
    6. Plant Leroy with his new family
    7. Call Leroy papa Leroy l
    8. Continue scattering all seeds
    9. Sell ferns as cloak merch
    10. Sell all ferns
    11. Realize the point of this
    12. Repeat
    13. Don’t want to continue planting ferns
    14. Revisit the first game you ever played.

There are things in life we don't understand. The sudden bouts of unease and loss of direction can strike at anytime and will hit anyone. It can happen to the young, the old, the simple and complex, to the carefree and doubtful. It comes and goes but the memory will stay, like an imaginary chill clinging to your spine. It's up to the person whether the memory haunts or is forgotten

You are an amazing person. It's perfectly ok to feel down. Everyone does. I do. But you make us happy. And if rambling makes you happy, do it. If making videos make you happy, do it. Anything that makes you happy, do it. Me and many others (I'm sure) will be happy that you're happy. So find your joy, even if your just a little down, I want you to be the happiest you can! My 10 yr. old son watches your videos all the time and I was like who is this guy? He replied it's Markiplier mom; he's funny. I watched with him and laughed as well but also watched some of your more serious vids it's amazing what you do. I also believe that just about anyone or everyone wants to do more to help make our world a better place to live. It can be hard on making decisions what could be more helpful or joyful to the populace that is culture or population. Turning 30 is just another number but I do understand the need to want to do more than what you're doing now. Stay positive, stay ambitious and you'll find your goal that you want to reach eventually.

  • @Cometstarlight
    @Cometstarlight 5 років тому +2669

I say this with the upmost sincerity, I think your ambition has burned you out to an extent. I'm not saying to stop being you, not at all. You're so focused on "[your] future, your friend's future, humanity's future," etc. and there's nothing wrong with preparing for the future, but I think you're so set on what's going to happen tomorrow or what your 30s are going to be defined by, that you feel like today is passing you by which makes you feel glum.
I've had concerns similar to yours to where it nearly consumed me and the only thing I could think about was the future and what I was going to do. It was miserable because I couldn't enjoy being in the now. My mom still tells me now to take life one day at a time. Nothing wrong in preparing for the future, but don't spend your life worried or stuck thinking about it. Enjoy your life, man. You've got friends, family, and pets that love you dearly, and they wouldn't want you to feel down because you're thinking about the future of everyone. Enjoy your life. Don't feel that you have to "define" your 30s or any other age. Life is different for everyone. I'm still trying to figure out mine. Don't whittle your's away trying to figure it out for everyone else.

Same. I failed my last exam and have to leave the nursing program. Now, I have to wait a semester to either go back or do something else. It's ok to be feeling down as long as you figure it out and pick yourself back up. I would donate my time if I were you to those people less fortunate. It's the holidays and families don't have food for Thanksgiving, older people are lonely in the nursing home, people are forced to stay in the hospital during the holidays because of unforseen events. It feels good to help and make a difference. You make a difference indirectly for people and that's the incredible thing about youtube. We are all searching for purpose. I understand you man. We will figure it out and hopefully find our purpose. Much love man

Mark, this melancholy feeling is probably because you’re a little stressed. You just launched cloak and you’re having fun on the channel and all but because you’re putting out so much content so fast that you’re now subconsciously preparing for the future. And the more you think of the future, the more scenarios you create for yourself, and overall you’re just over stressing yourself. And also, slow down! I know you stated that you were bored and you wanna do more and more but the more you do now, the less you have later, and eventually, you’ll run out of things to do and you’ll get bored again. All you should do know is take like a week long break, chill out, have fun with Chica, sleep in, and discover new music. Mark, you’re amazing and you have inspired me and many other people. Don’t worry, you’re fine. Now relax and chill out.

Maybe try different art forms, maybe make a short film that doesn't revolve around the Markiplier universe. Or even, maybe go on a trip to somewhere you've never been before, if you can, go explore the rare parts of earth. The world is a big place, and has so much to offer.

Part of the problem that I found out is that you should not compare yourself to people, and how they've impacted the world as opposed to you. The fact that all 22 million of us love you and support you, is proof that you are doing more than enough for the world, and always trust us to push you forward with whatever we can offer. We are here for each other, as humans and roommates on this small planet.

It blows my mind that this man spends so much time doing and giving and being the best kind of human to look up to, and he still wishes he could do more. That's not something you see very often. It's such an admirable quality. But, it is also a damaging one. I look up to Mark so much. He's the kind of person I want to be someday. He is one of my driving forces. And it makes me wonder: If Mark has done all of this and still wants more, than what more can I be doing? What kind of change can I bring about? Because I also wish to do good and to leave more than I take. Hopefully, me, Mark, and anyone else feeling this way will soon find their purpose. Maybe soon, we will live up to our full potential...

I have to say Mark, I know exactly how you feel. New year's eve 1998 my dad died. I was 12. 10 years later I felt really down, and didn't even connect the dots. Obviously I feel down every year. Then this year it was 20 years (I'm not old, not old! 32 is not old dammit). And it has hit me so hard, and again more subconsciously. I started to question everything in the world. I started avoiding facebook and the news because of the depressing stories everywhere. And more importantly I wish I could do more to help those in need. And it's saddens me so much that I can't. But your videos, they have been a constant bright spot. Your infectious enthusiasm, the raging and the laughs. The jump scares and the honesty. Every single one has had me laughing, crying and just feeling better knowing that there are people like you out there. So thank you. Because of you, I have decided to give streaming a try as a way to talk through random things, whether people are there listening or not, it's an outlet. Thank you for just being you

Depression can creep on upon anyone mark. It can come in waves. These waves can be short, long, really frequent, or really delayed.
From what I/we recall, you've gone through a lot this year, starting a clothing brand, losing loved ones, doing things that most people wouldn't even believe they would be able to do in their life time. You move people, more then you think. And those people will move you back. But sometimes, despite all the good, and the bad that happens. Depression will always find a way to sneak up on you, and put a dark cloud over your head. It makes you feel like you have a sense of continued dread over you. Not so much that you'd be worried for your safety or someone else's safety. But more along the lines of you being overly careful about what actions you end up doing which, if left unchecked. These actions will start running your life, more then you want them to. You gotta try your damnedest to manage your life and what you wish to do, and even what you wish to feel. If you're missing something, try to achieve it.
Now... With all that being said. I know you want to go out and do more mark, and by all means go for it. But be warned. I've seen people try to go forward, go beyond youtube. And some of those people are quite successful, and others aren't. Not saying you wouldn't be, its pretty clear that you are extremely successful with how you've built yourself and your channel. It's just. "WE" don't want to watch you go down a road that you're not ready to handle.
You might not be able to handle it. Hell, you might BE able to handle it, but it might become a bit to much later on. It all depends on whether or not you're ready for that change.
Whatever you wish to do mark. Make sure you think it over first before doing it. We will support you throughout the whole journey. It's just we also don't want to watch you fall off halfway through either, because you weren't ready. Sure, failing is a learn experience. But failing continuously isn't something you would want to do. Which is what I/a lot of use fear would happen to you... We don't want to see you become demotivated, to the point where you stop trying, and give up. Hopefully, that won't ever happen.
Regardless. Best of luck though with everything. You changed a lot since I/a lot of us have found you. From the first time I found you steaming SCP-087b to now. You've changed and grown a massive fuckton. *Aside from height I guess :P* And I sure the hell hope you continue to grow and expand to as many people as possible, to leave your "mark" in everyone's heart and so forth.

Mark, you always make me feel like there's more I could achieve in life but I could never know what. Just being here and watching your videos brings all sorts of good emotions. Even when you say you're a little down you let "us" know and try to sort it out with "us".
UA-cam doesn't have a lot of Creators like you these days I feel. More people are making content for the sake of making content and that's perfectly fine, It's great. But you, you seem like you make videos to better the lives of all of us. You inspire us to do our best.
I'm watching this at 3:30 at night I'm so happy that I did. At night everyone sleeping so all you have is your own thought and you see things that you don't see in the day because the day is always occupied so night time is sometimes a great time think and reflect on your own thoughts and ideas. @Markiplier According to psychology, a man/woman about to be in his 30s or in his 30s goes through what is called a "Mid-life Crisis". Basically it's everything you say, you look back at your life and think what to do want more. "Many middle-aged adults experience major life events that can cause a period of psychological stress or depression", you want and think you can do more which is good. But this might be an explanation to what you feel, but even if it wasn't as humans we want to be better people. You have potential and if you want to do more you do it! Good luck, have fun, and enjoy the ride that is life. (P.S If you do see this Hi)

He loves fans which is shown through countless videos of his and he is humble! He is also been able to inspire me unlike any other celebrity before! Mark ties in his personal experiences and really connects with his audience in every video, especially the vlogs. He is such a humble person... There are many reasons why I think that Mark is amazing but I can’t list them all in just one comment...
I understand what Mark is saying about wanting to do something and not just sitting around. How he loves new adventures, failure and doing something new, how he wants to change the world for the better. He wants to help many people.

As a person who experienced a type of 'down' you're feeling right now, I can tell what it is, it's that there's nothing to keep a 'spark' there, nothing exciting and not meaning your life is boring, but it's just that... There's no real bad thing in your life, where everything is in perfect stasis but things outside are what really gives a 'spark', like hitting a rough patch in a relation-ship, or drama between friends, or even a love one gone. It's just that there's Lack Of anything interesting outside of that perfect stasis. I've gone threw it, and I got out of it by getting out there more making more friends online and offline, trying new hobbies helped my friend (how pointed out to me about this when I was going threw it).
Try to do more things, get out there and do More when you can handle and don't get anxiety from doing more. Just do more on Your time.

Mark, I think that you are looking in the wrong direction for happiness.
I, like you, am a 'go getter' and am always looking to the next thing to bring fulfillment and happiness in my life.
I have found that (when I am able to) living in the moment and taking true appreciation in what I already have, is the only path to lasting happiness.
You must look within to find inner peace. Looking to the next project or idea etc. will not bring a feeling of accomplishment and happiness that is lasting.
It took me an awful long time to figure that out and I constantly battle with the need of 'the next best thing'.
Perhaps saying this to you is my way of trying to recapture that same feeling of fulfillment that is found in complacency.
It is a constant struggle but one worth fighting. Good luck Mark...and I know as sure as the day is long I will need that same luck myself!
    Cheers!

I'm not a psychologist. I don't claim to be. But I have spent a lot of time working with them and something I am hearing in this and that I have heard from you before, Mark, is concerning to me. You speak a lot about wanting to leave a change on the world which is a good goal tied intrinsically to human nature, but I worry about the lense you are seeing it through. I don't know that you will ever see this comment but to anyone struggling with something similar I encourage you to try and view the impact of your current contributions.
Mark, you may feel you haven't changed the world because your worldview feels largely the same, but you absolutely have. All the young people who have found peace and joy in your content while struggling with anxiety and depression, for example. To them? You changed the world. To some of them you gave them the world again when all they saw was darkness that no one else could shed a light on. Those young people will go on to have successful lives and families should they choose and you contributed to making that possible.
All your charity streams have helped so many. Not only do they raise money, but they inspire others to give and continue to do so. You play a large part in supporting organizations that do so much good in the world. Getting their message out and inspiring people to give.
I could go on but this is already getting long. My main point is that you don't need to and honestly shouldn't try to view your contributions to the world by how you have shaped your own worldview. It is rarely satisfying and you will always see more to do than you have done because you have a kind heart that wants to help. I encourage you to take a moment, maybe once a week, and try to think of the ripple effect your accomplishments have to help others. When I struggled with this I set a goal for myself and for a few months I would go once a week and volunteer at a donation center somewhere in my community. While I was there I would try to think of all the good each package I made could do. It made everything feel so much more special and helped me to see those positives in my everyday life.
Whatever works for you, to anyone who can find this helpful, merely being alive and waking up today has created so many opportunities that the world wouldn't have had if you hadn't. Everything you do, big or small, can change the world. Helping just one person, even if it is you, may not fix all the problems across the globe but for that person you may have just given them the world and that is beautiful.

I feel the exact same way about my life. I feel like I'm stuck in the sane everyday cycle, but I've tried to focus on the little differences snd focus on them so that the days don't start to mesh together like they used to. I used to forget so much because everyday felt like i was a broken record stuck on replay, seeing and doing the exact same thing over and over, but i always try to put things into perspective. I always think about what i want my life to mean and it sucks when my first thought is that "it means nothing" and yes it means nothing now but i want it to mean something for at least the pepple i love. I want a meaning in my life and i want to find it but i just have to sit and wait to find what that entails anf what that means for me further down the line, but i havs to focus on the present right now. I have to focus on the fact that i am important, which is probably why my favorite quote from mark is "you are important"
Wow i just made a rant comment here...my bad

By feeling this way you can make things better because without feeling this way you can't really get past that feeling. Idk if that made sense or not but I hope that I made someone's day/night ^_^

I feel the same, but my sense of time makes it odd. Sometimes a week feels like it's been 2 weeks or a week feels like a few days or a year feels like a few months. I normally focus on the things I do in certain classes like playing Quizletlive In English and my team almost always winning or laughing at joke from my history teacher or someone in class. During the weekends I focus on what happens, pet tom & jerry (2 calico cats at my ex-stepdads house) or maybe I Finally hatched a shiny, albino or melan Pokemon on pokefarm.
Everyone deals with feeling down differently, mine is focusing on some good things that happened.

You have influenced over 20 million people with your funny and happy personality and your goals to make the world a better place.
You give people the courage to pursue their dreams, or even just showing people that big dreams and goals are something that one does not need to be embarrassed about and where pursuing it is not meaningless.

No matter what emotion you have and show in these videos, in a way I can feel what you feel and relate to what you say on a personal level. Idk, it makes me feel more connected to you not only as just a viewer or a fan or supporter, but just another human being with the same emotions and thoughts. Or I’m just crazy 👌🏻

I know I'm a couple months late, but I just wanted to say that you're such a great person, Mark. You bring so many people so much joy, I admire your charity work, and I'm really grateful for your videos. I'm not always feeling, well, happy. And whenever I get really down, one of my favorite things to do to cheer myself up is to watch some of your videos. Your funny ones for a good laugh or some your deeper, more meaningful ones to put a smile on my face. You never fail to make me feel better, even when life is really difficult and heavy. I know you don't know me, and that I'm just another person in this comment section, and that you may not even see this, but I just wanted you to know how much I, and so many other people, appreciate you. Thank you so much, for everything that you do. And I really hope that now, a couple months after you posted this video, that you're feeling much happier.
