- Monster is the #1 energy drink in the United States, recently passing Red Bull which is no easy task. But they didn't start by selling energy drinks. In fact, this company existed for years by selling different products, with a much different image than they have today. This video talks all about it.

I rarely drink energy drinks because of the energy. I drink them for the unique flavour you can't find in sodas. And Monster is up there.
Exactly. In fact, I've noticed they don't really even give me a whole lot of energy -- at least, no more than any other caffeinated beverage.

That just seems so culturally accurate. American rappers are getting boozed up drinking Hennessy, Patron, etc. and the Japanese rappers are getting energy drinks so they can focus longer and work harder

In 2004 I took a business class at Columbus State Community College. Our teacher assigned us a company to follow on the stock market. I got HANS. I called the company and told them I was doing a project about their company in school. They sent over $10 in coupons and all kinds of information. They were super nice on the phone too. Well, I watched the stock climb and climb. I tried to convince anyone I knew to buy their stock. Nobody did and I never had any money to. I wish I could go back in time and buy some now.
I really enjoy your channel Company Man. Thank you!

A friend of mine was able to retire at around age 40 because he bought a bunch of this stock early on.
Plus the early 2000’s is when “extreme” sports got popular again and Monster invested into sponsoring these sports. I think that would be their biggest reason they go popular so fast when Monster released.

@@thomson765 monster is a demonic drink. If you know what is good for your soul you would stop drinking it. If you don’t believe me, ask God to reveal it to you in faith.
I think red bull makes most of its sales in nightclubs as a mixer with alcohol, while monster because of its size and the different flavours, it more of a “buy it and drink it” type of drink. Plus monster is cheaper, you get a lot more bang for your buck and tastes better, in my opinion.
I think its the more American of the two, shoutier design, shoutier taste, US can size
My thoughts exactly. You never see Monster in clubs it's always Red Bull.
I've been to bars that even have Red Bull in the fountain soda dispenser.
@@kuebby yeah I’ve seen that too and it’s very weird.
@@dylancarroll4623 It makes sense, they'd have to waste so much space storing and using all those little cans, plus I'm sure it's cheaper to have it on the fountain.
That's because Red Bull is so f*cking expensive!
I prefer Rockstar for that very reason. Here in Canada its 2$ for 473ml of rockstar, ~3 for Monster and a whopping 5$ for 473ml of redbull.
Monster and Rockstar are virtually the same price in the US, with alot of stores doing "mix and Match" sales. Flavor is really the only thing going in Monsters favor.
Tou Yang, yeah but it’s worth it.
@lua ne yioue why? that sounds expensive, should be 1
Tou Yang Absolutely true for a small can
Every offbrand energy drink tastes like red bull. Monster however is unique and tastes amazing
Seriously the other brands in the market mostly taste like medicine which I hate. That is probably why Monster is so popular, it’s different.
Original Monster has that Monster taste, which I really like, but with the Monster ultra, juice and etc. It's heaven to me, also their 300mg energy drink Reign are great.

@@Dead_ham nvm the last reply, bang makes me feel jittery which i dont get from any other energy drink which is why i dont wanna drink it
Really? I think Monster is the most regular meh taste
As a Czech - monster is literally the only energy drink I would buy. It's because of the variety. Red Bull was pioneer but got stuck with trying to make their only "stock" flavour the brand. Monster's Juiced line line Mango Loco, Ripper, Punch or the tea ones like Rehab are actually good tasting soft drinks. The base Monster does not really interest me all that much.
BTW I've only seen RedBull being so popular when RedBull and Vodka (called "the Wings") was the club drink of choice for like 3-4 years. It made me really hate the taste and smell of RedBull.
Diet Monster (blue) tastes pretty good although I never buy it anymore. I think I was too poor for a while.

I gotta say, Monster tastes better, has a bigger can and it's cheape (for way more content) than Red Bull. It's easy to choose. Where I live, a monster can (500ml) is around €1.50, Red Bull costs €1.95 for 355ml
arconada Same and pretty often the Monster is on sale for 0.99 euro but for Red Bull its really rare to see.
Honestly, only reason why i still buy redbull instead of monster is that monster is so extremely sweet, while redbull has a more acidic taste to it
for me its 1€ for half a liter for monster while 2,69€ for redbull
I live in the UK monster is £1.55 and red bull is £1.25
I prefer the taste of Red Bull, there’s just something about it I love, I’d honestly drink it all the time if it weren’t for the caffeine and sugars
the aesthetics of the can are probably a bigger selling point than the drink itself, they look nice af

Hey fanta
Monster and Redbulls marketing is 2nd to none. They’re everywhere
Monster grew with no conventional advertising if i remember right
@Feel good Inc. monster does doe sponsorships deals. Plus here in the Netherlands for about 3 years strate monster textile merch was a must have for a lot of people. I think a portion of that crowd of people just liked the logo and the nice colours they use.
Early to mid 2000s monster logos were everywhere and kinda still are. You’d see monster hats, stickers, they’d sponsor extreme sports, it was fashionable to drink it for a while
Another tool to kill the nonJue.......
they don't do advertising but they do tons and tons of sponsorships and just are everywhere. at the music festival Louder than Life they have their flag on at least 2 of the 3 stages and they even have a booth set up where they give out whole cans for free. The only stipulation is that you have to drink it inside the boundaries of their booth (not 100% sure on the reasoning) and there's no limit per person. Just walk right up and they give you one. I know they're huge sponsors of the Van's Warped Tour, and they sponsor tons of other music events. Each of these festivals gets tens of thousands of attendees so that's a huge market they're advertising to. I think Red Bull advertises more to the extreme sports side of things and the music festival scene has been exploding recently while I think extreme sports are staying more or less the same and not growing near as much.
This sounds petty, but I actually *really* like the Zero Ultra for two reasons. One - it's a little less sweet than the other versions of Monster, and it isn't as "harsh".
The other is the textured can. I know that's a dumb reason to like a drink, but the little bumps make the can not feel slick when it gets condensation on it. I have *zero* clue why other manufacturers don't do this.
100% agree on this
I also like the texture can. I’m mostly a Reign guy, because I enjoy feeling like the Doom slayer after I down one in five minutes, but the balanced taste of Zero Ultta is really nice.
i love monster, most of the Ultra flavores are amazing, and i do enjoy Lemonade and Green Tea Rehab as well, i think its a much better caffeine source because i can just sit into a classroom and slowly sip away at it, no rush to drink the whole can in one. also think the flavor is just generally very diverse and enjoyable

Irn bru??
@@gui18bif Barrs A.G. make Rockstar energy drink in Scotland, they also used to make Irn-Bru 32 which had high caffeine content
Also from Scotland and I'm with you fridge is full of it! Remeber irn bru tried their 32 range and it just flopped haha
i will always remain a loyal monster fan!
I actually just love the taste of monster, energy drinks don't really do much for me but if it was just a soda I would be completely fine with that
They are pulling ahead because they constantly have deals that beat RedBull.
2 for 4.50 or 3 for 5.50
RedBull offers 3 8 ounce cans for like 7 bucks and Monsters are all 16 oz.
J Skyler rockstar has 5 for 5 for the 16 oz can btw
@@SkreetVette Really? havent seen it yet. just a 2 and 3 deal.
@@jskyler5422 pretty sure CVS has a 2 for 4$ deal going now
I didn’t know Monster also made Nos. That’s dope
Probabaly the best of áll of them...
Coca Cola makes NOS and Coca Cola bought Monster

That blue sky soda design is visually appealing
Monster energy drinks is why monsters are so scary and powerful
