Thank you! I worked for six months on the creation of contrabass duo. And spent a lot of time and effort to gather all of the contemporary techniques within a single composition.
Thank you for a very inspirering video! Is it important what kind of superball-mallet you use, or are they all the same? I especially think about the one around 1:50-> I really liked that effect. It seems somewhat similar to this one ua-cam.com/video/-HD0_3VeD5k/v-deo.html Do you think it is possible to use the same kind of mallets? (I have no experience with superball-mallets.)
Dear Vegar, Im sorry, I didn't see your comment. The size of the superball affects the sound. A larger ball makes a lower sound; a smaller ball makes a higher sound. As for the mallets you showed, they will do.
yes, like any friction this techniques also produces sound, but it's very quiet because the double bass has smooth strings. For this technique it is better to use electric bass. Look 02:42 -02:44: ua-cam.com/video/jRGrNDV2mKc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/_IY7XsVJIxo/v-deo.html But no fretless electric bass because it is also has smooth strings. A smooth type of string is used for fretless instruments because if you will use strings with a winding on a fretless bass, it will scratch the fingerboard. I hope you understand me. My English is not very good. All the best!
this is honestly the most helpful video for composers i've seen! thank you so SO much! i cannot wait to use some of these in my compositions!
You are welcome!
