Our Story:
We are five years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney
Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled
with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our
pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden
organically, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is
to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living
has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our
journey!

I love the additional comments of the wife, I have enjoyed your content and attention to details.
I and are enjoying your videos. I am 89 yrs old retired electrical engineer UF, 42 yrs civil service. Sorry to see you using rail ties. I have had bad experiences with termites after a few years. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.
Thanks for watching! Even the most treated wood will rot eventually but we will hopefully get 20 years out of these projects.
Rewatched: I like the way the roadbase looks on the ground! Great content as usual!
Most people don't put down road base, but we only want to build these driveways once! Thanks for watching.
I think you did an excellent job leveling it off!
You're being to hard on yourself.
GOD Bless
Thanks....I felt like it was taking too long. Thanks for watching!
Brad a land plane really works great on gravel driveways. Thanks for the good videos.
800' of our driveway is asphalt millings so that's not gradeable. The limestone that is in the next video tightens up....not sure a land plane would work on it. But I don't have one to try.
It's pretty well distributed.
I agree with Deb, it looks like dirt with little rocks 😊.
I will also wait for the final product.
It gets better!!! The final product looks really good!
Practice makes perfect, I think you did a great job Brad 👍🏻🙋🏼♂️🙂
Thanks Luc. I got it eventually, just not as efficient as I would like to be.
Consider a hydraulic top and drop link for your 3 point if you are going to do more of this kind of work.. works perfect to add or maintain a crown.. and air up the tires to the max as well.. it helps with the bouncing wave issue with the box blade.. you can also set your FEL to level and skim the gravel with it .. that in effect gives you a longer wheelbase.
Thanks for the tips and watching.
It looks like you have it pretty smooth. I am by far no expert at all, but I have found that if you tilt the blade back once you get a rough grade the front blade will be up a little and the back blade will be touching. Then I put by 3 point all the way down and the material will roll under the front blade and spread with the blade on the back of the box blade. So essentially I tilt my box blade forward to grab material and move it where I want it then I tilt the box blade back to feather it out at the end. It looks like you did a great job and I can't wait to see the finished product! Take care!
Thanks Justin. The biggest thing is when the tractor wheels hit a dip or bump and the blade digs in. It was a tight area to work, but we got it right eventually! Thanks for watching.
Looks good Brad. There is an art to tailgating gravel. The first driver was really slick at it. The second driver not so much. You dressed it up purdy good buddy.
It hung up in the bed bad for the second driver!! Thanks for watching!
Rewatched! Love the driveway work!
Nice job
If only we had a skid steer!!
Great video thank you guys
Glad you enjoyed it. We have several videos on our gravel projects....here's another one: ua-cam.com/video/Y3eNXzum-uQ/v-deo.html
You should check out Dave Knows How “How to use box blade” It’s really helped me understand how a box blade works. One the best videos I’ve found on it.
Keep up the good work, your place is looking great!
I understand it....I'm just not good at it!! Don't do it enough to get good either. Was glad when the this job was done.....the top coat gravel in the next video had me sweating!!
I find if I need to move material over material that is already down that I'm better off just to use the bucket.
For the box blade an addition to your tractor that is well worth the price is a hydraulic top link. This allows you to adjust how much the box blades scalps off the ground vs how much it releases at the touch of a button, while driving.
If you have to add an extra hydraulic function to make it work, you can help justify it by using it to control your new grapple (which is by far the most useful accessory, even though they aren't cheap).
We need rear and front remotes....one day maybe. Or just buy a new tractor!
Did you use float on the loader when backing up?
No. The tractor has it but I like to feather the loader and apply pressure to cut. I've tried float but never got the hang of it.
Man, I’m trying to get my RV pad right, I just got 22 tons of gravel today. He couldn’t really spread it with the truck because it was a tight area with a powerline above. Tried raking it by hand almost killed me. I need to get this thing before they deliver my metal Rv carport shed combo. Because they will not install it if it’s not level within 3 inches. And this red clay in NC is tough after the rain. Rented an excavator and did more harm than good. Need a tractor with wheels like yours. June 3 is deadline.
I think it looks good. You will get better with time
Thanks. Luckily, we don't have to do much boxblading at PG!
A, slow down a bit. B. control the spread rate with the draw bar hydrolics. C. go in more then one direction and the waves will go away.
Thanks for watching.
You did a fine job… you need a hydraulic top link 😁
I would need rear remotes first Hank!! We ain't all fancy at PG with our tractors like y'all. Thanks for watching.
My prediction: when you do eventually add a 3rd hydraulic function and a hydraulic top link (and a grapple) you will be kicking yourself for not buying them sooner....
Maybe you'll get enough UA-cam revenue to pay for them and will then be able to generate more UA-cam views showing how useful they are.
A box lasers definitely a good tool for that job
So many tools and implements we'd like to have!
My Kubota definitely is about empty at half a tank. I usually fill mine back up with diesel though. 😂 👊
That's why your lawnmower has no power!! Use the RED can next time brother!
Great Job!-
Thank you. We are happy with the driveway build!
Get you a cheap scraper blade, and set it at a 45* angle. Then move your material from one side of the driveway to the opposite, reverse and do the same. If you move material across your work surface with a blade at 45*'s you will eliminate your washboard effect. ;)
We've done some more gravel work since then: ua-cam.com/video/jvUWgklkTLA/v-deo.html
Let me help you out buddy. Take your mini out and use the float on the front blade. In reverse only
I'm really not that good with our mini!! Thanks for watching.
20 tons One truck no Try axle and then I realized after watching video it was two trucks.
40 tons total....give or take.
I don't mean to second-guess her and that there but it seems like she thinks she has some knowledge there but in no way would I recommend crushed granite for your job
A box blade is definitely good for a driveway that's already compacted where you can fill in the low spots, you can drag off the high spots in fill in the low spots a box blade is especially good for that, it would get kind of expensive to bring in a maintainer but that's the right way to Blade your driveway I would just take your time with a box blade and just practice you can make it work
Thanks for watching. The rest of the project here: ua-cam.com/video/MXSfiB7M-E4/v-deo.html
Well, we know which driver had the experience here.
Agree! Unfortunately we weren't available to capture the gravel which he spread.
Good job Brad. What you really need is a Landplane. You'll need to maintain your driveway and that will do the job perfectly.
Tractor hard!!
Thanks! Hoping maintenance is minimal!
