- First up the M/V Dennis T. Delaney then the David L. Fields and a brief view of the Frontier Express couldn't get anymore of the Frontier Express due to running out of battery. Thanks so much for watching! River chart of the area. www.mvr.usace....
Wow, that is the biggest towboat I have ever seen. And I never knew they were capable of doing such amazing things! What a beautiful place to work too!🧡🙏
People often forget about the Majesty of our nation's resources and how much we depend upon them. Your video captures a part of the spirit of 'ole man river, the mighty Mississippi 🙏🙏🙏 This waterway is as alive as we are and deserves our reverence and protection.
Was on the USCGC CHENA in Hickman Kentucky. A river tender for buoys and shore aids. Very interesting having to plan setting buoys depending on upcoming River stages. We covered from Cairo, Illinois to River Sticks Arkansas, but been on Mississippi from St Louis down to Morgan City on the CHENA and up the Ohio a ways. Fun times on the helm of that boat for hours at a time.

Gulf of Mexico down Galveston
taught me plenty back in the 50's
Shrimpermen & Magnolia Oil Co.
Now know as Moble Oil.
Land was dirt cheap after a hurricane 1903. My grand father's
bought land #1in Seabrook the other in Galveston. Its Allways been Big waters for me Aloha's from the Hawaiian Isls, still fishing.
Great video! We had a good time on the David L. Fields watching you hover outside of the wheelhouse. Some of the guys were taking videos of your drone while you filmed our boat.
Here I thought the guy was about to whip out a shotgun or call some feds. It's awesome these guys were in good spirits
I love shooting down drones just to piss off the inconsiderate a holes who feel the need to invade personal space. I’m the “other “ side of the story, 😂
Wow, I see you too. Just wanted to say thanks. She looks withered and tired. Many moons seeking my fortune in the mud of her banks.
Thank you!
The tugs in your video are wonderful pieces of equipment. Crews should have great pride in how beautifully maintained their vessels are. I have seen them on the railcam at Fort M, but never this close with such clarity! Nice
Nice views
Pipe dream electrics will never replace these awesome workhorses!
Electric motors produce more torque and are less likely to fail under load. The pipe dream was thinking that those holes in the ground would produce oil forever. Furthermore it seems that the US is obsessed with pipe dreams of both opioids and oil even if those dreams kill them and everyone around them. Keep on fracking in the free world buddy!
Electric Barges. What will they think next? Pipe dream for sure. What could go wrong?
@@LCdonkeyshow what are you talking about? Electric engines have been used by and preferred by large industries since they were invented. You do realize that train engines are electric. Clearly the issue at the moment is power storage but that is obviously being solved. You’ve seen electric vehicles on the roads for decades in the form of hybrids, did they all fail? Honestly, It seems like both of you have no idea what’s going on in the world. Are you hold up in the hills with a lifetime supply of gas where you haven’t been aware of the past 100 years.
@@LCdonkeyshow they are most likely diesel electric like a locomotive more efficient that way.
@@andrewward1887 right. I was just commenting on the woke thought of making them 100% electric, which would never work.
Thanks for this great video. When we lived in Memphis we would often go down to the river on our days off and sometimes up the river near St Louis and always enjoyed just watching the tugs. Always do relaxing and peaceful! Felt like the good ole days watching this vid felt like we were there
All over again.
Pretty cool seeing that towboat working on the Mississippi River! The first is from my home state, Wilmington, DE! Your drone flew flawlessly! Thanks for sharing!
Think they are just registered in Delaware because of registration fees
Nice vid of that huge island! I worked for Ingram back in the 80’s and tripped up and down from Kansas City to New Orleans and never saw it out of the water so far. Amazing. I live south of Natchez a ways near St Francisville, LA and yeah the water is as low as I’ve ever seen it. Could almost chunk a rock across now. We have a few islands but none even close to that rock. Thanks for the views!
A great vid Bowzer, showing off how low the big muddy has gotten.
Here is another vid idea [if you want to] a trip to see what is left of the old USS Integral. You have a way of bringing the river to view for everyone to see & appreciate.
Cleanest boats of any sort I've seen, they must take great pride in working them.
Water level is back up, cutting off Tower Rock from the shore line this Oct. 30th.
Wish I had a dollar for everytime I went buy Tower Rock! I worked for Wisconsin barge line, Alter and Arrow Transportation. In the 80s after getting out of the Navy in 80. Love the videos, great memories.
Hey Brian I worked for Arrow also back in the early 80's. Remember Sam Ryan?
@@2bigbufords I do, You remember Capt Byrd and the mighty Robin?? Lol I worked on the Missouri River mostly but got up the Tennessee regularly. Spent a little time in Sheffield Alabama.
@@Mach11976 I sure do remember Byrd, I was as steersman under him. Rest his soul he died on the river working for another company after Arrow sold all their boats
He and his wife came to my wedding
@@2bigbufords Would you be from Tennessee by chance?
Kind of what Q said when they said watch the water! Lake mead, Mississippi, Euphrates, colorado river, 3 gorges dam! All at record lows! And then flooding everywhere else!!!!
Very cool video, thanks for this and to the barge crew's for doing such a great job too.
What a happy find discovering this channel! Subscribed straight away!
Thank you!
Nice and steady shots , no stomach trauma. Much appreciated 👍
I used to work on a tugboat and I loved it I used to say it was like a slow bus trip through beautiful places but you're floating and working hard as heck. Those are some beautiful barge pushers.. as my lil boy call's them😊... Great footage... Yup, she low but flow is fine....
plenty of water, just another scare tatic to raise prices to raise profite for the big guys out there.
"Why, I remember when the Mississippi creek used to be a river"' ~ Old guy in the future
Recalling when, as a 10 year old kid who often walked and roamed the nearby
banks of the Ohio River, while walking
Toy the small herding dog, and watching them on the Ohio River just below the Captain Anthony Meldahl Locks and Dam which are located ~2 miles upriver of Neville, OH. They are beautiful and powerful marine assets!
So I am confused.....who do I believe, the ones who say sea levels are dropping and we will all die of thirst or the ones who say we will all be under water next Tuesday.
It’s easy, just call it climate change and whatever happens say … “ see I told you so “
Very nice drone footage 👍🏼🇺🇸👍🏼
I've done it a few times in my life. It's nothing new. But it is sad when the water gets low!
That boat there at the end is an oldie.
Excellent job. Love this so much!
Beautiful vid! Thanks for sharing.
Upper Mississippi
North West Illinois
We got ton of rain today, and its supposed to rain through tomorrow.
If Mark Twain could see that ship! He’d be amazed.
GRA 8 ONE. THANX AGAIN. WE LUV 'EM
Damn fine work! Thanks.
I've never seen people walk to tower rock before.
On the David L. Fields I couldn’t see what was in the starboard row of barges. On the last tow I couldn’t read the tug’s name or see the tow at all. Some footage of the fleeted barges would be nice.
Wow. What a cool dream job to have. Some fun rock climbing.
Passed many times on the Elizabeth Dewy back in the WKN days. Back then the big muddy stayed flooded.
I've been up there for family reunions before but never seen old Miss that low.
Surprised the Captain didn’t take out the drone with his shotgun. He was probably worried about it getting into his Marine Radar System. That would had been my worry if it was me.
I bet it is a captains nightmare when another tow is headed your way in this low river level!
Mark Twain's comments in his literary works about navigating the Mississippi what with fluctuations, debris, and sandbars, etc always interested me. I think at one time he wanted to be a river boat pilot.
@@janetprice85 I have heard the same thing, but don't know if it is true. That deserves a little research.
I worked on these boats for years. One time I filled a pot with a gallon of Dawn and threw it in the wheel wash above Memphis. There were bubbles as far as you could see. 😂
Not good for the water life in it!
PERRY COUNTY MISSOURI ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER
Wow, I can't believe how low the river is in this footage. Been out to Tower Rock many times with friend that live in the area, but never seen where you could walk out to it.
Kool vid Bowzer Towboat Company, thanks.
Wow those Tesla batteries are sure powerful on that river tug-wonder where the plug in to recharge-maybe they have found a way to capture static electricity from the churning water behind the tug -Genious
Great video! What drone are you flying and what camera is it? Great quality!
WOW! Thanks for sharing
That's crazy how low the water is
Thank you for sharing your beautiful video. New subscriber here
I'm on the lower Mississippi and its strange to see it so low. We have ship traffic getting very tight.
All this water stuff going on is strange, like the water shooting out of the desert in some Arab areas and the Euphrates, the rate of odd water occurrences is getting weird and there’s probably more then that, that I just don’t know about.
This might be the calm before the storm ⛈
When does the dredging begin?
wow river pirates used to wait on tower rock for traders to rob.. Also this is the smallest government landmark in the United States.. I use to live down by Grand Tower Ill.
Mark Twain days. Lol!
Was it spooky as hell when you lived there? The weird stuff I saw there in the bottoms and along the bluffs.
Hard to believe.
On the bright side we all have fresh clean drinking water to flush out toilets
I really enjoyed you video
I see the landscape. I've heard scientists mention Memphis is an ancient volcano bed. Judging by the landscape it's overwhelming to see. It looks formed by a volcano.
Great job
The comment section is missing the point: What exactly is Tower Rock?
It's clearly a very old structure that has lost its image over time, worn away by eons of erosion. Now solidified into rock by calcification etc, it sticks out like a sore thumb, defying the attempts by whomever to brush it off as "ancient stuff"
I used to relamp that pipe line bridge way back when, guess my eyes were always focused on my steps on that pipe to notice Toer rock was just down stream.
Is the fat white line on tower rock where the water height was originally, or historically? I live by the mouth of the Columbia River ,Oregon side and cannot imagine the water getting so low here. Incredible drone footage! Thanks So Much
Great audio! At 1:54 you can hear a pileated woodpecker!
Wow, you really got good eyes on your camera
Where is this filmed at? I’ve lived on the Miss River all my life never heard of this place
Grand tower Illinois north of Cape and south of Chester

What state is this?
I worked for Material Service tow boats (Crown family) out of Lockport, IL back in the late 70's 79-80?
When the Mississippi River becomes like the Grand Canyon and nobody gets across by land. I’ve seen it in a dream a couple of years ago.
Seems to me that your dream is coming to Fruition. I believe in dreams.
@@chinho1348 I do believe in the warnings that dreams can provide, but we must pray for discernment from the Holy Spirit because not all dreams come through the LORD JESUS CHRIST. I do feel that this dream along with some others that I have had as well as dreams that others have had are warnings because it is written that JESUS will return, and the Biblical signs are everywhere throughout the world. Peace and Blessings!
I loved the video I thought that the guy who kept opening the door was gonna let the drone and us fly on in.. amazing! Who is David Fields? he has a nice ship! loved it keep on flying...
I live along the Ohio river and it’s normal stage here. I don’t understand why the corps of engineers is running the Mississippi at low levels. Is there a story behind it?
Slow commerce, cause fear, drive inflation, makes all the stupid people vote the way they want. Im sure biden is slowing down water flow, even though he cant figure out where he is at any given point. But hey srupid people will believe anything
Yes it's called Joe Biden
@@dalemarshall625 let's be real Joe Biden is merely a head on a body. He isn't involved with or make any sort of decisions!
It's called North Korea
Are they manipulating water level to convince people of catastrophic climate change?
Why do you record the audio from the drone?
Hey, here’s a great idea. Why not give it a good, scraping and cleaning out while it’s empty just in case one day, maybe it flows again or maybe just to clean it out in get it all picked up pretty good at the state
How high up on the Mountain was the original water level?
So if the water that low, why not clean out the river???
wow!! sounds like bees!
Where is that tower located. What town is close
Is tower rock the old starved rock re named?
Amazing
Great channel, I really enjoy it, THANK YOU for not stinkin it up with dumb music .👍👍👍
The title here is 3 towboats, but I watched the whole thing and saw the Dennis T Delaney. Only one.
Marquette transportation, Michigan?
All these Rivers have two ends there's a scientific reason why they're all drying up but no one wants to share the reason for some reason
Well I don't believe that the rivers are drying up. This is a drought we've had droughts before. I do believe though that the solar cycle has more to do with our weather than we do . I've been on this earth a long time and this will change. I see no reason to fear the weather we have enough other problems to concern ourselves with.
What is that barge carrying?
COAL still powers the Electric Power Plants on the river(s).
@@haroldjones9321 - TY
And they wanted to take water to help the west? Didn't realize the Mississippi was this low? Hope everyone who needs rain or snow melt gets some help this fall and winter
is barge shipping more cost effective than rail? I really don't know. But a train would be hauling at more than 4mph. Maybe something about the locations?
Barge rates are cheaper than rail plus barges can carry more.
A barge is way more cost effective.
Is the Mississippi still mighty ? 💧
Tho8ght it was super low?
Spent 13 years on the river. Last year's as a mate for Ingram
I've seen that tug farther up the Illinios River!
Wonder what will happen to barge companies with all of the coal plants shutting down left and right?
It was dry for thousands of years in order for the mud to turn to Rick in the first place .I think it looks better dry myself .
i wonder if people are climbing it?
how was tower rock made?
Very cool island in the beginning.
Ancient volcano tube?
Nice but where is this?
In Missouri south of St Louis
25 miles north of Cape Girardeau Mo. on Mississippi River
What will Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn recognize the way back home ?
Water is being diverted folks we need to put a stop to these bureaucratic criminals the only way to end this craziness.
Last week the Gods said this would not be possible (walking out there) due to rain. Those Gods are wrong
Awesome!
Can we just make a bunch of barges using tractor inner tubes and steel bins???? The money it would take to make it and the time it would take to make it wouldn't be as much as they're losing a day??? Float on top of the water instead of trying to push through it
Where are the TUG boats all I saw was PUSH BOATS
A group of Barges is called a Tow, so actually the vessels pushing them are called Tow Boats...... not Tugs or Push boats.
They are operating at reduced capacity because of shallow river channels.
do people ever shoot at your drone?
I can't imagine a kid with a bb gun could resist.
So if climate change is melting the ice caps and sea levels are rising, explain where all that watter is going.
Hi Scott- one theory maybe from a commenter on this video ( I viewed it soon after it was posted to UA-cam I think) is that caverns created by oil and gas extraction are filling up with river or lake/ ground water. Never heard of this possibility before so assuming you might be interested.

The preacher man says it's the end of time
And the Mississippi River, she's a-goin' dry
