Why is it that everybody calls these pushers "Tow-boats"? They are made to push and not to tow. Just look at the back, there is not a single place to attach a rope or cable
@@TheMrdavidlangley I like these videos shows me who is at the top in my industry. I tried to run a big boat but it scared the heck out of me. I'll stick to my little boats under 5k hp.
Thanks for watching Bowzer. I will be making videos again soon. Times are tough on me right now. Lost my Mother on September 11th. She passed away right after "The Price Is Right". Thanks again Bowzer and have a very nice day.
They need to try working on a "Real" towboat. What they're riding on is a luxury hotel. Come out and do what real towboaters do and tell me how you like it. After years out here in the engine room and I gotta speak for deckhands that actually do work, frankly it sucks! End of story.
Erika. Looks like a real tow boat to me. Jealousy detector going off. Obviously it's in much better shape, much larger & more comfortable than the canoe you work on. LOL Bottom line if your job sucks you have 2 choices, stay or leave. Enjoy your day on the SS Minnow, Gilligan. 😃
The reply from Bob Smith is obviously from someone who doesn't have a clue. For your information I am a degreed heavy equipment mechanic for over 27 years and worked on the river for over 20. Ive been on some of the toughest rivers to deal with mentally (worrying) that you can imagine. Constant 4 to 5 mph current is no picnic! I don't engineer a tug,I am always on full fledged towboats with more responsibility than the average person deals with. Not saying I'm a know it all and Lord of the river but just saying ive done my time and don't deserve to be slighted by someone who doesn't know who the hell I am and what I do. And by the way I have no assistant and I do a hell of alot more than pushing a pencil or plunking on a laptop. I am required to do everything unlike other outfits that call someone in.
I’m butting in where I don’t belong, bros, and I don’t know anything about the river and these vessels other than what I can watch on UA-cam. I’m guessing it may be a question of ‘horses for courses’. I’ve watched boats pushing more barges against that flow - and ice too - and imagined the power and skill involved. Watching this one, I guess it’s work is servicing infrastructure along the river; hosting stakeholders in the river economy and life; as well as ‘flying the flag’. Around the coast of the UK, Trinity House maintains buoyage, navigation lights, lighthouses etc. Its vessels won’t have huge energy requirements, but Erik’s vessel will. I only drive a 15 ton narrowboat along England’s canals at 3mph max. with 35hp of push and my good wife as crew. She’s the one with the energy requirement, winding the lock handles, pushing and pulling those lock gates single-handed and running herself ragged while I do a little exercise with the tiller and throttle dreaming of skippering the vessels I watch on UA-cam pushing the mighty Mississippi. Respect and best wishes.

Noticed two things. It doesn't fly an American flag astern, I assume it's an American registered vessel though. Never can tell; the Chinese own everything here now. They are flying a red two star military general officer on board flag, so I'd speculate this is a high ranked poo-bah and family on a river picnic cruise. The barge is big enough to barbecue a cow and set up tennis courts together. The video shows various levels of accommodation on the tow boat but doesn't show where the bar/cocktail lounge is; an absolute necessity for officers and guests.
Good thing the the Mississippi Towboat is going down river. Because the Mississippi River is on the rise again up here. That weed looks like to be a milk weed. Brake it to see any white stuff comes out only then it's a milk weed.👍😮🛳🚣😃
Yep, the river is coming up again. The city closed one of the gates downtown. I don't see any need to close the other one. I will be making videos again. It will take some time though. As you probably know from a comment I had made on facebook last month. Yes, my Mother did pass away. It has been very tough on me. She went soon after "The Price Is Right" was over. September 11th was the day. I do miss her very much. Thanks for watching guys. Your the best!!!!! Have a very nice day!
It's not marijuana, it's red root pigweed. Common farm weed found in many locations of the USA. Marijuana has a longer slender leaf with very pronounced serrated edges.
Hilarious. Guy must have just got a video camera or phone and had nothing better to do. Zooming in on license plates and people in vehicles, but the kicker was zooming in on a weed and saying he’s pretty sure it’s marijuana. 😂😂😂 Looks not even vaguely like pot.
That thing is so huge it's awesome.
It's pretty darn big. That's for sure. Thanks for watching Wally & Tony. Have a very nice day!
How longs the hitch
Thanks for watching. Don't know the answer to your question.
I got so much useful info from this.

Excellent observation and comment my friend. Take care and have yourself a very nice day.
Because a barge or group of barges are called a “tow”
What's the point of that boat? It only pushes around 2 flat barges, that's it?
Good comment. Thanks for watching. Have yourself a very nice day.
What a waste of taxpayers money!!!!!
Try 15,500HP for some of the bigger tugs, a lot more powerful than 6,600.
Hey thanks for watching and have yourself a very nice day.
I have seen it on the Mississippi River a few times.
Thanks for watching Andrew.

That barge you see is for ducks. They can swim over to the fuel station without getting wet.
Thanks for watching.
I would love to cook on that! All I did was ACBL and the 2600 boats, north of st louis.
And I just want to add that ACBL is like the Schnieder of the river.
Right on James. Thanks for commenting and have yourself a very nice day.
Love that boat! Thanks for posting David! And I don't think that is marijuana just some other kind of weed lol.

Why do Americans call them Towboats when in reality they are pushing all of the time?
The music is over the top and it’s not a tow boat.

It's owned by the Army Corps Of Engineer's.Which is part of the US Government.
Vessels operating between US ports are covered by the Jones Act, which requires they be US-built, -owned, -registered and -crewed.

The river gage is like a roller coaster!!!

6300 horsepower, i don't think mo powah baby is needed here. Those are just some really big numbers
Thankyou for watching. Have yourself a very nice day.
I ride a a boat that makes 10,500 those are small numbers in the towing industry
Please STOP that music.

Not the largest towboat at all !
Yes it is. In "FACT", it's the largest one on "EARTH"!!!
Thanks for watching and have yourself a very nice day.
What is the largest then
Somebody’s never seen a weed plant lmao
What was the purpose of this video? Big boat that did nothing of interest.
That looks nothing like marijuana... not even a little bit. I promise u it’s not, cool vid though
Thanks for watching Tanner. Have yourself a very nice day!
They really know how to waste our tax dollars.
You’re ignorant
not a pot plant, goofball.
