This is the greatest Soul Sax Player long before smooth jazz etc. This is truly a Soul Instrumental Classic for everyone who grew up in the 60s.
Jr. Walker is the best!!
Sport67
The raw style of this R&B classic is brilliant with smooth jazz-like background.
Agree!
I saw him play this at the Howard theater in '65 and he always seem to be dancing when he was playing like he was happy. Was a bad show, with Gladys Knight singing Giving Up and Chuck Jackson singing Any Day Now. Wow we don't know how good we had it back then, WOW.
bigdadday bubblejomay I was in the audience too. Maybe the only white kid there. I went to the Howard theater at least once a month in 64, 65. Four to five great artists each night for around $2.75. And they didn't chase you out after the first show so you could stay and watch the same artists a second time.
Yes, the music produced in the 60 & 70 set a high bar to follow & only a few are matching there creativity.

110% agreed
From Deep Purple and Zepplin to Little Feat and the Staples and Santana...... and on an on.
Now???? Beyoncé???? Mmmm. It’s not the Doors or the Doobies or Eagles
I got to stop now
Our public pool had stairs up to a flat roof. There was a big dance floor and a jukebox. One summer night, I played this song by mistake. A few of the kids knew how to cha cha and started teaching the rest of us. For the rest of the summer, that song got played at least four times a night and the dance floor would fill with kids lined up doing the cha cha. Not with partners, just in lines. I think we invented the line dance.
Jr walker was great. I love this song.
Oh my! Who can live without this music???
one of my favorites of jr. walker
i simply love this kind of sweet soul
My favourite Junior Walker lyric less song it brings back so much memories!
Listen to Junior's instrumental "Ame Cherie". It's pure magic.
How fortunate we were to have grown up listening to this wonderful music compared to the "crap" that is being played now. Jr. was one of those rare artists that never made a bad recording...just the very best!
I used to wear this 45...OUT. I remember when my parents used to have house parties when I was little, and this was one of the songs that would get the most play...talk about 'back-in-the-day!'
A wondrous infusion of soul, funk, blues and jazz. I was privileged to see the great man perform live at Tolworth in Surrey back in the early 1980s. He deserved a bigger audience.
Absolutely, he was so much underrated.
I used to love these guys when growing up. They had their own style their own little thing.
Loved his sound. It was Jr. who got me into playing overtones on the sax. I have a 9th above the natural range and with a good reed, I can add another 4th. There were so many good musicians back in the day who never really got their due. I think Jr was one of them.
Just imagine that the cats such as Junior Walker, King Curtis, Sil Austin, Red Prysock, Earl Bostic, Louis Jordan... were popping out Altissimo Overtones since...way back when - the 50s and 60s.
Junior's altissimos A, D and super G sound clear, clean and bright.
He has had a beautiful tone and style which have been personalized.
I can recognize his sound-voice very audibly and distinctly.
Although Junior has been more of a soulful, Pop instrumentalist, Junior's saxophone sound-voice quality can be heard descending and ascending from the saxophones of such jazz icons as Wilton Felder, and Ronnie Laws; the former with exotic bellicosity; the latter, with romantic smoothness.
Junior Walker has been winning fans from North and South America, European and West Indies, Africa and Asia - no ordinary feat to accomplish.
He has effectively integrated his saxophonic dexterity with his vocal artistry.
Oh, how we'd dance the night away to: These Eyes, What Does It Take, Hold on To The Feeling, Shot Gun...!
Junior Walker, RIP! Wilton Felder, RIP!
Michael Breaker, RIP!
Bob Berg, RIP!
Thanks for reminding us what a great saxophonist and wonderful person Junior Walker has been.

AND STILL NOT IN THE RNRHIF ! A CRYING SHAME!
I'M glad I read your comment I forgot about Earl Bostic. I love his music. He's no joke
My mother’s favorite
He was sososo sososo sososo bless
One of THE GREATEST that epitomized SOUL.
Jr Walker and King Curtis were great tenor sax players that fellow players try to reach cause they were as good as it gets!
Again, Motown Records were always the best at Top & Bottom hits...Hot Cha was the flipside of Shotgun.
still have that record
Best instrumental ever by JR!
OK this is the jam! My older sister could not hear this song and not do the dance..."Walkin the Dog"...LOL! She was sooo funny! She's a sweet Christian lady now...but I know the truth! LOL!!! Love you sis.
No body can't never ever take his place
Monkey Jump!
One of the best turntable hits.
There is only one Junior. Attention young blood musicians with a hole in your soul seeking delverance, THIS IS WHAT A GOOD BAND SOUNDS LIKE. Keep it in your memory and replicate,,,no AI cannot duplicate.D
He was sosososo brilliant
In Arthur Conley's remake of Sam Cooke 's "Yeah! Yeah!" into "Sweet Soul Music", Arthur paid tributes to Wilson Pickett with his "Mustang Sally", to Otis Redding with his "Fa Fa Fa...", to Lou Rawls, and to James Brown as the "King of Them All".
Oh, how could he have been so remiss (and neglectful) of Junior Walker who was effectively and appreciably multitasking!
Stratospherically and hauntingly "tenor "saxing", soulfully singing, dancing and interacting pleasingly with the audience was Junior Walker - truly the "hardest" working entertainer in "showbiz".
The Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York saw how he literally took the audience off its feet with his energetic and crowd-pleasing performances - non stop!
JW:RIP!
This is so so so good n make me feel good all over do your song gentlemen wow love it 💕💖💕
Fond memories are evoked. Notice that the guitarist creates a balance between playing segments of the melody with Walker and yet settling for a strumming role for the latter at other moments. So, it should not be a surprise that although the tenor saxist was the featured player, it was guitarist Willie Woods who composed the sweet-and-simple 16 bars.
Guitarist Willie Woods, September 5, 1936 - May 27, 1997
Hi Richard, I am a guitar player in Los Angeles and I basically learned R&B guitar by listening to Booker T and the MGs and Junior Walker. i particularly liked his guitarist Willie Woods even though all the band were at the top of their game ,and I wore out the records copying his stuff. Sounds easy but take a lot of time to get it right. Know what? It was worth it. DD in L.A.
@@davedoyle9623 Hi Dave, and many thanks for your reply that speaks of your development as a guitarist. Along with Willie Woods, you made mention of Booker T & the MGs which reminds me of the name Steve Cropper.
Sincerely,
Richard Fletcher
Ooooohhhhh! Sweet!!!
This or Junior Walker's other jam, "Last Call..." perfect songs to end your band set or radio show!
The best ever!
What a song!! Good memories from Puerto Limon in the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, 1966.
Melvin
Fab theme
A lot of memories and some great sax playing--thanks
I remember first hearing Juniors guitar player play that diminished chord sliding up the neck 4 times on this tune. Real greasy!!! Thats how I learned how to really use the diminished chord. Thanks Allstars!!!
My teenage days priceless ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
great beach song
love this sound
thanx
not heard this before, so thanku, it's brill, love the sax .
I'd love to be able to play .
Yes.I do remember those things and times.-,💯
thanks for posting ..awesome music
It's about time somebody put this up. Greatly appreciated miramax911. Great stuff. good for reminiscing.
This was the background theme used when Lloyd Fatman Smith was huckstering (WHAT-AM 1340) used (abused) cars on his "Plymouth Chrysler Auto Auction Show" on behalf of a used car dealer on the Oxford Circle in Northeast Philadelphia in the late sixties. The show was to stimulate sales as the radio "sales" was not legally binding, it was entertaining though.
Damn, haven't heard the name Lloyd Fatman in a minute. He used to play trumpet a little bit and he would be downstairs from the radio booth at 1am in a bar sitting in with the band and the record would be on the turntable upstairs spinning over and over, the needle repeating in the deadwax. Lloyd was a character.
Man those were the best times for radio in Philly from listening to Sonny Hopson on WHAT 1340AM and Lloyd Fatman, Charlie Brown, and of course Georgie Woods.Larry Daily, Kae Williams.Jimmy Bishop Butterball over on WDAS AM1480
Just listening over stay cos it's ROCKING ENROLLING SOUNDS GOOD TO ME WONDER IF YOU LIKE IT.
Oh Yeah! Nicely done, gracias
Nice 2024
Keep it greasy guys,,,keep it greasy,,,,Miss you Junior,,,,
I have been searching for this, thanks. BTW how did you ever find this?
🎵Tuff🎷soulful🎷man✊🏾
Thanks for your comment, much appreciated!
this is hot!!
Is that Bill Clinton at 1:32?
If it is, he is playing the same riff that he played both times he was on the Tonight Show.
💋
We used to stop for chasers at the"Hilltop in Monroe on the way to the beach & play this on the jukebox & SHAG!
Even now, you can still stop at Hilltop Oyster Bar on Wednesday nights and ask DJ Richard of 'The Dancin' DJs', Susie & Richard, to play it for you!!
the dance the shag i presume .
The dance, INDEED, is the Shag! If you stop by, I'll be glad to play Hot Cha for ya. In fact, all 3 bands that I was in as a teenager played Hot Cha. No, I didn't play the sax, but I played the keyboard ride note-for-note!!
You didn't say what year "used to" was, but Spiro did a complete remodel in '07, and the restaurant looks NOTHING like the old greasey spoon Esso station that it was.......
those was the jams back in my days. still love to hear them.
This is the flip side of Shotgun, correct? I know just funning.
"Hot Cha" is musicians slang for your really hot numbers ?
cha chya
