    I've had a Dillon Square Deal for well over 20 years. I have load 1000s of rounds with that machine. In the very, very few times anything has gone wrong or broken, Dillon has stood by their warranty with NO questions asked. Dillon has even sent parts to update my old reloader to be compatible with the newer version at no charge. Dillon is a top notch Company with outstanding products.

    No need to lube the pistol cases...but, I do find a difference while reloading, the action is much more smoother (as you would expect). I prefer it.

      When using a spray-on case lube, is there much risk of fowling the powder with any lube that may enter the cases?

    • @brassmen7464
      @brassmen7464  9 років тому +6

      xxHydroponicxx I've reloaded about 6000+ 9mm to date, and haven't had a problem with one single round. Again, I only use a very small amount of the case lube. (Maybe 1-2 squirts per 200 cases)

    • @myomai
      @myomai 8 років тому +5

      I use a small drop of Frog Lube and once per 500 rounds I smear it a full circle around the middle of the brass. Much easier to size and once a 2000 rounds I do the same around the crimp before the crimp tool.

      I also lube pistol cases for easier reloading. I use a home-brew lube of liquid lanolin and alcohol. After loading, I tumble the rounds in untreated corn cob media to get rid of the lube.

    • @xenonram
      @xenonram 4 роки тому +2

      Yes, Dillon says you don't need lube when using their carbide dies, but a tiny amount of case lube is good. Case lube is water based, and the tiny whisper you put on, won't foul the powder. Then you don't need to remove the lube at the end, like the guy above me does. (But he's probably not using carbide dies.)

    I know this is a little OCD but the end product is not a bullet. It is a round or a cartridge. A bullet is a projectile (those metal objects you put into your bullet tray), while a cartridge is the package consisting of the bullet, primer, and casing containing gunpowder (a round or a cartridge).
    Great video. I have been looking at maybe buying a Dillon.

    Nice video. I used to crimp but than I found out 9mm head spaces off the edge so you only need to "crimp" to remove the flare. I would also reduce flaring, it seems excessive. What I ended up is getting NOE expander instead, it's so much better! Instead of creating a funnel that gets dragged on the die edges of your seating die (you can see inside it's all yellow) it partially expands the case top so you can seat the bullet with your fingers straight and that's another advantage is that your bullet will always go up in to the die straight more concentric, better accuracy.

  • @Rickie53

    You lube pistol cases??????????? Lol I hit mine with a little Hornady one shot and go. It definitely does make sizing smoother. Probably more noticeable for me right now, as I use a ultra cheap Lee single stage press, like $25 on cheaper than dirt. Gotta love being a relatively broke college student. 3.8gr of titegroup was exactly what I was using when I got some 124gr bullets on the cheap. Normally I load 115gr for 9mm tho and if I recall right i'm using like 4.3gr of titegroup for that I think, maybe 4.5, but definitely no more than that. Cant wait for the day I pick up a Dillon.

    • @xenonram
      @xenonram 4 роки тому +1

      So... You lube your cases too.

  • @Physics072
    @Physics072 4 роки тому

    I use H-6 w 9mm 6.4 gr. Hodgdon Titegroup only fills the case 49 percent at 3.8 gr. You must use to squeak more rounds per pound of powder. HS-6 its harder to over fill and reach dangerous levels. just 5gr of titegroup and you will be over 37000 psi and the Dillion alarm might not go off as its not close to double charge.

  • @mbm887

    I really enjoyed your video. This is the second one I watched that one of your parts is being miss identified.
    There are 4 units needed to make 1 bullet only.
    Unit 1- primer 2- casing 3- powder 4- ball-- the ball that you refer to as bullet is nothing, it is just a ball. The complete assembly is a bullet.
    The press that you were using is amazing.
    I was special forces (Navy) 19 yrs
    Terminology must be used accordingly.

    • @julieopp
      @julieopp 7 років тому

      Really?

    • @Elektra711
      @Elektra711 7 років тому +1

      The complete assembly is a "cartridge", the bullet is the projectile. Calling the whole assembly a bullet is a misnomer and often used as a colloquial reference to a cartridge. Bullet and ball are the same thing. Ball as you are using it is military terminology for "ball ammo." Bullet comes from the french "boulet" which means ...wait for it...."small ball." He is correct in his terminology.

    First thing I noticed, you are wearing safety glasses. I preach this every time I comment on you tube reloading video's. Can't stress enough you only have one set of eye's. Kudo's to you for wearing them!
    Second thing I noticed is how neat and clean your entire work area is, a place for everything and everything in it's place. Nice tip on adding only enough powder to do the number of rounds you intend to load. And your lighting set up is very zoot.
    I have one question about your system Sir. Do you wipe the loaded rounds off after you finish a loading session? I do agree that lubing cases, even with carbide dies is the best way to go, however I read a comment on another web page that dropping a lubed round in a case checker can leave residue inside eventually causing you to get false readings. Not sure if that is true or not, just something I read on another post.
    Above all, thank you for taking time to make and share your video. Everything about it is easy to understand and very professional.

    • @brassmen7464
      @brassmen7464  9 років тому +8

      Hey John, Safety First right. You lose your eyes and this great sport of ours won't mean anything if we can't see. Thanks John for your comments, very appreciated. Your right, thats the only thing i found is after about 200 rounds through by Case Gauge, they seem to get stuck a bit. My solution was just to clean it with a regular Q-tip. Then re-test the same round and 10 out of 10 times its fine. I guess just a bit of dirt gets built up inside the hole. But cleaning it does the trick. Cheers

    Suggestion. Zero your scale with the primed brass casing on the scale. Load the brass casing with powder and weigh. Weight the brass casing that is now loaded with powder. No "stuck" or "lost" grains of powder to throw the weight off.

    When you use the caliper, you want to take the measurement at the tips when possible (where the tapered area is).

    • @xenonram
      @xenonram 4 роки тому

      No, I don't know who told you that. The tapered area is for getting into tight places. When you use calipers, you want to measure it as far into the throat as you can. This reduces the moment that is applied to the calipers and gives you a more accurate reading. Further out on the caliper, like a seesaw, you can gain more leverage, and get a smaller reading more easily. Also, the bladed area of the calipers allows you to introduce rock into whatever you're measuring and you may come up with a larger than actual reading. It's harder to tell if the piece you're measuring is square/perpendicular to the faces of the caliper. I'm a machinist and have worked with calipers, micrometers, DTIs, and CMMs for quite a while. (Although not anymore.)

    Quick question Do you de-prime your cases before reloading them on the 650 or de-prime then clean then reload them after checking the Primer pockets for cleanliness

      Hey Terry, Actually for used Brass Cases, I just clean them first in the tumbler, and then they get de-primed during the first step of reloading, they have been fine. Cheers

    It comes already specific for 9mm? Or do you need to set it up like for lever of powder coming out ?

    What manufacturer makes the pistol primer tube loading tool. That one looks built better than others I have seen on the market.

    Any chance you could tell me the dimensions of the footprint of the full set up? I'm trying to figure out where I want to put mine, but am having a hard time finding a good spot for it. I'm going to be working in a confined space, so I am asking around for anyone that is willing to help out and measure theirs. Thank you in advance if you answer!

    What do you do, if you find the ammunition doesn’t fit in the gauge after reloading?
    Can it be disassembled and reused?
