Travis, thank you for taking the time. I’m still confused. I’ll have to study it a bit more, but I’m very interested in learning futures. You offer the best value out of all the channels out there in terms of platform use and education.
We're always happy to help! We'll be releasing a new Future Forecast tomorrow to go more in depth with this tutorial! Thank you so much for your kind words!
Thank you for this video, could you please do another video on how to place the orders, see how you choose the contract, placed limit and stop limit etc.
@Trade Confident this is a great video, but as a new trader, I'm left with one question. When I want to start a long or a short with a stop loss, is it actually 2 separate trades that get entered? Is there any way that you could make a follow up video on Coinbase where you actually place a trade with a stop loss?
Hey there, great question! A trade consists of an entry and an exit, so its more like the second part of a trade! We don't actively trade futures so we may have to put that request on the backburner, but we will let you know if that changes! Here's a link from Coinbase with a full description: www.coinbase.com/learn/advanced-trading/order-types
Stop limit is for setting a "floor" (or "ceiling") to define a range of max loss (or gains). You can always manually complete the transaction before the price crosses the stop limit price set. The stop limit is to execute a trade automatically when you are AFK.
14:05 Ohhhhh but if you want to set a price where your long position sells to complete the transaction, you add a "sell" order using the "stop limit". Buy/Long stop limits are how you set the "loss floor" so you can limit your risk and make sure you don't get cleaned out by a flash crash.
Beginner here. Quick question… How can I close my position on the weekend while the market is closed? Coinbase won’t give me the option to “close position”
@@TradeConfident I don't understand this either, CB doesn't show an active chart but says "Futures markets are closed, but orders can be queued. Trading resumes in 1 day, 18 hours, 32 minutes" so i assume you close out your contract every Friday/weekend?

(CBI) spot account to meet the margin requirements to maintain your futures positions, we may automatically liquidate some or all of your futures positions. We will first cancel open spot and futures orders and then liquidate open futures positions in the CFM futures account to satisfy margin requirements."
Can you explain more of how trading futures work? I don't understand it works entirely. So let's say you bet its going down, and BTC tanks by 10%, can you just exit right away? Or do you have to wait until the end of the day for the final result to be determined? What does 6pm to 5pm mean? Like you can buy and sell freely during that time and its like spot trading? Please clarify.
Thank you very much. I have the in-dept knowledge about leverage trading but coinbase is a bit different with this, you answered all the questions i had
We use Coinbase Futures mainly because we spot trade on Coinbase as well, and it makes things easier to have everything in one place. I'm not sure how their fees compare to other exchanges.

Hey. I love the video. Sorry if im not understanding this correctly but I have a question. Instead of adding a stop loss or limit for a short. Can i realize my p&l by going to positions and closing the position? Is that a way to complete trades or no?
Thanks so much! Apologies for the late reply. Yes, you can always choose to manually close your position. You would click over your open trade at the bottom and close it manually from there.

Great class, you talked about how to transfer money out (i.e. cash out) from the futures acct but did not address how the money gets into the futures acct.
No, you cannot directly change the expiration date on a futures contract on Coinbase; to effectively extend your position beyond the current expiration date, you need to "roll over" your contract by closing the expiring one and opening a new contract with a later expiration date, essentially transferring your position to a newer contract.
please show us how to place order when futures market is open, we need to see how you calculate margin, leverage. Coinbase doesn't have a paper account, how are we supposed to practice?

When you buy spot you never have to sell because you're buying crypto. With futures, do you have to sell and expiration? And if that is the case, would it be better to buy spot if you're thinking about investing long term? (1-2 years) Thanks!
You should close your contracts before expiration. If you don’t it will settle to cash at expiration. It’s similar to options. You can also “roll” your futures contracts like option positions (for long term hold). This will trigger a taxable event however.
