Hey Dora! Thanks, always happy to talk about such an awesome product and brand. Appreciate how you all are innovating and creating in the film industry. It's a great camera and I am looking forward to further trying and developing the whole Goodman line. ( I think the SCURA is next =))
Very enjoyable video, thanks. I have a Goodman Zone, with a 65mm Sekor and viewfinder and RB67 film magazine. It works very well and brings a different experience to medium format shooting. The camera can be used “run and gun” but I prefer to use it on a tripod for landscapes and double or multiple exposures, which it does very easily. It is also nice and light to carry if weight is a factor.
Thanks Howard! It is a great little camera isn't it? since this video I have put a few rolls through it and I have a lot more experience with this system and my views have definitely changed for the better. I agree with your views on usage as well but I haven't played with double exposures yet or landscapes but definitely plan to soon. a review on my experience thus far is in the works. Would love to see your results!
I think what makes this camera a more affordable option compared to the vintage name brand alternatives you mentioned, is that the expensive components that go into it are the least likely to break down spontaneously and either cost an arm and a leg to repair, or outright not be repairable and force you to scrap the entire copy. If something goes wrong with the Goodman body, (assuming you assembled it yourself) you can disassemble, look at the parts, and be like "oh snap, that's the part that broke," and reprint what you need. Worst case scenario, you just reprint and entirely new body. Or maybe Dora comes out with a new design that you like better, you can reprint that and transfer the film back and lens to the new camera.
Jacob Kratavil thanks Jacob! Ha, funny you mention that. We have looked into that place and I really wanna go. Not exactly the easiest to get to though
nice! yeah, they had a great deal on that for black Friday. I shot with it but I have about 12 rolls of film to develop, one of them being from the Zone, so should be updating soon.
This camera sounds really nice on paper, but I don't really see the point of spending a few hundred dollars on a camera that doesn't even show you a preview of the image it will produce when for just a little bit more you can get an actual medium format SLR. If you want a cheap entry point to medium photography just get an Agfa Isolette for 20$ or similar folders. They are small but very capable and for a little bit more you might even get one with a (coupled or uncoupled) rangefinder. I don't really see the advantage of the Goodman Zone aside from its novelty. Although the concept of being able to just print a camera is really exciting.
Totally agree not the cheapest way into medium format by any means. But the most expensive part of this setup is the lens and film holder. The printed body itself is at or under 100 I believe. The benefit isn’t so much the price it’s the options it opens up for you. With the open source files you can print adapters and helicoids for a lot of really nice lenses and the you can use it all on one body instead of having to invest into multiple systems and existing bodies that are tied to a single lens etc. plus the options for customizing and creating exactly how you want your camera to bring. But I agree it really just depends on where you want to go and what your looking for.
Pretty neat, haven’t seen a 3D printed camera until now. Can’t wait to see the upcoming videos, especially during(or about) the trips! (Again, love that iron man hud thing!)
The cheapest way to get into medium format is with a used camera. Folding camera that will be the cheapest and most compact way to join the medium format. 50-100 dollars will be enough. But a plastic 3D camera is a great idea, great, with a little little lie about cheapness :)
Lol Believe me I definitely don’t consider it cheap. If you’re comparing it to similar high quality lenses/ systems like in the Rb67 or mamiya/rolleis etc it is definitely less expensive in a lot of cases. But yes the cheapest way would be to get an old folding camera or cheap TLR. Although I wouldn’t say they are easy for quality is good.
@@graham_white I agree, but quality ... what is it for? )) I would rather talk about the lens drawing. We forget that many people are giving up the medium format because it's just hard to carry around. I'm a big fan of medium and large format, but I have a "Franca Solida III" in my pocket. For a good shot, quality, resolution, clarity are not always in the first place, almost always. But not everyone can afford to have a camera with them all the time. So a cheap entry to medium format is a folding camera. In my opinion, it has more advantages besides the price.
Those printing issues were because your buddies' printer was badly calibrated. It actually looked like it had many issues. If he dials it in, defects in printing would be minimized.
Good to know. I know after the first two takes started out off he adjusted some things and had to re-level the printing platform. that seemed to fix the issues. there is still always the possibility of it going haywire though if I'm not mistaken.
Hi Graham. Interesting video and the camera looks kinda cool, but nah - 3D printed cameras aren’t really my thing. I was ‘given’ my Bronica ETRS for free from an old photographer who had no use for it, and would much rather use that than a plastic camera (I’m not a holes guy either). Have considered building my own large format wooden camera in the past though. Now that would be cool. Might also stay away from the pumpkin and the cheese 😳😉 Great video. Keep em coming! 👍
agreed. It's a tough sell for sure at the price point but like all things technology I assume the cost to create will drop significantly over the next few years? But I do like pushing the boundaries and trying to create new forms of film photography and 3d printing does allow you to take it any direction you want. Also would definitely want to build my own medium/ large format out of wood or something similar eventually but hey if I was gifted a Bronica I would put a loot of film through it. thanks for the input!
Ya they have been slowly creeping up in price. Not surprised though because they are great lenses and ver versatile since they have focus and shutter built into them.
@@graham_white I mean. I have a printer and pretty much everything else I need. But man, that's steep. I'll be on the lookout. But in the meantime I'll print the AA to use my Nikon lenses with my Phone lol
I got lucky and scored the press camera with 2 backs and 2 lenses at a flea market for 125. Much harder to find a good deal on eBay since the market is much bigger. Haha that works!
Hey Graham! I just found this, and loved your video, thanks a lot for featuring my camera :) I hope you enjoy it and made great shots with it!

Just got one and loving it!
Nice!
Hey cool video! Thanks for sharing! Do you know what is the flange distance for this lens?
Thanks! I don’t know. I would assume it can be found in the Goodman group page or the printing files but thats out of my realm of expertise.
Hey Great video! Could you link me to the stl file you used to print the body as I can't find it on the Goodman website. Thanks!
“Look mom! A cooler version of Peter McKinnon” *-*
😂😂😂

Exactly. Pros and cons
For no reason the first vid on dora good man camera I ever seen 😂
AI Ikmal ya I searched for a while and couldn’t find anything. Partly why I decided to make one
Nice 3D printed camera! Also when you're in Norway I'd suggest checking out Svalbard, it's definitely worth the trip.
Jacob Kratavil thanks Jacob! Ha, funny you mention that. We have looked into that place and I really wanna go. Not exactly the easiest to get to though
Please make more Videos. I really enjoy them.
Josh B 🙌🙏🏻
i bought on Zone on Black friday.... still waiting for RB-Back...

Came for a bit of camera info, stayed for the VFX haha
🙏🏻🙌 much appreciated Eric!

Josh Koroschetz haha thanks Josh! Yeah it should be an interesting advancement in film photography. I’ll keep it coming
Interesting video man, thanks. How many hours does it take to print the body ?
Depends on the extrusion you choose but this one took roughly 30 hours. 😕
@@graham_white okay thx !
I'm going try to print with my resin printer
good luck!

The cheapest lens I could find was 200€ on eBay where I live... Jesus

Holga plastic cameras are the cheapest way to get into medium format film photography.
And for good reason
the compartment is for your weed
