He could still deliver a show in an arena despite his illness & that’s hard for any musician. Mentally he was prepared & firing at full power, fully prepared & didn’t let anything get the better of him, strong as an Ox hats off to Alan
Once Alan was back although Francis was Alan's best mate Rick and Alan seem to hit it off better. Francis only did the reunion so people wouldn't keep asking and Alan was in poor health. It was a pity that Rick, Alan and John didn't just leave together and form their own band after the reunion had finished
Yeah they swapped it for Caroline in the encore, I saw them twice on the frantic 4 reunion, Manchester Apollo 2013 (1st show back!) and Hammersmith the following year, and it was the only discernible difference set wise. The only thing i couldn’t fathom was no roll over lay down, I know it’s a one they do all the time but that’s such a huge part of the 76 live album from the Glasgow Apollo, you’d think they’d have done it. The other big miss was mystery song, if they were going to take out don’t waste my time for something, do it for that one rather than an old perennial like Caroline. But listen, nit picking. First time I saw the quo was Newcastle city hall in 1984 (the ‘farewell’ tour 😂) so I never saw them with JC originally, and having seen them a lot over the years and them never really having an off night, I was still shocked how good these shows were, and how much louder than normal, This was the Quo! RIP Alan, RIP Rick 😊
@@TDM1165 Don't waste my time was the low point of the 2013 reunion tour due to Rossi's horrendous guitar tone and the total butchering of the solos. They probably shelved it as it was too contentious to ask him to sort it out. I think that's also the reason behind not playing ROLD as by this time Rossi had been annihilating that solo for about 10 years .
It is clear Rossi just had no interest in the band or music at this stage, so flippant, dismissive and nonchalant! He was just going through the motions, only about money, although he did perform well musically at the concert and all the reunion concerts, but it was just professional playing, his emotion and heart was not in it. Sad really, for he scuppered Quo and led the band down a track of over 30 years of complete and utterly poor mediocrity and drivel, thinking he was more of a talent in middle of the road pap but he hadn’t the talent and survived on the legacy of the mid 1970’s bands unique creations.
It’s quite clear that the original band had nowhere else to go, plus the fact that Alan was in such poor health. So of course Rossi wouldn’t have an interest. I do however agree about the money and the whole “show business” thing with Rossi
Alan was the nicest guy in the band by a million miles!
Love alan lancaster he was the Quo . Better than rhino they brought in 1986,.. alan lancaster should never of been out of Quo
