    You know what? This is the first time in a while I’ve watched a video that’s straight forward and easy to understand with no over the top jargon.
    Appreciate it’s an older video now, but thanks all the same 👍

    the 2nd knob which has a frequency range from 12Hz to 320Hz is the high pass filter cut-off frequency, so it works only if LO CUT is on.
    For x0.1 and x10 buttons, you can use a 3rd know which has a 100Hz - 2 kHz range.
    Having on x0.1 you multiply the value of the knob, so you have a range of 10Hz - 200 Hz,
    having off both x0.1 and x10 you have a range of 100Hz - 2 kHz,
    having on x10 you have a range of 1kHz - 20kHz frequency.
    So the entire audio range is 10Hz to 20kHz
    x0.1 and x10 buttons are part of the parametric equalizer. It works together with octave bandwidth(4th knob) and dB level (5th knob) so until the EQ IN/OUT button is not on it will not change anything.

    You got a good deal on the pre-amp. I just did, March 2024, an EBay look-up and used it seems to be running $100 + with one seller claiming new and wanting roughly $360.
    I have several hand built mic preamps, but would like to buy a used or new professionally made unit. Not sure whether I want just a mic preamp or an audio interface for the computer & depends on what I chose for the audio path into my RS 918. There are so many options & honestly I don't know which to pick.
    Thanks 5 years later for your audio videos. They have been most helpful in setting up my Beringher model 1200 compressor. Not sure if I will use it but likely will give it a trial.

      George EI7KO Yep those DBX units are seen quite a lot on vocal racks. Too bad that unit is not a tube preamp but is does have an external FX send loop to send it out to a tube preamp so you can use it with the Behringer Tube Preamp.

      @@danfuerthgillis4483 for what I'm doing with it its quite sufficient. In ham radio use, we have very narrow bandwidth to deal with. Typically 100hz to 3k, so most radios roll off the warm low end regardless of what you have

    This is funny. I finally figured out how to work my crazy multitrack console (have been through 3 of them never getting the hang of it) and am finding my dynamic mic picking up all kinds of hiss through this preamp and much quieter and stronger bypassing it, directly into the console. I'm looking up causes and fixes and came almost straight to your video having forgotten I did a year or so ago (tho you did look deja vie familiar). I thought right away "good vid" and later read someone's comment which turns out to be me. Anyway thanks again. Hope the bass is working out. I don't really play but use it when needed. Right now, got to figure out what's going on with the noise.

      It's not about looks. Tubes have 9 pins and 2 sets of triodes. Each channel uses one set of triodes. Take the crappy chinese tubes out of it and install a new Mullard ecc83 or a vintage 12ax7 tube if you want a nice sound.

      @@josephjebarajs3550 no problem. Fair warning, though. The unit is not easy to take apart and put back together. There is a youtube video on how to do it. I changed the tubes in two of my units and I could have easily damaged them if I had pulled the parts too hard. You have to take off all the knobs and remove enough front screws to take off the silver panel. There are rubber gaskets and a circuit board that need to slide out of the front panel, and also two screws with a rubber piece that hold the tube in place. But if you have a couple hours on a day off and don't care about you warranty....

    I have a similar Behringer unit with Preamp, but my intent is to record in ProTools with it. I’m buying a Scarlett 18i20 USB interface, but it also comes with a preamp, so I know that’s trouble. How would you hook both of them to work into ProTools with processed audio?

    • @GeorgeEI7KO
      @GeorgeEI7KO  4 роки тому

      But you wouldn't need it in line with the scarlett??? What's the point?

      George Donaldson EI7KO Sorry, my Behringer unit is a Ultra Voice Pro, which is a Vocal Processor, it comes with EQ, Gate, Compression and DeEssing, but it’s also a preamp, I guess I should’ve specified that my intent is to process my vocals prior to get to ProTools, but preamp on preamp is quite an issue. The unit is Behringer Ultra Voice VX2496, and thank you deeply for your help! I’m going crazy with this stuff!

      @@GuillermoParedes51 either use the mic or line input. I can't remember if there's an option to bypass the preamp on that. Maybe a possibility on the scarlett? Deffo either turn the gain dow/off on the second unit. I'm. Assuming the scarlett will be ahead of the behringer in the chain

      George Donaldson EI7KO that’s my confusion. The chain. My guess is Microphone>Vocal Processor>Interface>DAW... but I’m not sure if this is how it would work, since they both have preamps but none of them has a bypass button for it.

    Can I use this to preamp the music coming out of my mixer that leads into my crossover, eq, and amps? If yes, can I use a microphone on 1 channel and my music on another?

    • @GeorgeEI7KO
      @GeorgeEI7KO  5 років тому

      You can use it to preamplify the music or the microphone. You can't do both at the same time. Your mucic source will be a stereo signal (2 channels) and you'll need to feed each channel into the preamp and on to your crossovers and on down your chain. To add a mic to the mix you can either have a second preamp in the chain or add the mic at the mixer stage if you have one. Hope that helps.

    i'm afraid you not understanding the functionality of this preamp correctly the first frequency control is the cut-off frequency for a high pass filter The low cut button is hi pass filter in out
    next is a very nice panoramic EQ with variable Q which can be used to enhance voice Low Q setting or to reduce room residence with a higher Q setting The output control
    actually controls the drive to the valve 😊
