In the spirit of June, Johnny and sooo many others sisters and brothers... (sorry, please be not angry, that's just my Feeling to your greatful song) I'm so deep be touched Thanks so much
This whole video, lyrics, harmony, music, photos, etc. makes me think of my dad’s family, who I adore almost as much as I did my Dad himself. (He’s now deceased.) I don’t care to go into it all right now, but I’ll just say that’s a sincere compliment.
Thank you very much... as I recorded it I slowly realized that it was about the early settlers.. for me I mean.. and that I would dedicate to them. So this feels appropriate.
"traditional verses, compiled my favourites and changed the odd line here and there" - the folk tradition seems to lend itself to this side of music, eh - participating in the process and the song more than just listening and consuming like a distant audience. I didn't grow up with kitchen-party culture, where people would just get together, go around a table playing songs. There's some magic to that participation, and it's often missing in music today. Great job, man.
Absolutely.. when musicologists first started using the term 'folk' music it was often in an effort to categorize music that came from a region before it got all mixed up with cosmopolitan life. These songs had no 'author' but were from the community and the authorship was considered to be collective and on-going.. living structures that can change with the times and the performers. I only grew up with minimal exposure to kitchen party culture but I did have lots of bush camp experiences and that is where I learned to play more than anywhere else. Just working in bush camps and jamming with other musicians.
I love the old stuff and I love this tune. Great version, the harmonies you and Natalia create now and then remind me of The Louvin Brothers or The Blue Sky Boys, and that is high praise. I’m constantly going back to the roots. Good versions of this tune, IMHO (I just learned what this means), include those by The Carter Family (obviously), Cisco Houston and Carl T. Sprague. You are now in their company.

Thank you for the kind words and deep connection to the setting. Cheers.
"Blessed are the peacemakers"
Love how they used this in the ending of red dead redemption

Far too kind.. I should listen to the other versions you mention. I’m not familiar with all of them.
I'm downloading the audio version to add to my playlist with your permission.
Of course my friend.. enjoy and thank you.
