"Misery Is The River Of The World" by Tom Waits from the album 'Blood Money'
Lyrics
Misery's the River of the World
Misery's the River of the World
The higher that the monkey can climb
the more he shows his tail
Call no man happy ëtil he dies
There's no milk at the bottom of the pail
God builds a church
The devil builds a chapel
Like the thistles that are growing
ëround the trunk of a tree
All the good in the world
You can put inside a thimble
And still have room for you and me
If there's one thing you can say
About Mankind
There's nothing kind about man
You can drive out nature with a pitch fork
But it always comes roaring back again
Misery's the River of the World
Misery's the River of the World
Misery's the River of the World
For want of a bird
The sky was lost
For want of a nail
A shoe was lost
For want of a life
A knife was lost
For want of a toy
A child was lost
Misery's the River of the World
Misery's the River of the World
Everybody Row! Everybody Row!
Misery's the River of the World
Misery's the River of the World
Everybody Row! Everybody Row!
Everybody Row!

This album is like a living organism.
The same could be said for you buddy 😏😂
A living organism from another galaxy sent to end humanity... yes...I agree.
yea it keeps crawling from my stereo speakers like some mutant horror monster every once in a while. but I keep it in order with my torch and musket

Oh yeah 😎
I love how his later work is very percusion driven. The marimba reminds me of a zappa esqe vibe on the dark side👍👍👍

In college, an ex girlfriend loved Tom Waits. I didn’t get it back then, but now I see his genius.
Blood money, the first Tom Waits album I bought. I think it's very underrated, I don't know why, it's a very great album and one of my favourites.
Actually, in Greece we say "the higher the monkey will climb, the more you can see its a$$"....Tom, you 're the best!
Modesty, back then.
Or over censored
@@psychologicalsigma9917 i think its more about what sounds nice in a song tho. rhymewise etc
Theres nothing wrong with modesty.
Another great song from Tom Waits
Tom Waits, you are my hero. You are a big inspiration to me, thank you for sharing your talent with the world; lord knows it needs it.
This song is genius.
Love you Tom! You're the world's greatest songwriter and you never disappoint.
This is beautiful
The master
Found this gem of a man a little while back in a Cookiemonster version of "God's Away On Business" and was instanly hooked. Now Im exploring all his great music!
Years ago a friend brought a copy of a magazine that I was not familiar with. It featured an interview with Tom Waits and and included a free CD. It was called step right up. It was a collection of some of his favorite songs. I was familiar with a lot of the artist, but got turned on to some new. Hank SR. Is one of my favorites .
Trout mask replica is underground gold. Captain Beefheart. Got me?
find me floating down the lazy misery river
If depression could be bottled and poured into a song, this would be it.
This song makes me remember the time I was rowing a galley while being whipped by the Cigarette Smoking Man ...
LMFAOOOO
This is what singing in the cartoon you watching the waiting room in hell
ah un étoile passe toujours délicat raffiné de l'or en barre
Good on youtube.
I only heard of this song on an X-Files episode. Go Figure.😮😂

Soul music magick 👹
Neitche said poets are shameless...they exploit their experiences...
why should they be ashamed of that, and why would you assume they already aren't? maybe we shouldn't heavily heed the words of one charismatic psychopath of the past
He's won. He's got the move. It's really actually all about blood money and fists full of dollars. Actually, around here, it's all about how everyone goes out and gets themselves an assault rifle, then heads out on the streets for a some FFA action. That's life. 🚳
