    Props to him for resisting the urge to scoop up that little cub and hug him and squeeze him and name him...

    Really broke my heart that the cub was bonding with this man, but because interference could be worse than helping, he had to leave the cub to his own devices. That decision would have kept me up nights. Even knowing that feeding this little one could ultimately lead to its demise, I fear I would have broke and fed the cubby. I guess it is good then that I don’t work and study with these animals as the soft hearted have no place among them.

      Technically they could work around it. tHEY HAVE THEM TAGGED SO i DONT THINK IT WOULD TAKE MUCh to place food ahead of where they will likely go to. Could feed them both and not interfere much.
      Im all for letting animals live without interfering but once I see them tagged etc I think we have already passed that loose rule.

      Lina Zhou, there is some hope. A Swiss documentary captured the story of two orphaned yearling brown bear cubs, whose mother some hunters murdered. They stuck together through their second year of life, made their den for torpor , and emerged the following spring with a greatly enhanced chance of living into adulthood. I often think about those brave little bears, hoping the remainder of their lives was long, and much happier than their second year. Now, I can not stop worrying about this little polar bear, either.

    • @IngoSchwarze
      @IngoSchwarze 3 місяці тому

      Quite possible. I think what the documentary intends to say is that she _prefers_ reindeer over human flesh (human flesh is very poor polar bear food indeed because it contains very little fat, but they need fat above all for their metabolism) and that she is not trying to hunt the two men because they have trained her very well such that she understands it is extremely unlikely she would get them but she knows trying would be a high-risk endeavour. Stealing a bit of a carcass owned by another bear (or by a cougar or pack of wolves or whatever), even if the owner is a big and strong and dangerous bear, on the other hand is typical bear behaviour when the owner is sufficiently distracted that the theft does not imply a significant risk. So it's very plausible that's what she considered trying.

      AGREED. THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO EVERY RULE. I SAW THIS LONG AGO & AGAIN TODAY & WAS THEN & NOW HAUNTED BY THESE MALE DECISIONS NOT TO FEED THE CUB. YOU AREN'T GOING TO KILL THE POOR CUB BY FEEDING IT, YOU FEED IT, YOU'RE LEAVING, HELP IT TO STAY ALIVE UNTIL IT CAN GET BY. IT WILL NOT GET ACCUSTOMED TO BEING FED BY PEOPLE BECAUSE THERE ARE NO PEOPLE THERE EXCEPT THE RARE DOCUMENTARY / FILM / PHOTOGRAPHER. SO YOU FEED ONE BEAR? IS THAT A DISASTER? BUT THEY AREN'T THINKING STRAIGHT, THEY ARE 'INSIDE THE BOX' LIKE THE PHARISEES / SADDUCEES WITH THEIR RULES WHO TORMENTED JESUS. HERE THIS POOR LITTLE CHILD SAW ITS MOTHER KILLED BY A MALE & EATEN (WHAT ELSE COLD HAVE KILLED & CONSUMED HER? UNLESS THE MALE KILLED HER & LEFT HER & SHE WAS CONSUMED BY OTHERS, BUT IF HE DID NOT TARRY & EAT HER, HOW COULD THE CUB HAVE RUN AWAY? THE CUB HAD TIME TO RUN WHILE THE MALE ATE HIS MOTHER, THE MALE WAS AFTER THE CUB, THE MOM GAVE HER LIFE TRYING TO SAVE IT.) NOW THE CUB COMES TO THE ONLY PLACE IT THINKS IT MIGHT FIND SUCCOR - THESE SETTLED MEN, WHO ARE TOO DAFT, COLD HEARTED, PETRIFIED BRAINS CAN'T THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX............

      @B earth MOST HUMANS ARE DIRTY ROTTEN SCUMBAGS, ESPECIALLY HEARTLESS MEN. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES. THE SAINTS SAY MORE PEOPLE TO TO HELL THAN HEAVEN - THE MAJORITY. YES THEY TAKE CARE OF YOU SAY KOALAS - DID YOU MEAN PANDAS? LOOK HOW THEY PAMPER PANDAS BECAUSE THEY'RE *BIG BUSINESS*. IT'S ALL ABOUT BUSINESS, BUSINESS IS MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS FOR WHAT? SURVIVAL & THEN LUXURIES, 'WINE, WOMEN & SONG' WHILE THE POOR ANIMALS STARVE. THEY WON'T EVEN LEAVE HUMAN GARBAGE, LEFTOVERS, FOR THE POOR ANIMALS TO EAT. THEY MAKE GARBAGE CANS IN PARKS BEAR-PROOF. SUPPOSEDLY THEY ARE HELPING THE BEARS. BUT THEY AREN'T. WHAT WILL THE BEARS EAT WITHOUT OUR GARBAGE? WE HAVE TAKEN OVER THEIR HABITATS, WE HAVE DEPRIVED THEM OF THEIR HOMES - MADE THEM HOMELESS. WITHOUT AMPLE ROOM WITH NATURAL FOODS & SMALLER ANIMALS THEY EAT, THEY STARVE. BUT THIS PATRIARCHAL WORLD RUN BY MEN DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS EATING STEAKS, ICE CREAM, THEN RAPING WOMEN & CHILDREN, & STARVING ANIMALS. THIS WORLD IS SO EVIL. BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS HUMAN MALES ARE GOING EXTINCT & THE HUMAN RACE OF WOMEN, THE PLANET, & THE ANIMALS, WILL ALL RECOVER......WE ARE ON THE CUSP OF MATRIARCHY NOW. MOTHER GOD HAS TAKEN CARE OF BUSINESS--HER BUSINESS.

      It sure is a difficult situation. I wonder if Polar bears would even be able to successfully hunt and catch that type of prey on a regular basis. We are hearing that wild Polar Bears may go extinct in less than a century. There are already cases of Polar bears and Grizzly bears mating on their own in the wild.
      Maybe the Polar bears will continue heading south and eventually create a new species of bear by mixing with brown bears. I don't know much about that type of thing but I did read that somewhere not too long ago. Nature has a way of adapting to changes, whether those changes are from nature or man.

    True bear dudes, thank you for bringing this story to us. Hope PB's can adapt fast enough to make it thru current warming trend-apparently sped up with human influence. Hopefully, they can learn to depend less on ice fast, get busy adapting like other bears do. More bear bellies full of beluga and bird's eggs in summer or learn to gang-up, kill walrus, hibernate in summer. Hopefully, they won't have to head south for berries, devolve back into brown version,. Black bear numbers in US growing like crazy over past 20 years, reside in all states now, except Hawaii.

      d t: Polar bears are hurt by conventional nonsense that depicts them as routine man hunters. As the narrator said, they have to be provoked or desperate to eat in order to hurt people. We simply lack the blubber they need to remain healthy. My conclusions about important matters are never memorized from third parties, then passed on, but based on data. Since 1870, polar bears have killed only 20 people, and only two of those in Churchill, Manitoba (1968 & 1983), where they freely roam the streets. A high percentage of their kills were of people who had already shot them. We cannot ask polar bears to regret that they have but one life to lose to human sadism. The data does not portray man killer.

      Depends how hungry the bear is and what your defences are. You don't have a weapon? No base to hide in? You're a sitting duck and humans are highly caloric. Even more so now with our less than ideal diets. If the effort to eat us is more than the reward they won't get into it unless desperate.

    • @makingadifference4834
      @makingadifference4834 5 років тому

      They have a natural fear of humans

    • @YaoiChan18
      @YaoiChan18 5 років тому

      @makingadifference er, no. No they do not have a natural fear of humans. They ARE cautious of humans, to a degree. The same way they would treat another polar bear with caution, or a walrus. They know that we have POTENTIAL to be dangerous. But they are not scared of us at all; polar bears see people as prey. This bear ran because a fight would not be worth it given how little food it has available. If it lost the loss of calories would have been too costly, but the bear is clearly well fed enough not to be desperate enough to go for broke. It can wait, so it will wait for an easier meal.

    • @eggrollsoup
      @eggrollsoup 4 роки тому

      Lady Lolipop Yea they dont have a natural fear because in the past humans didnt come in contact with them, at least very rarely. Some other animals do have natural fears, even lions did but not so much anymore because they arent hunted anymore by humans.
