This week, families gather all over the country to celebrate Thanksgiving - turkey, pie, ALL THE SIDE DISHES, and of course FOOTBALL! And maybe a nap or two. But as the snow begins to fall, and the autumn colors transform to lights and trees with hints of green and red, the Christmas season arrives.
In the midst of a crazy holiday weekend, this Sunday marks the first week of Advent! Here at Discovery, we are truly excited to jump into our Advent study on Isaiah 9:6 and kick off our Christmas series, What Child is This?
Some 700 years before the birth of Jesus, Isaiah declared these words in a season of great darkness; 'For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. '
Over these next four weeks, we look to unpack these four powerful descriptions of Jesus found in Isaiah 9:6 as we prepare our hearts for the arrival of the Messiah. This Sunday, we jump into our series with a look at how Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor and what this means when it comes to wisdom and insight for our lives today.
