11:05 In Poland there's something called "laga na robercika" which basically is a meme where Szczęsny just kicks the ball really far looking for Lewandowski every time because the rest of our national team is so bad. I think they got it perfected by now so shouldn't be a problem.
According to my knowledge that's the best Polish tactics invention ever
it is "laga na lewego"
@@Lol_Mil both names are used to describe it
That's fucking gold haha
Laga na Roberta 💯💪
here in poland, we call him the *minister of national defense*
I think only you call him like that 😅
@@MDD-d8t nah, during world cup there was an ongoing meme that Szczęsny should be promoted to a minister of National Defense because he defends the country better than our (at the time) current minister
@@MDD-d8t no, it started during the 2022 world cup, he saved a penalty against saudi arabia and argentina (messi was the pen taker) letting poland go to the knockout stage by goal difference, it strenghtened when poland won a friendly against germany 1-0 thanks to him aswell

@@nastybeats That's a nice one 😂
I think people hear "retired" and immediately think he's washed up... no he's not. 34 is not old for a goalkeeper, for example: Neuer is 38 and still playing at the best german club there is.
It is worth mentioning that last season was his best with Juve. He said that, every Juve fan says the same thing. He'd be a rock-solid number one there if it weren't for the fact that everyone knew Szczęsny was going to retire soon and the new coach didn't want to play with a veteran for a year and then start from scratch again when Wojtek retired. That is why he wanted to start with a new goalkeeper, possibly for the next 10 years.
Isn’t Neuer 40?
Edit: Damn, he’s only 38, I thought he was 40.
@@kino9521 btw buffon retired at like 41, yk what’s old for a player, i mean a player; 58, thats how old the record-holder of longest career ever is
That’s why Navas was the best option.

i think everybody remembers him as the guy who stopped messi's penalty in the world cup.
I don't want him to save penalties coz that's a 50/50 chance

If there's a couple words to describe Szczęsny it's "top class solid". I don't watch Serie A that much but for the National side I can hardly remember a moment where any goals conceded were his fault. Dude, saved Poland's ass too many times to count.
he was very criticised before world cup but then he got a lot of good saves and became hero all of sudden
He’s definitely had his bad moments, but he was at his best towards the end of his career. He was great at the 2022 World Cup and pretty good at the last Euros.
@@Hello-wy2px No keeper is immune from bad moments but when it comes to consistently good, he's above Dudek and Boruc and they were top keepers too.
Senegal
Despite few brainfreezes he was really great keeper in NT
Szczesny is an insane Goalkeeper. I'm a Romanista and trust me when I say there was a reason Alisson was his second. He's really world class. (After he went away Alisson became in my opinion the better GK but it's like talking about who's better Foden or Wirtz)
about his long passes in Poland we call it "laga na lewego" its modern tactic that requires Szczęsny to make a long pass to lewandowski and hope for the best.
I heard its the best tactic pep quardiola is even scared rn
Sean Dyche would be proud
@@chrisf.9595A proper Brexit tactic😂
certainly a very modern tactic
Lewandowski sucks for poland
szczesny is quality he can help us.
Szczęsny was the true MVP of the last World Cup. He just happened to play for a shit team, that with a regular GK would loose all 3 matches, but he alone pushed Poland past the group stage, while defending 2 penalties as a bonus.
You left out one fact. Yeah, winning a spot over Gigi was a big deal, but Gigi was old by then. The real thing was winning a spot over FREAKING ALISSON BECKER in Rome. He was number one in Rome while Allison (the best goalkeeper in the last ~6 years) couldn't get his spot. And the moment Wojtek went to Juve, Alisson got the number one spot and after an amazing season moved to the Reds for 60m€ and since then he has been at least top3 GK in the world in every season.
So yes - Wojtek has an amazing story.
He played at Arsenal and was good there.
He moved to Rome and he benched the best goalkeeper in the last 6 years.
Then he went to Juve and he benched the best goalkeeper in the history of the game.
I am not saying that Szczęsny is a GOAT... but he has always been one of the most underrated goalkeepers in Europe. He never dropped below a certain level while most other goalkeepers did.
Neuer - many bad moments in recent years, mostly due to injury.
Ederson - had his moments too.
De Gea - not worth describing.
Ter Stegen - same.
Oblak - usually solid, but has had one or two down seasons.
The only two goalkeepers who have been consistent in the last 5 years are Tibo and Alisson. And if we add to the list maybe 10% weaker goalkeepers than these top ones, then Szczęsny should also be in the list of the most consistent goalkeepers of the last few years.
0:15 calling szczęsny “some polish guy “15 seconds in is crazy 😭
couldn't pronounce his name right at all and figure I'd find something that let me fly through it 😂😂

Wojtek is in good shape, he was training whole summer, stop only 3-4 weeks ago when he announced retirement. Wojtek now is in top 5 goalkeepers in the world. Definitely better even than Ter Stegen. Barca won the lottery.
Some part of Barca fandom are really toxic. I remember when Barca fans was trashing Raphina. Raphina is one of the best Barca players at the moment. Now some Barca fans are trashing Ter Stegen, even though he was one of the main players for winning last La liga title.
always happens with big teams. there are always the "fans"
nah ter stegen is a different situation. He's been through all those champions league horror show from roma, liverpool, bayern, psg, frankfurt so it can be said that he's mentally not confident anymore in important games. U can't just defend him by saying "he's the best keeper in the world" when he's not even top 15 i swear so move on lol
@cikarica3521 we Don't care... stegen is shipped in 2019 by madrid or any other serious club because they have standard but you clearly don't hold Barcelona to a high standard if you think think he's a good enough goalkeeper for us
@@CognicTELEVISION ikr great point, and these attached Barca fans keep saying “he’s one of the best in the world” like he’s not lol prove it to me. And our defence is the one that saved his ass in the la liga winning part. These are the type of fans who wouldn’t swap stegen for kobel or unai coz they are clearly too attached to him
@@truealpha7258 I just don't understand why they're attracted to him to the point where the think he's untouchable... Like he's literally useless. Put a tree in goal and it would do a better job than ter stegen
Why Barcelona Signed Wojciech Szczęsny: cause he's a free agent world class goalie. Sometimes it's that simple 😆
It's safe to say that without Szczesny Poland wouldn't have qualified to Euro 2024 and wouldn't make it out of the group stage at the World Cup

There will be more Poles than Brazilians in Barcelona team after this transfer.

"Wojtek" is a nickname for "Wojciech", I think it is more common for ppl in Poland to call him "Wojtek" rather than the latter. So his club teammates ended up calling him Wojtek because of both difficult pronunciation of his formal first name and that is how a friend would call him.
Yes. In Poland we use shorter forms of our official names like Wojtek for Wojciech. Wojciech has more official sound, and Wojtek is more casual.
@@bartomiejbanach5690 how would you pronounce those 2?

@bartomiejbanach5690 thanks. I know how to pronounce the first one bc I had a friend in high school named that. So I was curious how the other one sounded.
Barcelona made great move. Szczęsny is one of the best in the world. You can't be weak when you was nr 1 in Arsenal, Roma and Juventus
Szczesny is not one of the best. Juve got rid of him quite brutally despite only 1 year in contract left. Barca paid him less than Izaki Pena!

He is amzing. Especially the last season. He will finally have chance to prove that he is the best in the world.
It's very important to mention that the deciding factor behind his retirement wasn't his age, or waining skills, lack of form but rather his son. He reportedly asked him if he'd like for Szczęsny to retire, to which he replied "Yes, because that would mean you would be home more often".
Every single Polish name has a formal and informal variation, which are widely used and recognized by everyone in Poland. Arkadiusz (formal) becomes Arek (informal). Aleksander (formal) becomes Olek (informal). Jakub (formal) becomes Kuba (informal). Wojciech (formal) becomes Wojtek (informal).
Wojciech and Wojtek are both valid, but in a friendly setting, referring to him as Wojciech would feel abnormally cold and distant. Thus, he probably asked people to refer to him as Wojtek while abroad and that later turned into "Tek".
Marek
good for barca. szczesny is a GREAT shot stopper and 100x better than ter static. in my opinion shop stopping skills should be the number 1 priority to look for in any goalkeeper. all these "ball-playing GK" BS comes after that. if your keeper cant save shots, his distribution skills are useless and that is exactly what the problem was with ter statue. i am so happy barca finally working to replace marc and will go for a permanent replacement in january, hopefully.

Who’s here after El Clasico and Pena’s performance??
Fan fact:
Szczesny has received a text messege during that game, just when Ter Stegen got injuried.
It was messege from a guy who did a commentary on that Barcelona game for Polish tv, joking that there is chance for him (Szczesny) to join Barca.
Szczesng said that in interview.
I like how you emphasise the sentences and build the case, it makes video reliable and interesting, keep up the good work!
Mr Szczesny has historically at times single handedly guaranteed poland's qualification and progression in international tournaments. Poland living LEGEND. Despite a boring, lacklustre team performance during the last WC, his Messi pen-save is absolutely historic. Good buds with Lewy also. Bonus 😎and a really chill, intelligent, down to earth, confident, personable and family oriented dude. He will fit in well!!! As a polak I couldn't be happier. Just hope the spanish cigs are as good as the italian, else may have to order a supply.
It's simple. Szczęsny and Lewandowski played together and have been the pillars of the Polish national team for 15 years. They are the most senior, the most experiencedand the most accomplished Polish players of the last decade, though on two opposing sides of the field. Chances are Lewy texted him as soon as he got to the changing room saying "Mate, you're on", and Szczęsny probably replied "No probs mate". He's doing it more as a favour for his best mate than anything else, we all know Barca is skint.

Amazing video, thanks for sharing!
A great summary, well done!
Remember the days that Lewandowski played with two other polish players in dortmund. He is different when he is playing with his friends.
respect szecny, he is a great goalkeeper
Szczęsny is solid goalkeeper, might even say elite. I watched him playing for juve and in Polish National team. He can outperform for most of the time and he is good at defending PK’s check last game against argentina.
Szczęsny was the sole reason juve made the ucl qualifiers, I bet he will fill the spot for ter stegen even tho he isn't great as a ball playing goalkeeper
I am Polish and i think that Wojciech Szczęsny played great in the National team and in clubs i think that he WAS one of the best in his days
It's very funny how you avoid saying szczęsny
His father was actually a great goalkeeper himself. You can imagine daddy trained him since he was in the womb.
I am a die hearted fan of Barca since I was a kid and I do play football casually of course and I am a goalkeeper 😅
Szczesny is my favourite keeper of all time
I am happy that he is a Barca player now❤
Barca just signed the keeper that almost violated Messi.
You have to be very good goalkeeper, when You playing for Polish National Team and every game You saving like 20+ clear shoots on Your goal. This is why Polish goalkeepers are so good, because Polish defence is so weak.
It’s also important to mention that when he went on loan to Brentford for 6 months, who were in League One at the time, he was named the goalkeeper of the century
im a barca fan but my second club is juve so i see this as a massive win
Myb this is the blessing that we need
Bro was smoking in the dressing room😂😂 Sounds like a young lad frest out of eastern europe! To me it fits perfectly. No shame in it. Sure it was a learning lesson for him. Cant wait for him to turn up on our goal line.
Ter Stegen is amazing with his feet. I hope Wojtek makes some improvements in this element.
Michi and Robby are the best Barca content creators right now
he may not be the best in the world, but certinly he's one of the best of his generation, absolute top
Ter stegen does not deserve the hate, the most loyal player after puyol
If Flick wanted a replacement for MATS then I believe he has a plan to get the best out of the player's quality as we have seen with many of our players who have been under-performing under Xavi's management but has completely rejuvenate under Flick.
As a Pole, I can't wait to see long balls from Szczęsny to Lewandowski. In polish national team we have 5 players that can actually play football. In Barca Lewandowski is surrounded by better players so it may actually work out :D
i hope he joins the list of 1 season starmen that influenced barcelona greatly during a time of turmoil
I love Szczezny 🇵🇱 he will fit in great at Barca
Just watch the video when he kick the ball by the rainbow into the basketball basket. He is REALLY good in short passes.
They signed Szczęsny to get that 3 chemistry rating for Lewangoalski
the biggest question is - what are they gonna do with Pena now and how LaPorta, Deco and Flick are gonna sort it out

Inaki did pull some great saves in the recent matches, but he does get nervous sometimes
Back in Poland, we call him “the national defence secretary”... now I think I’ve to go to see bookies to make some changes about la liga
The coincidence was crazy... few weeks after he was done he got basically the only offer that would bring him back.
Szczesny is very close friend with Lewandowski. I mean really, really close. I believe Wojtek is one of the closest people for RL9. They are spending private time together, like for example holidays. On Polish National Team they always train together. It will be additional plus for Barca because they know each other extremely well. They are playing together for Polish National Team since... 2008. They both want to live in Spain after their careers and they even having houses in the same neighbourhood.
And for the non Poles: Szczęsny in Polish means " Lucky " "Afortunado"
His father was also in his time best polish goalkeeper
very good video, good luck on 100k subs goal
Robby will have a full year to learn to pronounce Wojtek's name, I am looking forward to that, how about you try to pronounce his name as well as possible each time he plays a match well and completely butcher it if he plays bad?
Better keeper than Ter Stegen but if I was Flick and Barcelona President I would have chosen Keylor Navas considering what he has done in the UCL

@@Pythxn-_-well..
You should mention that his retirement was not planned for this year but for the next year. The only reason he retired is because Juventus struggle with his salary and asked him to leave this season. He was looking for a good transfer but nothing great and ambitious came up so he just said it is not worth it. He did not want to go to smaller club or league where there was no longer exciting to play. He always said he wants to spend more time with his family and he earned enough money to do so.
And then, Wojciech "the Winged Hussar" Szczęsny arrived! 🇵🇱👑
The Polish national team are getting stronger. They didn't shine too much because they were put in a tough group stage.
I want to put a thumb up and can't do it. Somehow we lack a good number of six players to become a good team. But we ALWAYS had great "keepers"!
His retirement was actually a good choice for him, juve wanted to train youngsters, not to extend his contract, so he had only offers from smaller italian clubs, which would be a downgrade for his career, or saudi arabia which is a retirement league (and a tuff place to move to), and all of the better european clubs had their #1 goalkeeper spots taken, for someone with dignity this was the best choice
Dude, Barça didn't fail to get Nico Williams. He decided to stay.
Luckily.
That allowed us to get Dani Olmo, a much more necessary player.
Also, it was sad not to have Nico, but it was far from a drama. The only drama was invented by Madrid's press as usual.
as a milan fan i have to admit. Ter stegen is a very alright keeper. is not the best and never will be but he’s pretty solid. he won’t be curtois but he also won’t be Karius. all am saying is barca won’t have to worry about the keeper being at fault for losing
Its too much to call him a retired player. He just announced it, juve simply is releasing pay budget and decided that Szczęsny is too expensive but really he would not be if juve would not be in a mess. In Poland he continued a good series of modern world class gks after Dudek and Boruc (and his rivality with Fabianski for the spot) so he has experience. He just did not wanted to look for any club to play, so he retired saying that he want to focus on family but its propably no problem to return as he only missed first month of season. He is already living quite near i Spain so he would not be far from family and for Barca he is simply the best choice and not only for one season, i can imagine that he could fight with Ter Stegen for nr 1 but that depends how i will work out in this year.
I'm not really sure why you think that Szczęsny speaks German (obviously he never played in German-speaking country). He knows English, Italian and probably few words in Spanish (Wojtek owns a house in Spain and also its basics are similar to Italian). Ofc Lewandowski speaks fluent German but not Szczęsny
