I also have tons of embroidery floss. Some will freak out to hear I did this. A friend gave me her cross stitch kits and I separated the floss and canvas to keep but gave the pattern to thrift store. Last evening watching tv I separated embroidery floss colors. Now I can choose colors as I make some of these amazing baskets. Clever craft that I had not looked into before 2023. Thanks instructor!

I enjoy untangling embroidery floss - it's meditation for me.😊 I hope you have fun making some baskets!

Lucy, I’m surprised there is no one else making these baskets with embroidery thread. I’m having a ball and have made 4 in a couple weeks. Variegated thread is so fun to do rows with and I plan on adding 8/0 seed beads. Cute as all get out and keeps me busy. This all started because I want to use the three shoe boxes full of thread I have accumulated. I noticed at a thrift store they charged $5.00 for a half full sandwich bag of floss. Glad I don’t have to go buy any. A two inch tall by 3 1/4 inch wide basket requires 6 or 7 skeins. Thanks ever for sharing.

😊I have stores of embroidery thread too! And I love variegated yarn. It's fun to see what patterns come up. You have some great advice, thanks for taking the time to share!

These baskets are fun, beautiful and keep your hands busy. Starting and stopping thread is demonstrated pretty well here. I have started using a number 1 crochet hook instead of a needle. A quilting/sewing clip is handy to hold threads when putting the piece down and changing threads. To encourage your basket to form sides I gently pull just the macrame cord all the way around the piece. You will soon see the form take shape. To end your piece cut the macrame cord like Lucy does at the beginning. Weave the end of your thread best you can back into the basket. Some gray check or fabric glue could be helpful. My first basket was bold colors and now I am using soft mauves for the second one.

I love this and I have a ton of embroidery floss. These will be great to work on while watching Netflix during the quarantine and what sweet gifts for friends. What I don’t have is macrame cord. Is there something I could use as a substitute? Thank you! I’ve just subscribed!

Any smooth cord or rope will do. the thicker the cord, the larger your basket will be.

Looking forward to the next video! How long does it take to complete a basket, once you get the hang of it?
    Thanks!

It would take about 8 hours or so to complete this tiny basket - not a fast art, but very satisfying! You can see the rest of the videos in this series here: thecreativitypatch.com/blogs/blog/mini-basket

Is there any replacements for the macrame cord?

Any smooth cord or rope will do, sometimes I use fabric strips for the core! the thicker your core, the larger your basket will be.

Old shoe laces, paracord, twine. Thx for making me think about alternatives. My craft cord is kind of flattened so I don’t like that.
