I appreciate you showing the actual difficulty of getting the lock ring on and off. To many other youtube mechanics bullshit and say "all you need is a toothbrush!" not literally but you get the point. Anyway thank you for the honest content! I had to order a new ring we'll see how it goes!
Yeah people are fake.... Thanks for watching. I ordered the Lisle 62970 Kit after this one. Not going to bust knuckles on the next one! Good luck my friend!
@@Brandonlexx1 I went ahead and ordered one and it arrived today. Just looks like too good of a design to me not to work. I've got basically the same buick lesabre. . Actually watching you use that large set of channel locks and a screwdriver certainly makes me think this thing should work easier than that. Thanks for your reply and I will reply back again on how it works so others will know also. May be a week or so as it's awful cold now outside lol
Maaaaan you just saved me a million dollars 😂 well thats what it feels like because of your video i now believe i can do this and save money!!!! Thanks man for being so thorough
I should check the connections between aftermarket and OEM connectors. I trouble shot the connector and it was not crimped properly. I also checked to hear the pump buzzing.. it’s an after market pump that finally failed during a rain storm. Great video! Well done.
My fuel gauge is floating around from 1/2 to full and back. I'm suspect that eventually (in the very near future) I will need to replace this pump/gauge combination unit in order to keep my 114k, '03 LeSaber Celebration Limited on the road. Your video was phenomenal and convinced me to have a mechanic do the work. Liked, subscribed!
I have this cars twin same color an all. An it's doin same thing as urrs I can drive it an the gas hand goes to full an I stop goes down to half it's sending unit
Great job & tutorial! Wish you had one for 2011 Buick Regal 2.0 liter fuel pump. Can't find info anywhere. Gonna have to bumble thru it. Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge! Peace ☮️
Good idea with the channel locks and screwdriver to get lock ring off! Helps to not have a full tank of gas tho. Lol. New lock ring helps. I always spray a little lithium grease on the new rubber seal so you don't rip up the seal, also so it doesn't move out of place, especially if you reuse the old rusty ring. Hammer and flathead to install new ring is much easier.
Rather than splice the wires, I used an adapter made by Casper Electronics in Coloradeo. "GM Fuel Pump adapter". However, the new fuel pump came with a warning that you should do the splice anyway because as a fuel pump goes bad, it often damages the original square connector.
The hardest part for me what lifting the pump out. The diameter seems to be the exact same as the hole or event a little bigger after swelling? and super hard to line up. you did a nice twist and level lift. I could never do that and have changed 3 of these. I finally took a utility knife and shaved plastic off the hole to make the hole a little bigger. Worked but got a few scraps in the tank. worked okay though. They are too big to make it through the sock or holes.
Do clogged fuel filters burn these up? It looks like my buddy has had two go bad in 4 months, I went to change the filter and it was totally chalked full of grime. Changed the filter and now I hear nothing from the pump.
Since you speed passed it, Purple to purple, black to black, "The black wire next to the purple wire on the new and old harness" Yellow to gray, Black to black with yellow stripe. "The Black wire next to the gray wire on the new harness"
The old pump broke in two pieces while trying to pull it out it did not fit through the hole do you know if it would be ok to install the new one with that piece floating in there
Awesome Video! Cheers to You and Cheers to that 3800 Buick! I do have a question. Been battling a new yet consistent issue for a week or two. I live in Florida, hot temps, and one of the "supposed" symptoms of a bad fuel pump is your car stalling in hot temps? My 2005 Buick Lesabre has stalled on me 3 times in the last week. It started back up with some feathering of the gas pedal each time. I replaced the fuel filter. Still died on me after a 20 mile drive. It starts back up and I am able to get to my home, but it is very frustrating when your car dies in any atmosphere. Is this a true symptom of a faulty fuel pump? Or is it a regulator or sensor? I am not good with electrical. But if its a fuel pump issue, your video would allow me to do it myself. I appreciate the video! Cheers!
I have a question. i have the same car and starts and runs but the fuel gauge hasn't been working it bobs around and sometimes reads the fuel and then just goes back to empty so i never know how much gas i have. Is this a fuel gauge issue or is there a sensor and is it located on the fuel pump?
Thanks for this vid. Im wondering why would new fuel pump not come with that piece of plastic.. also why does it look so awkward trying to get it in/out? Im guessing im going to get milked by a mechanic... thanks for this vid im thinking this is the problem with my lesabre.
Sorry for the slow response. I have wondered many times why they don't send clips. 🤷. Awkward coming out because it is full of gas and don't want to spill in the trunk.
So I checked that little fuel pressure thing, there was pressure there so I cleared it and then turned the key again and checked there for pressure again and there WAS pressure there again, 😅 any idea what my next move should be ? Thanx !!
There are two heavy gauge wires. They are for the pump. Two smaller whites for the sending unit. I don't remember colors off the top of my head. Maybe I will look up a diagram for you tomorrow.
@@Brandonlexx1 ahh cool at least they're all not same size. Gotta do the job soon my brothers 2000 lost it's prime plus the gas gauge doesn't work so definitely near future. If u could I would appreciate that a lot but I might be able to figure it out too
Large black wire is pump ground. Other large wire is pump hot. Other two are for the sending unit. If the level doesn't read then swap them. The instructions should tell you the wiring for the pump side.
@@wyattduke8085I ended up beaking the top off and had to bend and cut the bottom half to get it out. The new one barely went in as well. I guess the fuel tank opening shrunk overtime, idk.

That is a fair sized pair of channel locks you used. I'm wondering what size?

I would not. Get all the pieces out so they dont plug up your pump.

Sorry for the slow response. Could be many things. I'd test fuel pressure and electrical. Check for codes etc. Wouldn't just throw parts at it.

What was the time to replace it
Probably about an hour with the struggles!

Honestly could be either. With a scan tool you can monitor the readings and determine which it is. There is a sending unit attached to the fuel pump.

That sucks buddy. At my shop I would diagnosis the problem for about $100. Probably worth it to take it to somebody. Might be a simple fix.

My fuel pump is humming very loud is this a sign that it's failing it's the same car as this one
Maybe eventually. They are a little noisy normally.
It kind of sounded like it started before you shut it off
So you don’t have to drop the tank for these kind of Buick lesabre
Shouldn't. Hole in the trunk.
Im about to do this on my buick what order did you wire the pump connector? thanks for the video keep up the good work
Matching the colors to the connector that you cut off.
