Ever since Jimmy spoke about on Mysterious World, I've always agreed with drawn great comfort from the apparent fact that our animals continue on in a better place. God certainly didn't create beings of beauty, grace and wonder that are capable of love for their humans in order to just throw them away when they died.
The google machine says that some non-humans bury their dead or at least mourn in some way, including elephants, chimps, ants (although that's probably so as not to poison their nest, lab rats, magpies, red foxes (although they only cite one case), and gorillas. But who knows the motivation for any of it? It could all be instinct.
