CABRINI is not a Faith based film it is a more of a Biopic film. People going to see this movie expecting that it is a Faith based film will be disappointed & I already watch some reviews from Catholics who said that God is lacking & there's one that straight up said that she doesn't like it at all. Oh, well you can't please everybody 😊
Yeah, definitely can't please everyone. I think the label "faith-based" has always been overly broad and a bit ambiguous (is it a film about people of faith, or made by people of faith, or both, etc.). Musicians went through a similar dilemma too with the whole "We're not a Christian band. We're Christians in a band" thing. I do think it is is a little strange how much the religious elements are downplayed given it's a story about a nun, but there is a ton to appreciate in this film beyond just wanting it to be some sort of evangelistic sermon.
Thanks! I unfortunately missed The Color Purple since I believe it released on Christmas Day and I wasn't able to get caught up. I've seen Dune: Part Two though! I'll be posting a review for that later today. I thought it was good.
True, CABRINI does not fit the mold of 'faith based films' that preceded it. Yet, don't throw the baby out with the bath water. This story has much merit as it builds the story of a faithful woman who has little fear of serving 'the least of these' who are living at the rough edges of life. CABRINI is a cinematic masterpiece with the creation of artistic images that far surpass other films in this genre. Look for images briefly framed in circles. Allow CABRINI to be a unique film; you will be touched.
What a disappointment! I thought that finally a real life story of someone who was devoted to the Lord and who did many selfless acts in helping others....yet there was no glory to God in this film Cabrini only "referred" to God once, never used the name of Christ and told a prostitute who felt that all the water in the world could not wash away her sin that, basically, she was stuck with her sin and had to depend upon the fact that she was a "strong woman". What a joke! The perfect line to highlight the truth that the Lord Jesus Christ could wash away all her sin! No glory to God here, only glory to a strong-willed, self-dependent, determined woman! I am sure that Sister Cabrini was dependent on God for all that she accomplished and for the strength she needed to press on. So sad, another political, woke, feminist movie. What a shame for the Church!

If you haven't seen it I would recommend The Color Purple and Dune Part Two. Some recent releases
