Love the series and the channel. I did weekly water changes for the first year because I had lots of brown algae for a long time. When I finally got over that I started every 2 weeks and all is good now. I've been watching the channel for a long time and I was just wondering why Mr. saltwater doesn't do a over view of his tank . I'm sure everyone would love to see everything in his tank . It looks so good in the background . Let us see it up close, please.

I like to start off first by saying I love watching this video series you are always excited and I always look forward to seeing the next video I do have a question I notice you are using a standard water hose with the metal ends I was always told that that could create an issue in your tank I am using a RV drinking hose with plastic ends maybe mr. Saltwater wood be the man to ask

Should we be worried about temp of the water? Doesn't seem to get addressed?

I'm grateful for this series and the many months of research I did before making the decision to jump into this hobby. Over the last 6 months or so I've learned I'm not currently in a position to afford the time and the associated costs. Perhaps in time I'll revisit the idea of owning my own little bit of the seas. But for now I'll have to live through experiences and tanks on the internet.

Hi Shayne, I did the same as you for 30 years. Now that I have a tank I wish I did it years ago. You can do it. Start small ;)

reef keeping should be enjoyable and not a task, keeping the system maintenance simple is key in my opinion and doesn't need to be as expensive as some people believe. If you have the space and means, you can make your own RODI and mixing salt water ready to input into your system, in my experience, is ready within 4 hours negating the need for large storage buckets taking up space. There are small cylindrical pumps available here in the UK, which means you don't need to suck up that nasty salt water when dumping the water or slowly pumping clean water into the tank so as not to upset the system balances unduly.

Great video! Learned quite a bit here and realized Im doing my tank no good by doing 20% weekly water changes on my 75 gallon tank, that may have contributed to dinos and cyano outbreak. My train of thought was large is better. Here your saying only 5%. Would this also apply to a sumpless skimmerless tank?

What is the narrow piece on the end of his siphon tube? You can see it when he's siphoning the sand.

I’ve been doing about 20% monthly. I usually start making RO water a couple days before I plan to change then I mix the salt in 5 gallon buckets and add it immediately.
I don’t know if it really would or not but I felt like it might pick up something undesirable from the plastic in my trash can if I let it sit too long. I still have to add the nopox occasionally to keep down the nitrate. I could see advantages to 5% changes weekly, but I’m to lazy for that.
At this point I think Jimmy has graduated from newbie.

I cannot find pyramid butterflies anywhere I’ve been trying to get some since you put out your video on pyramid. Butterflies can’t find anyone who carries them could you help please
