Great video and explanation, good job. I cannot express how much I love the Moria book; and this solo mode is a gem I'd say, as finding a group or time is not easy either but you get to experience it which might give further inspiration and ideas for normal play.
Thanks i was literally looking for a video on this topic yesterday. I agree its alot to wrap your head around. Im thinking to stick with strider mode for now and if i start gathering allies, see how the Moria rules play out.
Are the solo rules in the Moria book, or is this a new pdf like Strider Mode? I’m just picked up the core rulebook last week and haven’t been able to play yet, but the Moria expansion was definitely the reason I picked it up.
These solo rules are included in the Moria book. You don't need to buy Strider Mode for this. However, Strider Mode has a few different rules for playing a solo hero without a band.
@@tnttiger3079 Basically all the same rules are there with a few minor changes. A number of the random tables are slightly different but mostly the same. Strider Mode also includes some Patron Quest ideas and a bit more information on what a Solo RPG is. It does seem to make Stride Mode a little redundant but I'm not sure yet. I haven't sat down to actually play through a game playing Moria solo so I'll have to do that for a bit and see.
That is a tough question. There's a lot in Moria that I like. I think for my solo play, I'll start out as slave dwarves who get a chance to escape. That'll get right to the action, and instead of exploring Moria, the whole adventure will be about getting out. This could work well for new players as well.
Hi Will! Two questions- 1. Would this system work well outside Moria? Would it work with multiple player-heroes? I'm imagining a game where like the Hobbit, with Bilbo, Thorin, Balin, Fili, and Kili as PHs and the rest of the dwarves as a band! 2. How do you gain new members after a loss?
1. Yes, this system would work perfectly outside of Moria. The rules do include a little section about having 2 players, I'm not sure how it would go with more than that. I suppose it could work but it might slow down play with that many players but I expect it would be better to just use regular rules for it. 2. Throughout your game any friendly NPCs could potentially join your band. During a Fellowship Phase you can choose "Recruit Allies" as a Fellowship Undertaking.
Wow, these rules are much more in depth than I imagined they would be! Thank you for for the video, very clear and easy to follow.

I agree that it does initially sound complicated but your video definitely helps! Thanks!
When will you do a review on Moria?
It will probably still be a while. I have a few Alien videos to do, and I need to find the time to actually play Moria a bit.
@@willattheworldsend OK, you take all the time you need, and don't feel like you have to play just for UA-cam and have fun! 😃:)

Are all the Strider mode rules contained within? Does it make the Strider mode booklet redundant?

I appreciate your video's, thank you for it. I'm curious - if you were to create a new TOR game for new players, what will you incorporate from Moria?

@@willattheworldsend thank you! All makes sense

Currently they're not anywhere to download. But if you have the Moria book they're on pages 227 and 228.
