I found the dagger brushes to be far more useful to paint lines than liners. They provide so much more accuracy and stability!
Also I can't get enough of the Rosemary Eclipse synthetics. They feel amazing and are so easy to clean.

@@FlorentFargesarts Thank you so much for the videos you have made! I recently tried oil paint for the first time over digital and acrylic and couldn't have done it without the knowledge you have provided. :)

@@nauci The versatility of having either a point or a flat edge in the same brush I also found to be pretty convenient for painting, waves and their shadows, etc. I use it short side first mostly.

Exactly! The dagger is quite an allrounder. A good dagger also has a very sharp point, perfect for tiny spots. I got really fond of them thanks to Andrew Tischler. ;-)

The hair going crazy after cleaning with soap and water used to drive me nuts but not any more after I start using Safflower oil for storing.

Can you make a video where you show your favourite paints, mediums, canvases and cardboards? Or a video about the best and worst oil painting products. It would be great, thanks.

Nice video. I use daggers and angle shaders all the time. They are great for geometric work and tight spaces.

Referring to your brushes as " generals and foot soldiers" your so adorable!
On the dagger brush, IAM a landscape painter, I find it useful for tree leaves . Thank you for your videos. I love watching all of them.

This was interesting. Thank you. I also have some brushes I don't use, and don't really know how to use. And because I started in acrylic, moved to watercolor, and now to oils, I have accumulated so many for the different uses. I would like you to show us how you clean your oil brushes; that's always a challenge for me. You're always inspiring. Thanks!

I have just about every brush imaginable and I keep playing with them for different affects. I suspect that as I get proficient, I'll settle on a few that best meet my needs. Happily, most of the different types are available at relatively low cost. I need to check your past videos. It would be great to see how you use your favorite brushes in a painting demonstration.

The dagger can be used for hroad (ish!) strokes or detail with the tip. Check out Andrew Tischler demonstrating his 'Tisch dagger' produced by Rosemary and Co 😎

I PERSONALLY THINK THAT ROSEMARY&CO. MAKED THE BEST BRUSHES. BRANDS LIKE DA VINCI AND RAPHAEL ALSO MAKE GOOD BRUSHES TOO.

Thank you for an interesting video. I bought cheaper brushes when I started out before I knew what kind I actually liked to use, the cheap brushes I should chuck out as they are useless, but I keep them to let my grand children paint with lol. I paint n acrylic mostly but have dabbled in oils, I'm still learning to paint in oils. I learn loads from watching you. I've not really established my favourites in oil painting yet but for my acrylic painting I love using my art Sherpa cats tongue (mostly my size 4)(available in jacksons art) I've heard they are also good for painting with oils. I've yet to test that theory though but I can see how they would be good for oils too. My next favourite brushes are filbert brushes, I currently own daler rowney both system 3 and graduate as well as galeria filberts, good brushes to use.

I've only recently found your channel, and love it. Subscribed after watching a few, then searched to see if you had one on brushes. Would you consider re-doing one on brushes and describing how you use each one, along with what type of bristles each has? The fan brush, for instance, looks like it might be badger, but you didn't say. You did say on some of the others.
I love filberts and use them the most. Primarily soft synthetic bristles. I dislike hog bristle brushes, but know they're standard for oil paint and I'm not sure why. A round hog bristle seems useless to me. How would you have much control, or is there some other use for them I'm missing? Used to have some bright and flat badger brushes I loved but they went to brush heaven long ago and now I can't find them anywhere.

I have many more brushes than I should, but I think I have an irrational fear about not having enough brushes, then I end up with some that I will probably never use.

Florent, i’m having a problem with my brushes wearing down too fast, and I mean within two or three months noticeably wearing down. I use rosemary brushes their bristle filberts. I use masterpiece classic cotton canvases. The only thing I can think of is the canvas when I paint on it it sounds like I’m rubbing on sandpaper. I’m thinking I need to gesso these canvases two or three times ! what do you think?

I use a lot of different flats. Like you I bought a dagger because I saw it used on some video but I can't find a practical use :D
The use of brushes is a very personal thing and evolves while you learn the gestures of applying colors, so I guess it's really different from one to another
(lol at cultura brush if I saw it correctly :D)

I basically paint only with the same dozen brushes all the time. I have the rest just in case... but sometimes I find a unique use for one type of brush for a specific painting.
