@@SourceOfBeing A very close second, but Sankore is utterly divine. Prophecy tells us that a glimpse of the sacred university of Sankore utterly brings sublime knowledge and power to the sightseer.
£331 - Sejong of Joseon widely known as Sejong the Great, was the fourth ruler of the Joseon dynasty of the University of Sankore. Despite ascending to the throne after his father's voluntary abdication in 1418, Sejong was a mere figurehead; King Taejong continued to hold the real power and govern the country up until his death in 1422. Sejong was the sole monarch for the next 28 years, although after 1439 he became increasingly ill, and starting from 1442, his eldest son, Crown Prince Yi Hyang (the future King Munjong), acted as regent.
It should be noted that Taejong was a key figure in the revolution that started the Joseon Dynasty. A co-founder of the Joseon Dynasty I’d say. He has killed a lot of political opponents at this time. This was also a big part in how he took political power in becoming king. He is a rather controversial figure. His policy is absolute monarchy. He took power away from the nobles and consolidated central authority on himself but he has also improved the lives of the common people. Not surprising how Sejong was a figurehead until his father’s death. If Taejong was in the game, I imagine he would be a more military-minded leader.
I don't think Sejong is all that powerful but he's more interesting than he seems IMO. I like civs that really point you into doing things a bit unorthodox and trying to maximize the culture boost by spreading out rather than beelining tech while trying to squeeze as much science as you can is a fun little diversion. Korea is at least A tier anyway regardless so he's solid.
If you put an idustrial zone in-between the lay lines in the desert, put an aquaduct west of that with a city either to the south east or direct east of the aquaduct, that will give you a solid +8 industrial zone in the centre of the empire that can hit 4 cities, or 5 should you take Mbamba, with a settle to the north that has a decent seowon on top of the cattle (the one above the copper & cattle tiles) which grants access to the ocean too. Plus Jinju can put down a decent +4 industrial zone, from an aquaduct & dam on the river, to the west of the sugar tile which leaves the seowon of Jeonju alone. Plus it would put an eventual canal city to the east in range too. You want to go big on science, thus seowons take priority, but you're going to need a good industrial base for the science win, so making use of the AoE of industrial zones is a good idea imo.
It's also helped along by the industrial golden age of heartbeat of steam, which gives production equal to science adjacency. So in that era, Korea is super super strong.
All i can see is that easy +5 industrial zone in your capitol, with another +5 or better in the desert. Aquaduct to the left of the capitol, drop an industry between all those strategic. Beautiful.
The first game in which I had Nzinga Mbande as an opponent, she was my immediate neighbour and was soon moving her units aggressively toward the city state that sat between our closest cities. Fortunately, just on the far side of her I found Alexander, who was, as you might expect, quite willing to jump straight into a joint war against her (she'd denounced me by then). After the two of us gave her plenty of grief in said war (and I liberated that city state), she ceased to be a problem for the remainder of the game. 'Twas the ideal outcome.
Dang I just had a game where the Kongo traveled nearly 20 tiles from a secondary city to attack me. Bc same continent and Deity. I had no walls bc I was completely isolated and didn't think they'd march so far 😢
Nobody expects the Congolese inquisition. Their chief weapon is surprise. Surprise and long-distance marching. Wait! Their two chief weapons are surprise, long-distance marching, and a slavish devotion to religious relics. Damn! Their three chief weapons are… hang a moment. Do you mind if we leave and then come back and try this again?
@@christopherangstadt926 Yikes! 20 tiles is _far_ Although, in hindsight, it's probably best to prepare for a possible war the moment you meet any AI who's certain to hate you (in the early game at least; they tend to be less inclined to act on it later into the game).
Just a thought, but I think Korea plays well with the City Patron Goddess pantheon if you want to settle wide and build a Seowon immediately and 25% faster
I actually took Korean in Highschool! I was Ms.Shen's best student. There is an 'R' sound in the 'L', in other words their 'L' is said with a curled tongue. The 'A' is short and the 'H' is slightly aspirated. Its kinda hard to type in words but yeah.
Old Korea has a bonus to playing tall, but this Korea is definitely a wide Korea. Basically you go a few eras doing regular Korea things and spend maybe the final monumentality golden age to hoard settlers. Then you pop them down and build seowons in them. Can get a huge boost to culture and science that way. But this ability is ok at the best, nothing great. Keeps you topped off on culture. Helps for civics that give corps and armies. Basically it strengthens the boom for the industrial era. But Korea is still good fun nevertheless
there is a mod called Golden Age-brave new world for civ 6 that is a major overhaul of most of the mechanics. you should look into doing a game of that
Yeah the Hermetic Order are weird because while they can be powerful, they have two main problems and one smaller one: a) It's always a gamble picking them. You know where you are with super monuments, an extra economic policy slot, or a powerful melee unit. Leylines spawn randomly and importantly you can't see *where* they've spawned until you've already joined the Order. So you might get incredibly good leylines like Ursa here, or incredibly poor ones. b) Their big thing - leylines producing yields depending on the great people you've earned - comes in quite late in the Industrial era and have a bit of a "win-more" reputation since if you've generated a lot of great people you're probably in a strong position anyway. Contrast that with the Voidsingers' Chorus, which kicks in two eras earlier and can completely turn a game around. c) They're no good as Arabia or Portugal since they're replacing their unique Universities. Granted those two are almost always going to be picking Voidsingers or Owls respectively, so maybe that's not so much of an issue. Saying that, that doesn't mean the Hermetic Order can't be strong, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Ursa can do with them here.
@@PaulPower4 I use the mod for them called hermetic order unleashed, which lets you get the bonus yields right from the start. I like them because they make city planning easier; just put that district near a leyline and you’re good. The mod doesn’t feel OP because early in they game you have no great people anyway and the yields are inferior to improved hex’s and none of them really generate extra food. It capstone ability was replaced with leylines with breathtaking appeal generates 2 energy. I still think the other three are better even with the mod, but they are fun.
Question, why didn't the first Seowan give you 7 era score? You get the 4 for your unique district, but since it has 4 adjacency, doesn't it also give the boost for a 3 plus adjacency district?
Alas you can't get the era score from large district adjacency from ANY unique district - same issue with Suguba, Hanza, Lavra etc - always been an issue / feature of Civ 6 for some reason!
