Wow. Pretty cool dude. So surprised by the vintage speed stuff. There products are pricey and to not fit right sucks. Seems like the engine size and header played a factor but not clear what happened. Anyways at least the seat poncho fit. Those things are cool. I will definitely check them out. Hopefully they make bay window stuff!😊
Timely video and info; I’ve been looking at same issue w exhaust. Keep up the good work. Might be interesting to get an up close video tour of the GW 2.2.
Sweet editing🤙. Love that new exhaust!! Wasn't ready for all that, thing is nice!! Your 02 should be fine in that spot (bummer they didn't have a bung, but good that your cat did!!), you could maybe take the bolts out of the cat and turn it to the next spot so the 02 points toward the engine and not stick down. You're totally right about it burning up your cat quicker if no oxygen sensor hooked up. Also brass nuts on exhaust stuff work awesome, they usually always come out and dont rust together/freeze up like a steel nut does. I have some on my van just because im too picky😂.. I also anti-seize EVERYTHING🔩🔧 Seat covers look good too! Ive been low key keeping an eye out for seat covers. Ill check them out🤙. Nice vid dude🎉
Thanks man! Yeah, I was thinking to spin the cat around, but it looks like it won't fit any other way. It's kind of off center and won't clear the valence. The exhaust came with a test pipe that had the spot for the o2. I guess they expected everyone to just get rid of the cat given the chance. Definitely going with the brass nuts next time. The ones on the exhaust studs are brass, but everything else isn't.
It's been great. I haven't had any issues with it so far, but I probably wouldn't buy one again with the customer service issues. I've had many people tell me they also had problems with customer service.
@@gottasplit5707 Thx! They do have a pretty bad rep for customer service. I have the 2.1L -- tho my 87 is a twin to yours in other respects, with the flashsilber paint and SA headlight conversion. It sounds like most of the problems you encountered were related to the conversions needed for the 1.9L system, so hopefully that just won't be an issue for me. The VS is so much quieter (thanks for the audio comparisons!), and that is my main objective, so ... it's really tempting.
It's nice anyway that for this car you don't have to search the entire internet to get a muffler and end-pipe. Finding an end-pipe for my ACL engine is challenging. The muffler was a bit of a hassle but I found it. Would rather have Rust free steel version.
What a mission! Glad you were able to make it work. It looks great!! 🙂🤙 Do you have an email address? I live in Cutler Bay and wanted to ask you some questions regarding what shop you trust here in South Florida. I need to shim my flexplate. Safe travels 🙂
Thanks! Sure, my email is gottasplitadventure@gmail.com . Honestly I haven't found a shop around here that I 100% trust. I've been to a few shops and have always been disappointed with how the work was done, or how long it took to do the not so great work.
Did you purchase the exhaust direct from Vintage Speed or a US agent? I’m looking at purchasing the Sport Flow twin tailpipe system and headers for my 81 air cooled Vanagon. Your system turned out great!! Thanks!
@@gottasplit5707 Thanks, I just placed my order on their website!! I’m rebuilding my engine to a 2257cc with twin 40’s plus this exhaust. Thanks for the videos and ideas!
@@gottasplit5707 out of curiosity, roughly how long did it take to arrive at your door, from the day of purchase? I purchased the whole exhaust for my 2.1 from them a week ago and have yet to receive even a tracking number
@@gottasplit5707 Right on. Thanks for the prompt reply! Are we talking “a while” as in a couple more weeks or should I pretend I never ordered the exhaust and be pleasantly surprised when it arrives?
...those are some nice touches! I have the GW muffler but it seems a bit loud for my taste. (deep rumble and a bit louder than I expected) I'm more into the stealthier sound. But, I'll live with it for now.
Thanks! I was thinking the same thing when looking up videos of all the different mufflers on the market. I liked the quietness of the original muffler, but stainless steel is a must. I do have to say that the GoWesty customer service and instructions are probably going to be a lot better than what I got. What a pain to get everything sorted.
I know. They are crazy expensive. I got a deal on my splits exhaust at a show. But it has lasted well. Probably the last exhaust I will have to buy for it.
@@VWbugger Sadly no. the pipe is a little off center so it only fits on one way. I'll have to get a fitting put in the correct spot on the mid pipe eventually.
You can rotate the catalytic converter 120 degrees and get the proper angle for the o2 sensor.
We loved that, thank you for the Love and Support of out products- The Venture Libre Team
You're welcome! Thank you guys for such a great product! 😁

Hey how is that Vintage Speed muffler holding up? I've seen some posts on forums suggesting they have some reliability issues.

Custom Service and Vintage Speed are like oil and water.
What were the parts numbers for the gowesty exhaust brackets you ordered? i've got the same 1.9L exhaust on a 2.1 block.
The brackets to convert a 1.9L mustache bar Part #: GVW-ENG-MNT-ADPT
The muffler saddles Part #: SADDLE
