@@KS-jl4zn Imagine how many times Jones would have been beat if he had the average arm and leg length of a man his height. Grappling and striking so different. He had more reach than a man he fought 7 inches taller.
okay yes Merigali is incredible, but can we give some props to Pedro for taking on the Gi king, outweighed and out heightened AND out experienced (Merigali has been a blackbelt longer)?
Danaher’s game looks so simple, deadly and effective, all in one. Reminds me of old school Roger Gracie jiujitsu, mount, pressure, submit. Good to see lights of Meregali and Dalpra bringing some excitement back in the GI!
Love how Pedro went for it. Any truth he was the 7th person in line to be asked to go against Meregali? Anyone think the outcome would've been different if it was no-gi?
Theres always the potential that Marinho could win the takedown battle with lighting fast blast doubles and win a decision. But I feel Merigalli would eventually get top position and hold it the resr of the fight at somepoint
If they gave us freaky open weight superfights, which I wish they would, I would want to see something like Musumeci vs Meregali in gi and Musumeci vs Ryan in no gi...I mean, we know how it would end but it would be interesting.
I don't understand why he held the lapel with the left hand while also working an underhook with the right. He needed to commit to the back or go all out with the underhook to get back up. Seems like he locked himself in place.

@@peteryozell7325 Agreed. People have recency bias. Gordan has no world titles in the Gi. And Meregali only has 3 black belt world titles in the Gi. So, what is the intrigue in that match? How in the world would it be the biggest match in jiu-jitsu history? When Roger and Buchecha met, Roger was coming back from retirement after a long reign (7 black belt world titles). While Buchecha was dominating in the Gi at the time, winning 7 black belt world titles (weight and absolute). Basically, having a bigger match than Buchecha vs Roger is not going to happen anytime soon.
Newer guys might not know that matches like this would happen multiple times a year with all the big names competing in one tournament. Now it is only the adcc that draws all the big names and you probably won't be able to see the match up you want. In the past you had guys like galvao, Roger, braulio, marcelo, kron, jt torres, keenan, buchecha, xande, mendes brothers, rodolfo etc compete multiple times a year. @@wrybread nothing to do with steroids. People still love gi training, but techniques like worm guard were making watching gi matches less interesting.
