Stephen Lee 12 Years, John Higgins just suspended , when the sport was rocked by a report in the News of the World that alleged he had agreed to lose frames in four matches in return for £261,000 during a secretly recorded meeting in the Ukraine. But that's alright he only admitted "intentionally giving the impression to others that they were agreeing to act in breach of the betting rules" and failing to report the matter promptly to the governing body, World Snooker. SNOOKER HYPOCRISY.

      Do some research.
John Higgins never fixed a match.
He was on camera "talking" about taking money to fix frames. But he never actually done it. He claimed he was just going along with it for fear of his life and never had any actual intention of going through with it. Stephen Lee was a totally different kettle of fish. It was PROVEN he fixed multiple games.

Yeah. Higgins should have been treated worse than Stephen Lee was because there was no video of Lee TALKING about going to fix the match. Only proof of Lee cheating is a bunch of lousy shots that an average club player would have potted. Barry Hearns is the biggest crook in the snooker game. I really despise the guy. He gives of an aura of “ Fk you Jack, I’m the boss and what I say goes.” An arrogant jumped-up spiv that I wouldn’t trust to tell me the right time. I am a fan of snooker but this aint justice this type of public enquiry condems them in the public eye before they had a cance to prove innocence or otherwise .....end of the day it happens in every sport and anyone ripping off betting companies in match fixing aint that bad. People can call them cheats and call for them to be banned for life. Another way to look at it is these are betting compnies who mostly use offshore tax avoidence in their own business setups and who's business causes such addiction that ruins lives worldwide and causes suicides deppression and all manner of MH problems in people. Lastly they wouldn't have done this if they didn't have pretty good evidence against them.

(Assuming there has been match fixing) - This isn't just about ripping off a betting company. Any given betting company might even have profitted out of it, depends on the specific odds and how much was bet with them on each player in each respective match that was fixed - fixing a match does not necessarily mean the betting companies end up paying more out.
How about the people who placed bets? They were ripped off too when the person they bet to win threw the game. How about the viewing public who paid to watch a match that was not a fixed farce? Your argument justifies criminal activity when it's against a company you don't like, that leaves a wide scope for people to be corrupt when they decide it is okay and simply ignores all the other people who lost money; the public. It brings the sport into disrepute, it is criminal, immoral, and it has caused innocent people to lose money.
Match fixing is not some kindly stance against the "bad" betting companies as you suggest. Match fixing is a criminal organisation (that almost certainly is involved in multiple criminal activities) ensuring it wins money by betting on the one who isn't throwing the match (winning money at the expense of the public). It is about ensuring a criminal gang makes money, you think this brings some good to the world? I don't see how you can justify it.

  • @corny5128

They can get away with it quite easily, it's not just missing shots, that's the most obvious method, the more subtle method is to just slowly drop out of position until the next shot is untenable and then just play a safety. There are MANY subtle ways of throwing a match so that NO ONE would be aware.

I believe that 'bet in play' is the real problem. Two low ranked players can arrange a match of best of seven to go 3-0 either way, the odds of a comeback to 3-3 would be quite high, so bets laid on that and a good return for either player to then win 4-3. So two players can arrange a match to go 3-3 and then play the decider for real in order to get better money than nothing for losing a first round match which is the case in snooker right now.
Pay for travel and accomodation, food, practise time and then get nothing if you lose, that 20,00 wage for the first year means nothing for a first timer pressured by losing their first three first round matches.
When you watch the match against John Higgins that Stephen Lee was accused of throwing it's impossible to see which shots he deliberately missed in order to lose as both he and John Higgins were crap that day, the only evidence came from betting companies that decided that there were unusual betting patterns around that/those matches. When one considers that the owner of bet365 makes a million pounds a day, that's the owner/CEO not the whole company, then a couple of hundred/thousand here and there around a few snooker matches is chicken feed.

It's very easy to spot wildly unexpected misses, which is how matches routinely get fixed. That or a poor break-off shot. It's much more difficult to prove malfeasance, as you need evidence of material transactions taking place.

    • @Maffchops
      @Maffchops Рік тому +1

It's as Higgins said in his infamous sting - it doesn't even need to be a missed shot, it can be a slightly misjudged positional shot and you don't have a way to continue a break. Then you misjudge a safety shot the length of the table and your opponent has a chance to win the frame. How do you prove that someone made that mistake on purpose, given how hard the game is and how much pressure there is on some of these shots?

    • @adrianwright8685

Bringing the game into disrepute like this, doesn't matter who you are, if you're guilty of match-fixing, you should be banned for life. All the very top players are vastly experienced, they know inside out they would never do anything like betting on matches. You would have thought having Stephen Lee & a few others in the same situation as this, no other player would have dared to even think of doing such a thing. Judd Trump's comments about the situation is a lot closer to the mark to what I believe is going on and the decisions by the WPBSA is a classic example of what Barry Hearn said about cuesports organisations that are run by blazers that aren't in touch with the real world and this situation of players being suspended during an investigation, is too much of a "Guilty until proven innocent", when it should be the other way around.

He seemed genuinely keen and said it would pay his mortgage. If you google Higgins and match fixing on UA-cam you will probably gfind the clip.

In the coming years the sport of Snooker will primarily be played out of Asia. The players from Asia will dominate just like they did in the sport of Womens Golf for example due to the work ethic that they possess and the fact that they even have University Scholarships available and they have hundreds of Clubs as opposed to what the rest of the World has available for young players. Snooker has almost zero appeal in North America while Pool is still very popular. It's not surprising that betting manipulation is being carried out due to the lack of prize money for the lower ranked players and the high cost of World travel/Accomodations etc. but that still does not excuse what is potentially happening here by any means. Any Corruption must be weeded out and appropriate punishment given to those involved which includes not only the Players but the handlers as well. A short suspension will not be enough to halt what is going on though!!!
