    If I were comissioner, maybe I'd try this: salary on any player who STAYED on their original drafted team is not taxed. Mega luxury tax on all other players. This will incentivize player development/loyalty and reasonable max salaries b/c those players become otherwise untradeable. Super teams thru the draft is good. Super team through trades is bad.

      No, that is a bad idea, bad for the league, bad for the players and indirectly causes bad effects for the teams, but reduced some taxes could be imply.

    I wish the NBA didn't penalize teams for making great draft choices. Steph, Dray, Klay, Kevon, and Kuminga should be able to stay without counting for 100% of their pay.

      i agree, but those great draft choices still have extreme value across the rest of the league, and apparently they want to incentivize players to look at other offers from teams with cap space, or for front offices to shuffle the deck. they don’t want to see dynasties last as long as the warriors

      I don't think he can restructure a deal like in the NFL. They need to stick with the deal until the end of the contract and then take a pay cut when doing their new contract. Aside from that, Steph has endorsements and other deals he can consider, but just about every person in a professional setting rarely takes a paycut willingly. The only time I've seen players take paycuts to keep a team together was in the NFL. The dynastic 49ers of the 80s and 90s had players take paycuts to keep the team together. Either that or Bill Walsh would simply trade a star player if he felt like a player was on the downside of his peak. (see lott, montana, craig, etc)

    The Dubs finished out of the playoffs with the highest salary in the league? Lacob is not stupid. There is not way I can think of to get the Dubs to a top 4 team. Klay has to decide if he wants to finish with the Dubs. If he does he will have to sign for less than $20M. Even so the Dubs will be a mediocre team but at least they will have a future and they will not have a stupid cost structure for the team they have.

    Putting aside how stupid the NBA salary system is, they really should make an exception for teams who pay max or near max contract to multiple of their own drafted players. OKC might face some trouble in the near future and they will have to make sacrifice, it's really sad. This idea of parity is only good on paper. Sadly it's not very realistic in the real world

    If I am a new GM who is trying to keep his job, which Mike Dunleavy is btw, then waving CP3 and Klay is probably the easiest logical decision one can make (just stick with the young players and stay under the tax threshold). That being said, I know he used to be a very competitive basketball player, so he might not be devoted to emotions like a like a businessman robot like other GMs in the league and actually go for a big trade and help Steph win another chip.
    If, by some miracle, somebody read all of this, I have no idea where I am going with this as a Warriors fan. I have no idea what the right decision is. Do I look for the future with Kuminga and podz, or is Steph still have another miracle championship run on his gas tank?

      Steph certainly has, the rest of team not so much though... Wiggins and Dray make way too much money for players of their value. If they wanna bring back Klay you have another person making too much. Without Steph taking a big salary cut, which he absolute will not take, and bringing in another at least high level player we're basically looking at a lottery team. The only way this team will have a playoff spot at the end of the season is by them eating the giant tax and bringing in another star.

    • @LucasX-od8kw
      @LucasX-od8kw 10 днів тому +2

      Because if you want to have any chance to get players to complement Steph, you have to get below the tax to have the resources to make deals. If Steph had cut the team some slack and signed for "only" 40mill instead of 50 mill, they wouldn't have this problem. OTOH, he did cut them some slack on his first post-rookie contract. So, they are paying him now because they did not pay him earlier. But rules change, and they can't make this work any more without freeing up money to get more costly players who aren't legacy players (like Klay).

    Free agency, player salaries, and salary cap rules are so effin stupid. It's like trying to deal with a phone plan designed by a bunch of marketing and lawyer departments.
    Just have hard player/team caps and minimums and done with it. No need for all this shat.

      Also, if you are watching at low quality / resolution, the audio is compromised and can sound roboty.

    Things are looking grim, these free agents aren’t championship players… it’s really over…that blown #2 pick was way too big of a whiff.
