    I like the inclusion of the daylight sensor. I do find that there are days when the lights come on too early and other times when the lights come on too late all because of variability in the cloud cover.

    Highly recommend that you pull all smart “stuff” that is built into the house. Smart homes just confuses and deters people from purchasing. Some people do want the smart “stuff” but then support becomes a nightmare as they think that they can support it themselves, but can’t so they continuously call you for help. Your mileage may vary.

    • @handydadtv

      I excluded “all smart home devices” in the listing. Not to prevent confusion for the buyer. Because these things are valuable and I want them.

    Nice place but HOA must rank as one of the stupidest ideas ever. The idea of a bunch of interfering busy bodies telling me what I can or cannot install on the outside of MY house is offensive.

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  9 місяців тому

      An HOA is more than just rules. It’s also a collective bargaining organization that negotiates services for everyone in the community. Like trash and landscaping.
      If I was staying, I would definitely have applied to get approval for permanent lights. Not impossible.

      This is such a foreign idea here in Australia. We have Owners Corps for apartment buildings and attached townhouses etc (aka strata) but for my house which I own in suburbia… no one tells me what I can or can’t do provided it’s within council rules and building code (ie I can’t build right to my property line etc).
      water, gas, electricity etc is all a direct relationship with the supplier, garbage, sewerage etc is all handled by council and included in our quarterly rates (approx $250/quarter).

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  9 місяців тому

      @matthewlewis5631 Home Owners Associations are only found in private communities here in the US. My next house will be as you describe as “suburbia” where I only have to obey the town laws and construction code.

    Nice house and thanks for the tour. Why did you decide on this ecosystem for y'all's smart home? Just curious if have you ever tried Apple Home? Will y'all being moving into another home with an HOA or a place that will allow you to install permanent Christmas lights?

      @handydadtv  9 місяців тому +2

      New house has no HOA and will definitely have permanent Christmas lights! I’ve been an Amazon Echo user since they were first released and I never tried anything else. However, the multi room audio has been problematic lately and I’m looking into Sonos for the new house, which isn’t as open a floor plan so one speaker won’t cut it.

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  9 місяців тому

      I loved Insteon. I was stunned and so hurt, without any warning, like my wife left me.
      I’m a content creator so I immediately looked for alternatives to help my audience. I initially went with HomeSeer which has an AWESOME Insteon integration. But I always wanted to conquer Home Assistant (I tried several times) because it was so popular with my viewers. I did not like Home Assistant’s Insteon integration, especially compared to HomeSeer and ISY. Plus I wanted to explore other protocols, like Z-Wave, Zigbee and Lutron.

    Hey HandyDad! Exciting to hear that your moving! Hopefully that means more projects and renovations.. however I’m sure it’s a bittersweet feeling leaving the home you invested so much time into making ‘smart’. I wanted to ask what Wi-Fi drives your smart home? I have A LOT of smart plugs/bulbs/switches that operate from Alexa, however my Wi-Fi oftentimes lets me down as only part of my routines play due to lack of bandwidth or 2.4ghz. Also what community is this HOA located in. We are in single family home in Central Jersey and considering moving to an HOA maintained area so i don’t have to keep up with the grass/snow. Lol.

    We moved last year and I built a pretty expansive smart home and while I was doing it, said to myself, “what happens if I move”. Well, I look forward to seeing how you transition all those devices to the new home. Personally, I would dread having to set everything up again, but I suppose that is the price we pay for our nerdiness 🤓
    Good luck and I’ll be following along
