Your tests are the best I've ever seen, and I don't say that lightly. For the price on some of the equipment out there, I expect a representative from the manufacturer to show up at my house when I get home to spend the 90 minutes required to care for it. Equipment is meant to be used. The fact that you include real functionality testing (e.g., putting your wet tent in the dryer for a low-temp tumble instead of meticulously drying the seams with a Q-Tip) is invaluable. Thank you! (Note: I'm far more heated about this than the comment seems. Many cuss words were edited out between my brain and the keyboard.)
I'm a tent kinda guy and I'd be a little leery about throwing my TCOP in the dryer. I have a place to hang it for a day or 2. I have a Eureka Solitaire that's a little like that Snugpak. The Solitaire is a little claustrophobic in a thunderstorm but no leaks. Thanks for the review.
Like Joakim said looks the same as the ionosphere in green .which I have and it's a good bit of kit so far .haven't been in it when there's been bad weather do love your grunt test .can't wait to see how you get on with that helikon tex jacket. 😀👍 OUT
The tent pole sleeves always make me nervous but those looked pretty forgiving. So far all my snug-pak gear has been more minus than plus in regards to breathability but I live in the South East US so the humidity can be impressive.
Nice job . Intelligently tested , and presented . All that said , it's a no go for me . Weighs too much , and Gubs don't do orange tents . Well done . Stay safe out there ... Gubs
I hope this passes all of your testing. I quit buying Snugpak gear due to some poor quality issues in last couple of years. The hammock with no see-um mesh, jungle blanket, under blanket and top blanket were all great stuff but then I bought an Ionosphere. It was poorly sewn and leaked like a sieve in the joints; and even around the zippers. A cocoon also had some sewing issues with loose threads. I'm a military-oriented gear head, love my surplus stuff and would love to have this Journey Solo but in "normal" Snugpak color, OD green or dark brown. The dryer hack does work well if no heat is used; just tumble and check the gear every half hour or so to ensure it's ok. I even softened a large sheet of Tyvek (groundsheet) to the point it doesn't make that crinkle sound and it rolls or folds very easily to fit in my pack. This was after washing it on a delicate cycle with a water softener product.
I read online that the inner tent is 235cm long but it looks a lot smaller than that from the outside, it does however look much more spacious on the inside. This is one of the tents I'm looking at getting but the problem I have is being 6ft 7" and it's really hard trying to find backpacker tents that I would fit in with all my gear and has a decent HH rating too.. and is reasonably priced ofc
Ive got a Mountain warehouse brand very similar to this also from the UK I believe ? and it looks almost identical but was alot cheaper in O.D. green . This was a great test as usual , I appreciate your efforts thanks man
Definitely roomy, so you don't feel like you're sleeping in a coffin. Wish they had a Green version instead of obnoxious orange! That's good that it passed the first test.👍
Looks like a solid set up. I thought I’d seen someone else do review and it was an OD green. I’m still not getting notifications of your videos not sure what’s up with that
Looks like a good first test. The Journey looks like the civilian Snugpak Ionosphire? I've heard conflicting reports on these items. Interested to see what you find. Nate
What's the point of having gear that can't a beating? I've been and fixing PC's for 29 years now, and I don't build PC's that need to be babied. I build them to take a beating, and the same goes for gear IMHO.
The only issue with flame resistant fabric is it really really reduces fabric strength. And same with anything pu coated. Polyester doesn't absorb as much water as nylon but nylon is stronger and nylon with silicone is best for strength and waterproofness. Any tent with flame resistant fabric is inherently weaker which sucks cuz it seems like a nice concept.
Snugpak Journey Solo Tent: good or not? Let's waterproof it first!

Great test for this tent in rain, wind and hail. Sounds like perfect camping weather if you are as Grunt Proof tough as your gear !
It looks like a orange Snugpak Ionosphere if you want it in green.

I don't get notifications on my feed when you post a new vid. I have subscribed and clicked that bell and enabled all notifications

Cool thanks! My biggest issue with Snugpak is their garbage zippers

Good to know, thanks!
Thanx Randell, very roomy. I would buy that in forest green or dark brown. That tent is very loud. Thanx for your vid
Nice. Thanks for the info. I believe ISO is insurance services organization. They do fire resistant ratings and such.
Cool thanks!

All I can do is complain to the masters...but thanks. It seems like this is very similar to the Ionosphere, so I'll add that in the full review.
I didn't get a notification either.
Gr8 review Randal. Looks gucci.

They make it in ranger green bro not just that orange 👍🏼
I thought this video was a home run.
So its like the ionosphere just orange.
Yes
