Have you ever been rudely awakened in the middle of the night by leg muscle cramps? Or been sitting or standing for a long period of time and your calf muscles start to cramp up?
There are many causes for your leg cramps and among them are being dehydrated, muscle fatigue, poor blood circulation, depletion or imbalance of calcium, magnesium, & potassium around the muscles.
What could also be causes of leg muscle cramps are the medications used for asthma, high blood pressure & high cholesterol, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's, & Parkinson's disease. You should also know that more serious conditions can cause chronic cramps in your legs such as blood & circulatory problems, nerves being pinched, or neurological issues.

Ok.. i usually get leg cramps at night and i would scream and cry and stay still until it went away BUT i figured something out that is helping now. Once i am feeling the leg cramp i QUICKLY wake up and jump out of the bed and stand up.. this works 100% and ever since ive figured it out ive been doing that routine and it works.
My cramps are really bad... I can't even think enough to do all that. My calf muscles start tightening and pulse everywhere. I'm scared of cramps 😂
9dragonslaya If you have frequent cramps you may want to get it checked out by a doctor. Some of the simplest things to do is to make sure you're drinking enough water and getting enough sleep and not eating foods that are irritating to your body.
You can still practice these even when you aren't cramping and it might help to prevent them.
Mine just woke me up from sleep which is when I get them so often. Either I'll drink pickle juice or take every night a pill that I found at walmart that's for cramps and have been the best thing ever for me and it's a natural thing not addicting but I have found that if I don't take it in two days that I finish them I start back up.
Mine too my legs cramp up so much, like every day and they don't stop. They keep me from sleeping and they never stop hurting. Even if I do a bunch of maussages and stretches. I feel you!!!

Lower leg cramps are a common, but they shouldn't be an everyday "normal" occurrence. For people that have calf cramps frequently, having them last less than one minute is a blessing. So it's perfectly good that you had a milder leg cramp. If you're not having them frequently, then you shouldn't worry. Now you know how to take care of them so hopefully they last much less than one minute!

Thank you, this helped me. My cramp was not in the calf, rather it was is in the shin and this exercise helped. Also, just crossing my legs at the ankles, the top foot simply resting on top of the other, NOT pointing the toes inward, I could still do the resistance exercise with the bottom foot. This way I didn't trigger a cramp in the foot on top. Thank you! 😀👍

drink a cup of warm water 2 tblspoons of salt!.... thats if you can make it to the kitchen...trust me ive had severe cramps... i now know to supplement daily with magnesium and potassium.... drinking salt water helps instantly...if i get a cramp.

There is another simple exercise that is , immediately stand straight and support your self, steadily stand on your toes and back. If you do it three or four times the tension will get released.

Last night for the first time in my life I had leg cramps in BOTH legs (calf muscles) and they were uncontrollably bending upward (the opposite of this video). I woke up my wife and had her try to bend my feet downward but it only got worse. I decided to try and stand on my feet.
I had difficulty getting out of bed and walking, it was horrible. I went to the kitchen and took some magnesium and potassium supplements and within a few minutes the cramping finally went away.
Yesterday I did many hours of strenuous yard work on my feet and sweated a lot, (practically all day on my feet). I figure I was dehydrated and this is what caused the cramping overnight.

I have had these for 40+ years. Usually get 1-2 per year. I learned stretching the calf before sleep helps. Also massaging the calf DURING the attack helps. Finally, yes while the ones that wake you up are bad, good Lord the ones you have while awake are life changing.

I've had foot and leg cramps my whole life. The cause may be diet, which is not my point. Either way. If you are sleeping and get a leg or foot cramp, if you stand up with both feet on the ground, applying pressure, from your body weight, to your legs, you will likely find relief. Someone may call this a band-aid cure or whatever but it works. Stand up and find relief. After that, you may want to figure out the causes etc. BUT when you are screaming in agony, you can try this method so you can find relief. This advise is based on my 40 years of getting these cramps. My father told me this simple method as a kid and for me, it works 100% of the time. Not 99% but 100%. This is just my experience I am sharing to help others. Yes, I should probably figure out how to prevent them in the first place but this advice is what it is. I have tried eating banana's but it never worked. I'm now looking on-line and it may be Magnesium I'm deficient in and not Potassium. I hope this helps people to at least get some relief. Leg cramps are horrible!!!

You can do this on both lower legs. You might have to use a little more stronger contraction/ resistance on the leg that has a "bigger" cramp.

How do you deal with a cramp if you leg is folded while sitting on the floor with nothing to hold. Currently I am sitting on the floor in agony and this happened during and after my run. While I was running my leg started to have a cramp more than 3 times and I eventually had to stop because of it. While running I ran for three hours and when I got back inside I rehydrated and ate dinner then went to sleep. Any advice? Thank you and have a nice day everyone!

I've been getting cramps at night lately although I eat well, get enough magnesium, go on walks and do light exercise on regular basis, but it is due to pregnancy. Sometimes I have trouble sleeping because of that, but I what I always do (and what always helps) is I jump straight out of the bed, walk around a bit and it it stops. Another option that is very effective lie down then bend your ankle, if your left foot is the one that is being attack by leg cramp then bend your ankle and raise your right hand the furthest you can do in a split of second you will be reilved from pain hope this could help try it and take magnicium preferably Mega Food Magnicium and hydrate, Vice versa if the the foot bend your ankle raise your left hand if both legs then bend your snkled raise both your left and right hands the furthest you can do and bend your ankle just sharing my way of dealing with my noctural cramp that has been very very effective.

This works like magic! However, I often get severe cramping in other muscles, too. Major cramp 2 nights ago in my quad muscle. Took 10 agonizing minutes to get rid of it and was sore the next day. Need some help!!
