Huawei MateBook 14 Review: A Quality 14" Ultrabook … With Some Quirks
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 лис 2024
- Huawei's MateBook 14 features a simple, clean design with good quality audio and most of the same features as its big brother, the MateBook X Pro. However, some minor quirks, such as the lack of Thunderbolt 3 support, odd webcam placement, and a lower resolution display, could be turnoffs for some users.

So far, for my experience Huawei devices are pretty great and good value
unfortunately not for the 2019 X Pro though which is supposed to be $500 more... but it is hard to come across recent price information
Yup, I have had my Matebook X Pro (2018) for a year and a half with no problems (used almost daily in college)

I don't want any other smartphone since I first bought my Huawei p8. I changed it for Huawei p10 and now I'm using Huawei P30 Pro. Best fucking line ever.
Btw. That's also one of the main reasons Im looking for a Huawei ultrabook now😁
godless 789 HEY I need your help can these computers use google? Because I heard that goggled is banned from working with them. Thanks 🙏
I don't really get where this one sits compared to their laptop line, but so far, I'm really enjoying the Matebook X Pro. It's a solid device, it runs well, the screen is great... Kudos to Huawei!
And thanks for your reviews, again, they are great!
Why is it "strange"? Strange used many times during the review with no explanation or justification. 14inch laptop is ideal size for traveling/business travelers.
I think what he means is that the Matebook X Pro is already a 14" laptop (13.9" to be specific) and it doesn't make much sense to have another entire line of laptop called Matebook 14 with only slighg differences.
I know Im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a way to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the password. I love any assistance you can offer me
@Bo Marshall instablaster :)
U have my dream combo.
Mate20X + Matebook14
Where do you get all these cool wallpapers?? Looks amazing
Reddit
where to get the wallpaper on the laptop ?? 👀
Lotus design of huawei that would light up like the apple of Mac. That would actually be better.
Thanks for making my decision, gotta buy this soon
Does Someone knows the Release Date for Europe (Germany) ?
yeaah
Haven't seen it yet :(
Unfortunately not, I've been searching for some time now
@@mindfieldsmonkey1 i think in march it will released on teh german market
Can I get that wallpaper?
Got this in January and I can tell it's a very good laptop. The speed is great.
Very good review! Got a new subscriber ☺️
It's only touchscreen on the I7 model. Which is fine with me. Touchscreens on laptops are odd.
Yeah, it doesn't seem that usefull unless its a hybrid. I like the mousepad way better than touch anyways.
I wonder if Huawei is working on a 2 in 1 version, that would be sweet deal for me, 14inch roughly... even though they are trying to do their own thing, but the company is stealing a few nit bits of design here and there from Apple and Samsung, but i assume each company at the moment doesn't have their own identity. Generally i don't have an issue with this, it is a global company as to others.
Well, you're asking a 3:2 convertible. Probably not it a longtime pal. Pretty much you're stuck with the Surface Book 2 13" (which is expensive)
Close enough is a Yoga 930. Personally I would wait for Surface Book 3 (if it comes with Intel Ice Lake 10nm), though I'm not into an upgrade from SB2
@@blissrunner There are plenty of 3:2 Surface Pro clones though.
Hey Dan what are your top five favourite laptops until now? I'm very curious to know your favourite:)
Good question. Will probably save that for a video as I've been thinking about that topic recently.
Where would you buy this ?
Which is better Huawei matebook 14 or mateX?
Would this be ok for 4k video editing on Davinci resolve?
Did you guys do a review on the Matebook D?
Which is better matebook 14 or mateX Pro pls let me know I want to purchase
Brilliant video, so helpful. Thank you
I see you are a man of culture rocking that beast of Mate 20 X!
Has anyone got the huawei d14? I’m unsure whether it’s good for teaching
Can't find this Laptop for sale, only the 13" seems to be on sale in Scandinavia. Haven't found any information if it will come out either
In Italy it isn't available too
Is the finger print thing a button as well?
Matebook 14 best budget laptop with amazing features
I can have the matebook 15 R7 512go for 699€ (+ free huawei bluetooth ear buds). Worth it, or should I go for the Macbook air ?
I'm not z gamer or so, just do random stuff, watch video etc but I also want to start video editing
Huawei laptop just amazing
Does it open with one hand dhooooooo
@Windows Central does Huawei share really rely on the sticker being on there?
Sounds a bit...weird to me
Where can I get this? I don't see it for sale anywhere!

Am I do the only one who actually prefers the lotus over the current bland font?
I like both..
can you please share the wallpaper
yes i want to know too
Any news on UK release date or price?
Does it have a 360° screen opener?
Can we upgrade storage up to 1TB on this laptop
4th hello namaste!! From nepal Mr. Daniel
Hello, a piece of advice.. at the same price which version would you recommend between the one with Intel i5 102101 and Geforce Mx350 and the upcoming one with Amd Ryzen 5 4600H and rx Vegas 11? Thank you
If you like to play some games I would go with the one with the mx350, even if it's an entry level gpu it's still much better than any integrated graphic. If you're not interested in videogames go with the amd model.
In which countries can I buy it?
Are you able to upgrade the ram? Or ssd?
wallpaper please...
I don't find info about GDD for graphics, is it good for Adobe Premiere editing? Thank you!
meh. It will work but rather go for something that has a gtx graphics card
@@alecrosema4885 I actually got the Huawei in the meantime and I'm pretty happy with its performance. But thank you for your advice!
@@cc_namaste glad you’re enjoying it. I’m sure it does the job fine. A pc snob like myself would go for something more powerful for the money, but with the matebook you get other benefits like elegance and compactness so if it works that’s great.
Its quite thick when compared to the 13" and Matebook X
Thanks to the HDMI port
Huawei Share is not Apple-esque enough. AirDrop works without reliance on big ugly stickers (thank you for the tidbit about this feature not working if you remove the sticker - I might have made that mistake), and works from any iOS device or Mac to any other, with any type of media, all over the operating systems. It works with batches of photos, for example, sent from your friend’s phone to yours. It works with documents, no cloud sync required. It works with media files in a pinch. It does not try to build extra (confusing) functionality like recording the screen of your Mac remotely, since you can already do that with QuickTime built into MacOS. Also, Apple has other continuity features built in like Continuity Camera, which lets you snap a photo on your iPhone and stick it right in a file you’re already working on with your Mac.
lmao apple sucks
How much does it cost for small only
5:04 In the new refresh amd ryzen 4000 version, they built this huawei share into the plastic touchpad. So you dont have this ugly sticker there anymore which I find really really cool
Top 5 laptops for uni students?
Get Matebook 13 if you're looking for one.
Edson Leng Is matebook 13 screen big enough ?
Giuliano bardecio no it is not
What is your phone theme ?
All tech reviews looks the same trying to look like Mareques brownie except LTT, however I like the wide range of reviews
I think Lenovo Yoga C930 would still be a good choice over this from Huawei.
C930 has a lot of good going for it, just wish it had 3:2.
No whiskey lake CPU
You mentioned dual-fans Shark Fin 2.0 for the Matebook 14. Does the Matebook X Pro 2019 also support dual-fans?
The x pro 2019 just have one fan.
Matebook 13 i5 or X pro 2018 ?
Yes
Would this laptop be any good at running Premiere pro?
No
This or MateBook X Pro 2018?
I think Matebook X Pro. For one it has better track pad
wallpaper link pls?
Love your review bro.... from India
Is this touch screen.?
Could I have your review laptop after you are done with it? Just curious.
in china we don't have touch display for matebook 14 and we just have 8G memory
Why do they provide lesser quality for the Chinese market? Same with Lenovo. I live in China and was told by an IT expert Lenovo is poorer quality in China.
Do you hear a coil whine on the laptop when it is running under load?
You... You can't remove the sticker? That sucks.
It will void warranty if you remove it. So yeah that does suck
Andrew Nguyen It won‘t. I‘ve asked a huawei employee.
Any word on this coming to Australia?
Yea, I'd like to know aswell..
Why is it strange?
Very good video!!! 😎
Do you work in Microsoft
If not then in which company and which post please tell

if you are looking for an attractive and comfortable laptop to carry, with a bright screen and true-to-life colors, capable of running office and multimedia applications smoothly and offering respectable autonomy, the Huawei MateBook 14 AMD is a good option.
The best:
Attractive design and dimensions/weight that makes it easily transportable.
Large, comfortable to use keyboard and trackpad. Backlit keys.
LCD panel display with good maximum brightness (417 nits), excellent color fidelity, and a 3: 2 ratio ideal for working and surfing the Internet (not so much for watching movies).
Good performance for office applications, video playback, Internet browsing, and non-demanding games.
The quiet operation most of the time (although under high workload, the fans are audible and the laptop base becomes hot)
The fingerprint reader is integrated into the power button.
USB-A connectors to connect peripherals that do not yet use USB-C, and USB-C connector not only for data transfer but also for power supply.
Good quality sound even though the speakers are not visible.
Software to view the screen of a Huawei smartphone on the Windows desktop, transfer files by simply dragging and answering calls.
Respectable autonomy (lasts about 6-7 hours away from the charger) and fast charging (about 90 minutes).
Worst:
Screen with some light leaks at the edges that are noticeable in the dark. Color width not as high as other laptops.
Webcam located on a “sticky” key that captures the image from far below, so not ideal for video conferencing
Limited graphics power if you want to use your laptop for gaming or 3D tools
Limited expansion and configuration options

What about the backlight bleeding issue?
So glad I bought the matebook X instead of this
why?
I just bought a mate book d
Ports!!! Ports man.
False. Not dual fan. One large fan. Open it up and you'll see.

Huawei Spybook in Mistic Silver. Noice!

Backlight light
Very bad?
8th gen. core i7 processor boring, because every machine has them!!!!!??? My laptop still rocks core i3 (4th gen.)!!!!!
Huawei states the Brightness is 250 nits and reviews measured it just hits 240nits thats a huge Differenz
No thunderbolt 3 = no external gpu, no 4k 144hz monitors etc. Who does this in 2020? Btw, the new Matebook 14 also has these problems for god's sake.
Caaaaaaan't waaait 😫
this guy looks similar to SIr George Harrison
Huawei Matebook displays main complaints I keep reading is it's got very very bad colour accuracy.
Not true. My X Pro screen has great accuracy
Huawei not Wawei...
No proper Shift keys = No buy from me
@@zakkyh7443 Yeah. Razer does that with their laptops too now. I hate this trend.
There are shift keys?
This isn't a review, it's a comparison. Rather annoying
Cant they come up with their own design? The MateBook X looks exactly like apple’s and even its naming is a cop from MacBook its so pathetic they cant rise as a company without copying
thanks god no one talking political here. peace of mind here
huawei are doomed
THATS NOT MATEBOOK 14 ! .THMBNAIL . DISLIKE

Who wants to buy this lap when it is removed from the Microsoft Store forever, and even MS has "nothing to share" on its Windows update?
huawei sell shit matebook 14 in china buy the macbook pro the display good than huawei
Huawei HAS BACKDOORS IN THEIR HARDWARE!!
TheFantasic MrFox oh no whatever shall we do
And Apple has backdoors in ALL of their products they retail in the People's Republic of China!
PS Have you ever tried doing some research before spewing out complete & utter nonsense?!?!
SIDENOTE: it is standard procedure in the PCR(Mainland China) for the government to require software companies to allow backdoor access to their software for monitoring in the CHINESE MARKETPLACE over CHINESE CITIZENS & CHINESE BASED COMPANIES. This is why you would NOT want to import an iPhone meant for the Chinese marketplace(VPN blocking, GPS tracking & proactive monitoring)
Great, don't care!
I am really sick of this shameless counterfeiting of these big chinese companies. They really try hard to sell themselves as high class electronics companies, and look at this, this unbelievably reckless macbook wannabe.. This never happens with a japanese company.. Almost never.
btw that is some real expert fast talking speed, i saw the information running through air.
another spying device
lol, no one is taking advice from someone named "psychopath killer 4". Curious, did you kill the other 3 and feel no remorse?
@@WindowsCentral LOL DAMNNN
@@WindowsCentral but I don't have any number in my name it's just "psychopath killer" I'm scared now
@@pepela2219 okay 😑😤 let me try to explain this to you in the least wordy way I can! In Mainland China(PRC) there are requirements for software companies to allow backdoor access before retailing said devices and services in China. A PERFECT example is Apple. Apple may have a small market share in China but it is a massive source of revenue! Don't forget how populous China is! And Western brands being seen as status/fashion symbols(Ex Levi's) in China is a *thing*. Anyway where was I... Oh yeah! Apple does comply with the PRC's regulations for the Chinese market iPhone that have backdoors in iOS and special hardware for active GPS tracking by the Chinese government. Samsung has to do the same thing to their phones when they retail in China. This is why when a company accidentally ships a Chinese variant device outside China, it's a big deal! Such as the Nokia screw up in Europe.
