I'm in north Florida too. Leon county. I have not had much luck with tomatoes. Peppers yes, beans and peas are mediocre at best for me. But my soil is not amended properly I am sure.
All of my tomatoes are in the ground lol, and doing well. Cherokee purple is my favorite for sure, but I also have husky cherry red, better boy and early girl. I buried some fish 10 inches deep, then back filled the hole with 25 percent compost and 75 percent regular Florida dirt. They've been in for 5 weeks now, and are doing exceptional.
Im trying Cherokee purple and they are growing fast and strong. Another one Im trying is one called garden leader monster. I planted 7 varieties of seeds this year and the leader monster are growing so so fast and every seed came up. Not sure if its a heirloom but it is open pollinated. Supposed to grow up to 2 lb tomatoes. Im in FL and enjoy your channel as you are also. Will have to try those yellow ones in feb for the second crop. Thanks for the videos again. Got 25 plants in 7-15 gallon buckets and hoping for a great year!
Oh wow, so many varieties. I’ve gotten lucky replanting some cherry tomatoes I’ve bought from the store but these look fantastic, I love all of the color and properties that will help them thrive in Florida.
New to your channel…I’ve been on the SpaceCoast of Florida almost 20 years, just now trying my hand at tomatoes in containers…I’m originally from NC where tomatoes grow well…my favorite is Cherokee Purple…so I tried those Mortgage Lifer plus few “Tommy Toes” types….I got maybe 4 good tomatoes…the rest would split as soon as it began to ripen… Anyway….I’m just stating seeds to try growing a fall crop of tomatoes & trying to find tips that will help…I’ll search your channel to see if you offer a video on fall planting in Florida…❤
@@TheUrbanHarvest I was planning on it!! I'm trying to pick more edibles that I can throw in the ground. (Itching to get that Roselle going...) Do you have any tomato cages you recommend?
The ones I have in the video & would highly recommend are Burpee tomato cages! They are easier to fit around the tomatoes than the round ones, sturdy enough to hold them up, and fold flat when not in use (a little pricey but you get what you pay for). www.burpee.com/gardening-supplies/supports-ties-and-fences/pro-series-cage---silver-prod001240.html
Love the channel !! I have lived in Florida my entire life and gardening seems to get tougher every year. Thanks for sharing your success. I will be using your suggestions this season for sure. My last two season has been very poor with aphids and flooded conditions. I am a located in central fl , polk co. Were are you if you do not mind sharing. Garden looks great 👍
@@TheUrbanHarvest Yes mam ! I was checking out some of your videos and heard you say. You can really tell you are a teacher. Your personality shines in your videos and you are very good at explaining your process. Thank you again for sharing.
I am sorry for so many questions. Just need a help from a professional. Hard to find someone. And thank you for your help. So shade hose will do true the year?
Just trying everglades tomatoes this year and not having luck from seed in a raised garden bed....I’m going to try another soil combination and see what happens 🤞🤷🏻♀️
Thank you, maybe I can get it from you. Also I have a question, if I grow them in the green hoses, would I be able escape the heat and colds. Use the shades to control the sun. Thanks
I am new, i started growing vegetables this past Summer, my tomatoes have grown beautifully, however, i havent been able to eat one, because other animals have gotten to them before I did each time. They didnt really cared if they were green or riped, one by one they were chewed. Any ideas on what to do to keep them away?
Knowing which critter is eating them would help figure out the best solution. This video should be helpful though, ua-cam.com/video/IayCf64ZJQg/v-deo.html. Its a class I taught on pest management.
Nothing will protect them from everything! If you go with a climate controlled green house I suppose it would put you in a pretty good position but the expense would not be justified. And even then you will still have issues pop up. Part of gardening is learning to work with the environment and having a little grace if you don't harvest 100% of what you plant.
@@TheUrbanHarvest so let’s say I will go with a green house shades on top and climate control. Skip the summer, but the rest of the year should be fine. I am only trying to control the wether for now. I can alway shade the top. It’s just hard to get the info I need. I know I won’t be able to cover everything, just something I can get a control over. Thanks again. Huge help. Appreciate your time. Also, still want to get a plants for that tomato you said was the healthiest one. For the fall.
Ive got them for sale on my website, they are out of stock right now but I should have some more within a week or so. theurbanharvest.com/product/everglades-tomato/
Heirlooms can be tough to source as live plants. I had some for local pick up in fall but dont at this time. Your best bet would be to plan ahead and purchase seed to start with.
Its been a pain, I got a new phone and the first few videos I didn't have the appropriate adapter. All of them that I had recorded have been posted so it should be smooth sailing from here on out. sorry!
@@TheUrbanHarvest thanks i like your videos, i live and container garden in zone 9 have have alot of blight problems, early and late how do you treat blights and fungal problems, its hot and humid here, thank you
@@garythornbury9793 crop rotation is key! if your growing in containers change out the soil (you can compost the old stuff) and sanitize the pots. Look for varieties that have resistance (usually letters VFN) I like tropic for growing in Florida if you've been having trouble. Also if possible don't water the plants themselves - just water the soil which is ideally covered with mulch. Hope this helps!
Various sources. I have many on my website in the seed store but you can also source from southern exposure seed exchange, experimental farm network, baker creek, or johnny seeds.
We adjusted as much as possible but were having sound issues that we didnt realize until later. Most were able to hear if you cranked it up at the end. Sorry!
I can’t imagine putting this much effort into making a video and then not even bothering to watch it to make sure there is sound.. the sound cuts out a few minutes in.
Florida growers channels are so hard to find, thank you from a new subscriber. I’m in N FL 8b area.

A great video about my favorite veggie to eat! I appreciate the help you offer for dealing with the wacky Florida weather we have. Thank you!
Absolutely! Tomatoes are a garden staple, gotta have at least a few varieties planted.

I usually start my tomatoes in pots then transfer to the garden later.
Was very much enjoying what I was hearing till the volume went down to almost nothing. Anyway that could be fixed?

In florida a shade house not a green house is typically ideal. Greenhouses create heat and humidity something we have in abundance here in Fl : )
Where in FL are you? Thx, It is so hard to find a fellow FL grower!

Can u use back these seeds
