  • With Princess Cruising introducing a lot of new Speciality Dining options to Sun Princess, and revamping a couple of old favourites, our Sun Princess Speciality Dining Review, takes a look at what those $45 per person options are, and we let you know if we felt they were worth the $45 per person at each venue more than what your inclusive food options give.
    Sun Princess speciality dining venues include, Kai Sushi, Crown Grill, Sabatini's. The Butchers Block By Dario, Catch By Rudi, Umai Teppanyaki, Umai Shabu Shabu (Hot Pot), Spellbound & Love By Britto, as well as Alfredo's Pizzeria & O'Malley's Irish Pub ($14.99 if you don't have either of the Princess Plus or Premier packages)

    Did any of the speciality dining venues speak to you? Which would be top of our to do list?

    Thank you for helping me decide which restaurant to go to. We have a reservation at Crown Grill & you have me very tempted to go to Kai sushi instead of Sabatinis . 😊

      You are very welcome. Let us know how you get on with Kai Sushi if you decide to try it.

    We were at Sun Princess last week. We tried Sabatini and Umai Teppanyaki specialty dining. Personally I think Sabatini Italian absolutely worth it, top quality food with lots of selection. It has a 5 course meal with plenty of food. We were so full after the meal. If we had the similar meal in Toronto, it would cost about $80-100 Canadian. For the teppanyaki, it was just okay unless you want to see the chef making some funny jokes. Alfredo pizza was good too.

      Glad you enjoyed it Ray. Sabatini's is great, and the new venue is gorgeous. Did you manage to try the Hot Pot in Umai? That is one we really do want to give a go next time we are on Sun or Star.
      We always do the same with the speciality dining, and compare how much it would be in the "real world" because it is easy to say it is too expensive, when off a ship it would be double or treble the price.

      @@SuiteNatured We did not go to hotpot at Umai. I am an Asian and I have hotpot all the time in Toronto. There are so many good hotpot restaurants here, food selection, quality and value seemed better than Umai.

    I was on Sun Princess last week and it is a fabulous ship. We were disappointed in Sabatini's and were appalled at the cartoonish presentation and mediocre food at the Butcher Block by Dario. The best food, by far, was the Signature restaurant. The Reserve was next best.

      Thank you Gina, you absolutely should try Sun Princess when you get chance, it is such a step up for them and we can't wait to get back on a Sphere class ship again soon.

    I just booked Sun Princess for August, 2025. Barcelona to Rome! Your videos got me thinking about it, and the fantastic balcony price settled it for us!
    Now to find a hotel in Rome for 3-4 extra nights.

      You are going to have an amazing time Tim, even more so if you got a great balcony price too :)
      And 3-4 nights in Rome will be a perfect end to the cruise too, we had such a lovely night there this time, and the food tour we did one night was fantastic.

      Should try Sabatini, absolutely worth it. We stayed at Hotel Delle Nazioni in Rome. It’s a nice small hotel just next to Trevi Fountain, so convenient. You would also ask the hotel to arrange the hotel transfer from Port for you. It’s $180 Euro.

      They do not give you nearly enough time in Gibraltar. If you plan on going to the top of the rock don't take the cable car, the line is horrendous. Take a guided van tour.

    Price not withstanding, how does Eden on Celebrity Edge class compare to these venues? (It was your memorable review that convinced us to book Eden, coming up in a few weeks on Apex)

    • @SuiteNatured
      @SuiteNatured  3 місяці тому

      Hi Tim. Great question. Eden is a different class. We suspect Love By Britto ($149 per person) will be closer to that in food execution. Spellbound is at that level for the cocktails but the food menu (wasn't open when we went) was nowhere near and still $149 per.person. You will love Eden we are sure.

    Feels like Princess are making every effort to encourage people to upgrade to Premier, Sabatini's $10 more on Sun than on the rest of the fleet, new ship premium or the shape of things to come? From what we've seen so far, considering the upcharge, some of the speciality restaurants look like the buffet rather than high class venues (a bit like Beach House on Iona/Arvia).

    • @SuiteNatured
      @SuiteNatured  3 місяці тому +1

      We'd agree, they absolutely want people to take the packages, for sure, I don't think they are bothered if it is plus or premier, but they do want you to go "all-inclusive". We've seen Celebrity go down this same path in recent years too. The uplift in speciality pricing seems in line with what Celebrity did on their Edge class ones too, whether we then see an uplift on the rest of the fleet or whether it is just the sphere class we shall see.
      The two speciality dining, Catch By Rudi, and Butcher's Block By Dario, are both in an area that is used as an extension to the Eatery during breakfast and lunch, but in the evening, it seemed to work. Similar to what Cunard do with their pop up speciality dining on QM2.
      We didn't get chance to eat in Catch by Rudi but by all accounts it is very good, so probably a level about Beach House, but as you said, similar type setting.

    Hi. Have booked in Nov on Sun Princess and not that interested in the specialty dining. We have the plus package and being Irish the last place we want to go to is an Irish pub ( no pub in Ireland is like any of them lol) so it will be the main dining for us or just the buffet as we are not foodies

    • @SuiteNatured
      @SuiteNatured  3 місяці тому

      With having the plus package David, you get two visits to either O'Malleys or Alfredo's, and we would really recommend Alfredos for a lunch a couple of times during your cruise, and it won't cost you a penny more.

      @@SuiteNatured. My mate am going with is a cruise ship virgin and like most Ulstermen we are quite plain food lovers so many of the extra dining venues will probably be superfluous to us, plus neither of us want to set foot in an Irish bar so we might in between the fiddly music go for a burger there as my mate loves Guinness so be the best place to get it

    • @SuiteNatured
      @SuiteNatured  3 місяці тому

      The food in there looked great David, and it's absolutely the best place for a pint on the ship

    Ho utterly fabulous. I dont think I would be tempted by the first one ( well, clearly I wont, as I cant even remember the name! The all meat and no veg one haha ) Dean doesn't eat red meat anyway, so would be no good for him. Teppanyaki I just love anyway, so that would be a definite, and the shabby could be rather tempting too. I haven't enjoyed the last Sabbatinis or the last Crown grill, so kind of put us off - but Im quite tempted to give it another try on Sun Princess. And I totally agree, the Black n Blue just has to be done in Crown Grill - but when I hear lobster Bisque also - that put me in a little quandary lol. The sushi restaurant is my fave , I have to say, and I will be there at least once if we are lucky enough o sail on Sun Princess.
    Thanks as always for allowing us to see and almost experience whats on offer Linzi and mark. I always love your videos/vlogs and always come away better informed

      Thanks Terry. Dean would definitely not get good value from Darios, as it is pretty much Red Meat (and one potatoe). LOL
      It will be worth you retrying Sabatini's & Crown Grill when you get on a Sphere class ship, but the one you 100% will have to do will be the Spellbound Dinner, Cocktails & Show. Love By Britto will probably be worth doing too, on top of Teppanyaki. Wow, that's a lot of speciality dining now we've said that.
      Hope you, Dean and Sir Spencer are all well.

    Oooh err - that was a lot of meat 😂
    All look worth a visit but the cost of specialty does seem to be getting very expensive- no surprise i suppose but it certainly adds up.

      For some reason Frankie Howard sprang to mind as we read your comment 🤣
      They are getting expensive, but we at least felt they were good value for that expense on Sun Princess.
