Hey guys,
today I will show you how to fix the disk write error that you are getting while
downloading and installing the update from Steam.
This error is pretty easy to fix so without further ado let's get into it.
First, we are going to search for Steam in the Windows menu and select Open file location.
Then you are going to click on Compatibility tab and select Run this program as an
administrator, click Apply and then OK.
Now open the Steam app and when click on Continue when Steam error box appears. Once you have
done this, this could already fix the disk write error you are getting.
Second fix, go to the top left corner, select Steam, click on Settings and select Storage.
Then click on the triple dots on the right and select Repair folder. This should take
about 1-2 minutes to resolve and afterwards it's going to ask you to restart Steam.
Click OK.
Last but not least, a third fix, go to the top left corner again, select Steam,
click on Settings and select Downloads on the right side of the window. Then select
Clear download cacge and hit OK.
This should nearly 100 % solve the issue you are having. If not, comment down below and

Unlikely a hardware issue, usually a software issue, like 99.9%.

I’ve tried all these methods, and it has not worked for me. Please help me. I’ve cleared cache, repaired library files in storage, verified file integrity, run as administrator, disable read only in properties, restarted and cleaned out pc and unplugged and replugged wires. I am not sure what else I can do

Doesnt work. Also only happens if i tried to download halo reach on mcc, and i tried download battlefield/halo 3 worked fine. Weird but i think it has to do on installation corruption?

I tried everything in the video and it's still not working. I keep getting very slow verification on all games, and the issue goes away if I download on another drive. Problem is, I can't move games to another drive when they need an update and they won't update on their current drive.
Best case in this scenario is to uninstall the games, it shouldn't take too long to reinstall. And when you reinstall choose the wanted drive.

i was downloading maple story, but at like 60-80% it just stops and pauses completly and none of the steps worked. Is there any other ways to fix a disk write error?
Yes, try deleting usedata folder.
So:
1) Win + R (a small window wil popup)
2) type %ProgramFiles(x86)% and hit Enter
3) Explorer opens up, find Steam folder.
4) find usedata folder and delete it!

Nothing worked for me still a disk drive error, and the crazy thing is I was able to double early today any solution to my problem
Yes, this is the error a lot of people are having issue with. It doesn't seem to work for everyone because the issue is to broad and there could be multiple sources of issue.
followed all the steps isnt working for me just got my starfield key and am excited to play it tomorrow but disappointed im not able to download it any other advice is my ssd broke???

No, your SSD is fine. The disk write error is Steam specific error. It only occurs on Steam. It means that Steam downloader was not able to download/update the game successfully. By any chance have you tried deleting userdata folder in Steam folder (usually in Program Files (x86))?
Try opening properties for Steam, go in permissions, set full control for all accounts, change settings for all users, run as administrator and boom restart Steam and it'll work!

It did not work for me, im updating a game called farlight 84 but it keeps saying disk write error despite following the steps you showed
This game specifically inteferes with anti virus system from Windows. You need to disable it to complete the downlod and then turn anti virus back on.
You can also try:
Press Windows key + R
Then type: %ProgramFiles(x86)% and find Steam>steamapps. In this folder find 0 KB files in size and delete them. Shut down steam and restart. Shut it down via Task manager. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and select Task manager. Look for Steam (32-bit) and right click End task.
Am i gonna have the same problem if I do not install it using steam, but by installing it on another website?
@@constaaaaa748 No, disk write error is Steam specific error. Steam games like the one you can download from Steam have special files that can cause this. From another website, this would not be a problem.

It seems we had a similar problem tho i've just this second fixed it so ill mention everything i done personally
1)Reboot
2)Verify Integrity of game cache
3) Updated my Graphics Drivers
4) Turned off my antivirus
5) Changed Download location from UK Manchester to Ireland (or anywhere close to your country)
(I dont know which one of theses solved the issue or if it took multiple but thats everything i done that helped get it working now)

Yo my drive uninstalled all my games and I tried doing what you did cause it gave me disk write error when I tried putting the games into that drive but it did not work so can you make a way on how to fix it

hey, I've tried all the steps you're showing. But my steam still can't download a new game. It keep stops downloading and showing same issue "DISK WRITE ERROR"
I have a couple of suggestions:
1) Task manager (right click on Steam 32-bit -> End task), then press Win+R and type: %ProgramFiles(x86)%. This opens Program Files(x86). Go to Steam. Right click userdata (in this file is cached info and garbage data) and delete. Restart Steam.
2) Verify integrity of game files. Library-> right click on that game -> Properties -> Local files or Updated files -> Verify integrity of game files.
Let me know if that helped by any chance.

Maybe try to install/uninstalling Steam but leave the game files. Its a Steam specific error after all.

I got disk write error on my brand new seagate external hard drive. USB 3.0.
Clearing the cache did not fox the problem for me

Hmm, maybe try deleting "userdata" folder in Steam folder. Or disabling Windows firewall if error occurs when you start downloading. Other than that trying to Clear library folder instead of repairing might work.

Yes, this video is for this problem. However, it can happen that it won't help you. There are just many ways of how to fix it listed.

"browse folder
repair library
rename library"
You can only repair folder (disk in this case) if you have games on that disk. If not, there is no such option.
If you have games,try repairing the other folder first.

I've tried all your methods and it didn't work. I've also made sure that the external HD it's writing to can't be put to sleep. I'm not sure what else i need to do to store games on my external hard drive but it's making me crazy. The only other thing i can think of is if the hard drive itself has some kind of write protection enabled on it. I've run steam as admin (compatibility admin mode) so i'm not sure what the issue is

Sorry I couldn't help. The error could be literally caused by anything. It is extremely undescriptive as to what Disk write error really is. I am on the lookout for new things, I will let you know if I manage to find anything.
@@Guide4Ever no worries i got it fixed. It wasn't a steam issue at all, where i decided to use an external hard drive i had to go into bios and turn off the "power off usb" setting so that the hard drive wouldn't power down or sleep.

Have you tried uninstalling the game completely?
Also, you can go Steam -> Settings -> Downloads and then change location of download server. That is usually what helped me. Choose a random one at first to see if anything changes.
Verifying integrity of game files if you already have the game installed is another option.

Alright. Ive done everything you have recommended for me. The game I've been struggling with is 2k23. I was playing it fine just last night, and now that I wanted to play it tonight, it isn't working. I've tried everything, I dont know what to do. I have more than enough storage on my hard drive for it, so I dont know what the problem could be.
You can go to Program Files (x86) -> Steam -> userdata and delete userdata folder. In userdata you have all the configs for games, like preset resolutions, keybinds, anything that deviates from the default settings. Deleting this often helps because some files and code in there might be corrupt.
Another thing, although perhaps too obvious, did you try to uninstall the game and reinstall it and repair the library folder afterwards?
Steam -> Settings -> Storage -> select the disk (C: or D:) -> three dots -> Repair folder
Also, one more question. Does this occur only with that game or any other as well?
@@Guide4Ever it’s the only game recently that tried updating itself. I also deleted user data and did the repair and if still didn’t work

When downloading Apex Legends on Steam, my antivirus software said that a file has malware innit and when it's in 98%, the Disk Write Error popped
bro funny enough i disabled the antivirus and it worked 🤣
