  • This is the oldest audience recording as far as I know of Todd's career. Todd's opening up for Jeff Beck at the Orpheum Theater in Boston, Mass. May 18th 1972 a couple months after "Something/Anything?" was released. This was Todd's first tour since the Nazz besides doing some radio shows for "Ballad" and one show with RUNT that was so bad they never did another one. From what I understand the band consisted of Tom Cosgrove on guitar and vocals, Stu Woods on Bass, The Hello people with Norman Smart on the Drums, Zack "Head" Lang and Larry Tasse on Key's, Gregg Geddes on horns,. and Bobby Sedita on Harmony vocals. Jeff Beck's sound crew pulled the plug on Todd cutting his show short, I believe he was given 45 minutes but only played 35. Not sure if Todd pissed off the crew because of complaining about the lighting and technical issues but apparently the PA showed up late so they had no soundcheck and because of that Todd's set was cut short I remastered the show by Adjusting the speed as it played too slow, EQ'd and put through an exciter to add high frequencies that have been lost from age so it sounds better than what is out there now.

I was at this show. Before the show I went to the foot of the stage with my Runt album. I wanted Todd to autograph it but I had no pen, He took the album and came back 5 minutes later with it autographed! What a guy.

I believe this is the show where Beck pulled the plug ending his set and he and Todd went at it.

Yeah, he either played too long or pissed off the crew by complaining throughout the set lol..

Yes! And I delivered a birthday cake to a friend in the audience and folks sang happy birthday while the roadies fought onstage. 😂

Interesting "Hello It's Me" was in the set... and this was over a year and a half before it became a hit. He must've known the potential.

Believe it or not Todd didnt want it released as a single lol. It took a DJ in Cincinnati at wkrq to convince Paul Fishkin and Bearsville it would be a hit. He played it and got lots of requests for it so from the power of radio it became a hit. Thats why the single didnt come out until 1973. If that wouldnt have happened who knows what would have become of Todds career

@@mojorisen74 I know, right? He acts so ungrateful about it, but he wouldn't have achieved as massive of an audience without it. I recently read the 1973 interview where he was like "Yeah, Bearsville told me they were gonna put out Hello It's Me. I told them I didn't want to hear about it".
Even the first proper tour he did at the time when he was opening for Utopia with the tapes... you have to wonder if he could've gotten the same audience if he didn't have such a huge hit at the time.

@@neosquid9609 thankfully hello its me was released as a single because the single before that "couldnt i just tell you" tanked. I saw the light would have been the only hit

@@mojorisen74 A bit unrelated, but moving onto AWATS, I believe if they stripped "La La Means I Love You" from the medley it could've been a hit... I guess try JOV after that and then give up on the album lol. It's interesting to think how high Izzat Love would've risen had he allowed it to be released.

@@mojorisen74 well, you're not exactly right on your story, but it's not really worth the argument/discussion. suffice it to say that we (bearsville) knew the potential of Hello, It's Me and we had every intention of releasing it as a single, and we enlisted the aid of a programmer (Bill Todd) in Cincinnati who helped us achieve our goal

I have been to see Todd 17 times throughout the years. I quit about 6-7 years ago because the quality of the experience never gets better. Bad equipment, stopping in the middle of the song only to start over or just phoning it in. Some people find this endearing. Not me. This is a great example

This is a 1972 recording. Lower your expectations on sound quality just a bit. Lucky to have it as a historical piece. BTW, Todd doesn't phone it in, the concept was just lost on you.

After 27 Todd concerts I agree on the uneven performances. Some days when he has little to say or little passion for the gig his “Devils may care but I don’t mind” ‘tude def comes across. That said can only could three shows he didn’t come across as genuine on, but yes those 3 shows abysmal to the point of my wife asking me “You actually like this guy?” and yeah, 97% of the time I deeply do love Todd the knucklehead.
