This remix is better imo. The part from beginning to around 0:40 is the best part. The faint choir of male vocals sounding almost gregorian just straight up gives me goosebumps. And the transition or "drop" at around 0:35 ish is just legendary. Double up on goosebumps.

I don't know the secret, dozens of Villains have come and gone, hundreds of heroes have come and gone, all the quests and the expansions, yet something about Arthas makes him different than all of them.
What is it? I don't know..
He was the hero at one point. He wasn't just a villain, but a character. We watched as Frostmourne corrupted him, and the lore surrounding him felt meaningful.
Because he WAS Warcraft.
Now its all just dumb shit to make money somehow.
I feel and ask myself the same thing. And i think that it is more than about a game. I think that blizzard nailed some powerfull human archetype. Just like harry potter or luke skywalker arthas was destined for good. He is the choosen one from the Conrad's monomyth. Just like gilgamesh, potter, luke skywalker , frodo or ciri and many others. He is destined for great things. But when the trial comes he chooses power instead of good of his values. Tragic thing is that he chooses power and pays it seems little price, with the intention to do greater good. But after that there is no greater good. Only power. And his story is so moving i think because he is a warning for all of us. Fallen hero. Another similar one is Anakin skywalker/ darth vader. Yup ... i can listen now:)
Because we were with him in Warcraft 3, we saw what happened to his people from his viewpoint, we knew that Stratholme was necessary, we saw how Uther and Jaina abandoned him. We were there when he took Frostmourne, we saw him fall and then become the Lich King. We knew that his soul was already gone, taken by Frostmourne, we were there through it all, and at the end, at the very end, when Arthas regains his soul after Frostmourne is broken and the spirits released, we see how broken he was, and the true price that he paid for the power to protect his people, his weary soul was finally free. That's why I believe Arthas is such a beloved character, never a true Hero, never a true Villain, just a kid who wanted to save his people no matter the cost, and the cost was too great to justify anything.
Because he's relatable and human, just like jaina and illidan

2024 and still crying to this song. man I'd do anything to go back to 2008 so every afternoon after school the only thing I'd have to do is play wow with my brother and sister. I still play, they stopped playing years ago. this game was a huge connection between us and I miss it every damn day

At least vader somewhat redeemed himself saving luke in ep6. Arthas was denied his chance by a vengeful uther (who realised his mistake afterwards) in shadowlands. Would have loved an arthas redemption arc😢
Vader had free will, Arthas did not.
Imagine if they made a film series focused on Arthas and retained this as his main character theme, altho of course conducted by a different movie-soundtrack guy like the one who did the first WarCraft movie.

Bigballslol is right, when a game is turned into a movie or series, It MOSTLY turns into trash. like mortal combat, Doom etc. Even though I personally liked the Warcraft movie, I can understand why people didn't like it. Most of the lore was changed, the characters wasn't how they should be etc. Maybe if we let the Warcraft series stay as games, and let Arthas, the very magic and memories we have of them be what they are till this day. no lore changes, no story changes, just Warcraft.
btw the guy who composed the music for the Warcraft movie is Ramin Djawadi (game of thrones, Pacific rim)
Yeah agree with this one about the film series, but if Blizzard make a game about like, warcraft 3 campain about Arthas but with the technology of nowadays, it would be just awesome

It hurts my ears listening to this piece now six years later. The bitrate is so incredibly low... at least for the first minute. I'll probably remake it sometime during the next six months.
Please also give me ideas for doing something similar with other game soundtracks. I've thought about perhaps mixing a few calm Mass effect soundtracks together or at least removing the reaper sounds in "leaving earth".

I love World of Warcraft. I really do.... It's so wonderfully done. Even thought it's been outclassed by other games I never had so much love and fun. Nowadays, you would always say "I hate this game", but for WOW , I never ever had the feeling. The old days where I would play with my cousin and we were noobs wandering around Azeroth. I just wish I can relive those moments..... I still remember my first Lich King raid kill. I just love this game, but sadly I don't have time as school is taking most of my time. Well enjoy the game while you can adventurers, we'll meet again heroes.

Man, I’m picturing a scene of Varian grabbing the helm of domination at the end of shadowlands and sacrificing himself to save Aundiun from Arthas as he becomes the new Lich King. That would have been so much cooler
Here's my theory .
Arthas was in full control the whole time , he new that without a lich king the scourge would sweep over the land , he kept jaimas locket and tiring says it was the last part of arthas inside the lich king that stopped the scourge . Arthas might not of been a villain but a hero .
I disagree due to several aspects with this, but mainly because of what Arthas said in the Wc3 expansion: "I've damned everyone and everything I've ever loved in his name, and I still feel no remorse. No shame. No pity."
He had control over his own actions. And while in control he doomed his own kingdom. But he was at the same time brainwashed to just not care. He became more and more ruthless until he crossed a threshold of no return. And I think he lusted for personal power at the same time. He might've taken Frostmourne for more reasons than just "the end justifies the means"
Come to think of it: You know how Frostmourne is designed to claim souls when killing? Mal'Ganis explained how Arthas' soul was the very first it claimed
Sorry but you're wrong. Arthas LOST his soul the moment he draw Frostmoure, making him the first victim. Although he doesn't knew until he killed the Dreadlord he want to defeat.
