@@mineyguy his deck was changed by "The Fires of Zin-Azshari" to minions that cost 5 or more, then it set those cards to 5 mana. So Blackthorn could summon any 3 deathrattle minions in his deck

Oh man, right after Pirate Quest got nerfed, I decided to try yoinking the quest and some of the substandard pirates out in favor of Blacksmithing Hammer and Azsharan Trident and got a surprising number of wins off of outrageously large hammers because I'd traded them so many times. Turns out a 5/3 weapon is pretty dang good no matter how much it costs, and I could regularly get it larger - 5/3 is just the breakpoint for the deck where it potentially is large enough to win the game.
That being said, I don't think it's viable in Standard, but I definitely intend to take another look at weapon warrior in Wild soon with those two weapons, because the Sunken Trident is a surprisingly good board clear.

it's worth noting that if you play Faceless onto Nellie you will get a 5/5 and a 2/6 ship but the ship won't have any pirates as "crew" because it is the battlecry that fills the ship

It always surprises me that charge overrides rush. If I’m correct, charge is a keyword that says: “this card can attack the turn it is played”, whereas rush is a word that says “this card an attack the turn it is played, but not the enemy hero.”
It’s not like keywords overwrite one another either. As in if something with wind fury gains divine shield, it doesn’t lose wind fury. So with that logic, the card has both rush and charge and since charge doesn’t say “can attack enemy heroes specifically” wouldn’t the stipulations of rush still apply?
You are mistaken. Rush says „can attack minions immediately“ and charge says „can attack immediately“. Charge does not „override“ rush it simply makes it redundant
Rush doesn't stipulate that attacking heroes is impossible, otherwise the minion would be unable to attack heroes after the first turn.
Put charge on something like the 12/12 abyssal "Cannot attack heroes" and you'll see it still can't attack heroes. Charge doesn't grant explicit permission to attack heroes, nor does rush give explicit denial from attacking heroes. Rush just allows the attacking of minons, while charge allows the attacking of both.
