    The only trouble with telling us all how quickly you're collecting data means we're all gonna be expecting more videos !! Seriously what a piece of kit Luke and the image at the end for just 3 hours is exceptional. I think the rasa is going to be incredible for creating content.......brilliant video mate 👌

    My wife and I have been using the RASA 8 for a bit over a year, and love it, as you do. It gives fantastic results and unless there's a major temp change, it stays in focus through most of our imaging sessions. The focuser itself works so smoothly that we don't bother with an autofocuser.
    We're envious of your new roll-off observatory! Keep up the good work.

    Incredible Luke! a) I'm amazed you've got the RASA absolutely singing this early on, I've always thought of RASA's as a work in progress scope like RC's but those stars are simply beautiful edge to edge at f/2!! lol Mind blowing! b) this is with a planetary EAA cam! and c) You must have been imaging close to the summer equinox, as you said it pretty much doesn't get dark. I know you say come chill out but it's a bit too exciting to chill :D Oh ZWO have released the same sensor ASI 585mc so I can pick one of those bad boys up at some point. Well done mate, that's one high res image at the end, which again I didn't quite expect and nor did you by the sounds of it lol

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Chris!! - Hope you are well matey! :-D
      I was really pleased with how easy the RASA was to use, literally 30 minutes or so messing with camera tilt (could have gone faster, but I wanted to take it easy and really understand what I was doing) and after that I was flying! amazingly stable :-)
      I love the 585 for sure and think you'll have a whale of a time with one! I'd love to see what it can do with a bigger sensor sometime though, that would be a LOT of fun I bet, all this speed with a big sensor would be nuts!
      You got the timeline pretty close for sure haha! - this was shot about 10 days before equinox I think! :-D
      As always buddy, thanks for coming and watching - I appreciate it!

      @@lukomatico I have been fortunate to not need to mess with tilt yet... The RASA is really a breeze to get up and running with quickly. I am one of those lucky people who had even less trouble with my RC.. it just worked great out of the box... but RASA is definitely easier long term

    What a beautifully produced video. It’s quite evident the time and artful attention you’ve been putting into your videos (aside from the ongoing great content). It’s simply a pleasure sitting back and enjoying your productions. I’d be interested in a bit of discussion about you saying you don’t have true darkness (only astronomical twilight), I never thought about this. It’s one more thing I’ve learned from you and your many videos-always something new and interesting. Always a treat!

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  2 роки тому

      Hey Joe! - I'm really happy to hear the extra effort on the videos is showing, that's brilliant mate :-)
      RE: No darkness, It's an interesting time of year for us, for about 2 months we don't see a true night sky, just astronomical twilight instead (which is what follows nautical twilight, which is what follows civil twilight!) - the sun never truly sets in this situation, it goes below the horizon but not far enough below to put the skies above me in the earth's shadow, thus the atmosphere is illuminated still by sunlight. - a cool side effect of this location and situation is that we get to see incredible cloud formations sometimes, in the absolute upper atmosphere called noctilucent clouds, tiny sparkling ice crystals around 50 miles up!- honestly magical to see.
      I hope that helps explain it a bit more mate! As always, thank you for watching!!

    Superb image Luke, got some lovely depth and loving the deep rich colour pallet you used. I too cannot wait for the darker skies to return but still out capturing photons every clear moment there is. Pixinsight can stack the image as you take the subs so may be able to replicate the sharpcap feature you are missing. I know Logan uses it and its something I am about to set up myself now I have my obsy all linked to a network. Clear skies mate

    • @billblanshan3021
      @billblanshan3021 2 роки тому +3

      Luke, if you don't want to use the PI stacking plugin, you can still image in NINA and view a live stack in SharpCap. After your first NINA sub has saved, open SharpCap, select Camera option from the top menu, choose Folder Monitor Camera, a window pops up for you to select where your NINA data is being saved. Select the fits file and your done. next, select Live stack and and click play. Boom, your viewing your NINA data in a real time live stack and once a new sub comes in, SharpCap will automatically load the data and live stack it for you. hope that helps! Bill

    Great first light on the RASA. Yes, those stars are pinpoints from edge to edge, top to bottom. Have you tried using the "Flats Wizard" in NINA yet? Makes it soooo much easier (once you get the settings correct). Oh, can you see the pelican bird yet in the view?

    Great video... I have an 11" RASA.. I love it, my number one challenge is stupid and its just keeping the star shapes in check. I have done it with spikes, and with a cable router... I need a more permanent solution... maybe a smaller camera i don;t know yet... that is my only real complaint after using it nonstop for a year is my star quality is always lacking... I finally packaged it up for a bit and switched to my slowww 10" RC and I am just loving the crisp stars.

    Congrats Luke, nice new scope and obs to go with it (or is it the other way around?). Mate, I know you are new to NINA but have a look at Patriot Astro youtube Chanel as 3:40mins is way too long. You have far too many focusing steps which is taking up your imaging time. Chad has some excellent workflows for improving your focus

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the heads up Simon! and good eye too! - RE: the steps, there's a reason in my case - I did a fair bit of playing around with the focus settings in NINA for my RASA, I think my particular celestron focus motor benefits from more focus measurement points as sometimes I get erroneous movements (even with a big overshoot backlash correction), which if I had fewer data points making up the v-curve would occasionally lead to the curve fitting being significantly thrown off - the more measure points I have the more robust the data pool is for curve fitting though, so it generally ignores the bad points :-)
      I've considered taking the ZWO EAF off my 250pds and fitting it to the RASA instead as it seems to have far less backlash, so would give better curves again I guess!
      I'll definitely give Chad's videos a watch sometime, he's a great guy from all I've seen!

    How do you compare the Player One vs ZWO?

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  2 роки тому

      Hey there! :-)
      I really do like Player One's equipment and I'm not paid by anyone to say that :-) it's solidly built and extremely well thought out and designed - seemingly small differences like the built-in tilt adapter can come in SO handy too!
      I don't have the ZWO equivalent camera to test so I can't speak with complete certainty, but I'd guess that the image quality between the two would be practically identical as they share the same sensor tech, - the ZWO has the ability to work with ASIAIR which is nice if you use it, but alternatively the Player One has an inbuilt heat sink, sensor tilt adapter, 256mb DDR frame buffer, "DPS" dead-pixel suppression and a really lovely fit & finish! :-) I'm VERY happy with mine!
      I hope that helps mate!
