Great video! I've recently put a UV light in for my RP when I upgraded the viv, surprised to see she seems to enjoy it! Regularly see basking during the day
That's awesome!
I love your videos. Its great to have such a strong resource for royal python care. There isnt enough high quality content in the "new age husbandry" narritive and a technologically modern view at that. So much info we need to sift thru, thank you for contributing to the conversation and being so inclusive of all knowledge and skill levels.
Thanks! I currently have a Corn Snake and I’m planning on getting a Ball Python! Thanks for your help!
You’re welcome ☺️
Love the video!
I brought my RP from Ash at EOTW in October and l put her straight into a 5ft. Ngl i’ve had abit of trouble trying to get the right gradient, but i’ve finally managed to get it how i want it. I’ve had a 4ft enclosure before for my leopard gecko, and i found it a lot easier to manage the temperature lol. Thankyou!
Thats awesome its probably you im talking about in this video!
I keep African Rock Pythons, which is like RP's just on a much larger scale. I find studying the native climatic conditions valuable. It doesn't of course take into account specific details inside the wider picture. For example in November to about mid March time, West Africa gets hit by trade winds blowing from the North East to the Gulf of Guinea. That is called "The Harmattan". I think the affects of that would be interesting to look at in relation to this. Obviously a beginner doesn't need to worry about this, just think it be interesting for more advanced keepers.
I lived in Ghana for a year and the Harmattan makes the air a bit drier.
This is fantastic Liam! Lots of easy general information and options for folks to just start off all the way up to an advanced keeper. How many ball pythons are in that 23 foot zoo exhibit? Do you know if they are both female or different genders? I know that one ball python that lived to be 48 was part of a zoo exhibit where it was kept with another animal. Also, that those ball pythons almost always preferred hides up above the ground.
There are 4 animals in that tank!
@@ReptilesandResearch WOW!!! You know I do wonder how social they are in the wild? Ball pythons definitely always seem aware of one another if you just have them as pets in a home and they make an effort to seek each other out and are curious about one another, it would interesting to know what gender these are and how much they interact?
I have never heard of people keeping them together, great that it works.
@@teijaflink2226 The reason they discourage people from keeping them together in captivity, is to properly do that, you need a properly sized enclosure. To be frank, it cuts into sales if you actually tell people they need a 4 foot enclosure minimum, the current marketing is to say they are "low maintenance" pets and can be kept in tiny boxes, so you make more sales. None of that is actually humane or proper husbandry.
Great summary of good quality care.
Glad you liked it!
What enclosure would you recommend for them in the UK?
I really want a ball python, im currently researching and trying to convince my mom. Im committed to owning one and being responsible for them, but i do have a question, are the morphs different from a normal one like do all morphs have health issues
Not all but a good few
@@ReptilesandResearch sorry i meant like do they have health problems like more than a normal one
planning on getting a heat lamp tomorow..if I'm correct a 100watt bulb ? .my enclosure is 40 x18x18
..
Id buy a 50w, 75w and then a 100w so i can find the goldilocks zone and then have the others to swap in and out in different seasons
@@ReptilesandResearch thank you such.akes sense different seasons different wattage 👍🐍
Reptifiles care guide suggests a basking surface temp up to 104f, what are your thoughts on this?
Mine does get to that on some days and she still sits in the basking spot, i let it happen but its not what im aiming for. I feel like they get their business done at 30-40C either way i guess.
Thanks for this reply, mine also will bask at these surface temps, she has various basking temp zones for her to choose from so I'm rolling with it.
Hello! I love your channel and your videos are excellent! I have a few questions that I would be obliged to you if you could help this new owner out.
I bought an adult ball python last June from the exotic pet store as a rescue, as its owner could no longer care for it. The snake is just over 4 feet long, 1300 grams, and is the friendliest snake I have ever seen. The vet says it’s in excellent condition but since they don’t probe, there is no way to be certain of its sex. Would you say it’s an adult female due to the size? I don’t think males get this big, do they? My main question is how often I should feed because I get conflicting opinions from the exotic pet store. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I just got my ball python 4 days ago and she hasn’t basked once, is it to early and she’s still getting comfortable or is it something else?
4 days to them is like 4 minutes to us, if they arent used to having overhead lighting, they may take weeks or even months to get used to it.
Can I use a Deep Heat Projector for overnight heating?
You can but it’s nowhere near as good as a heat bulb
Hey dude.
Had a thought.
I really like your channel.
You get right into the details.
Might I respectfully suggest a little more species diversity.
This would help you reach a much wider audience.
Your focus seems to be understandably primarily on the species you keep.
Beardies, Royals and Mexican black kings.
It seems to me, you don't need to keep it in order to make videos about it.
This would also broaden your horizons in terms of guests you can bring on the show.👍
Why would you want advice about a species, from someone who doesn't keep that species? At that point, they're just regurgitating things they've read/heard, with no working knowledge as to whether it's true. That is all information you could already get from whatever source he would use, rather than having it be parroted to you.
@@TheCharleseye Not the case.
Liam is not just regurgitating things.
He knows how to research properly.
He has on guests with a wealth of knowledge.
He might interview a zoo keeper for example.
Or a keeper of whatever species.
Then grill them like he does.
I myself am a bit dyslexic.
I can read very well but I actually learn better from a video and I am not the only one.
I would rather watch the movie than read the book
@@Lizardliker There are plenty of videos on UA-cam from people who actually keep various reptiles. You're allowed to watch more than one.
@@TheCharleseye Quite right.
I do have my favorites.
Some are better than others.
To be honest I am subscribed to so many.
I have been struggling this year.
Ignore a lot of my notifications.
Not losing interest in the animals.
That's never going to happen.
I probably get 6-8 notifications a day from various reptile channels.
And like you said, a lot of them are regurgitating the same thing.
So I have been sticking more to my favorites, ignoring a lot of it.
I do like Liam and R&R, he's asking the right questions.
He made some top notch stuff last year.
Always brings the 🔥.
